Has anybody been watching the football?

MayBee70 Sun 18-Dec-22 17:19:47

I want England to have gone out to the World Champions so Iโ€™m behind France.

lixy Sun 18-Dec-22 17:09:53

Goodness, holding my breath! I'm in Brighton for now so shouting for Argentina because of Macallister (who plays for the Seagulls here)
Please don't let it go to penalties.

Joseanne Sun 18-Dec-22 17:04:56

Crazy! Thrilling this 2nd half.
Time to get a G & T.

Callistemon21 Sun 18-Dec-22 17:01:57

At least Croatia won the play-offs ๐Ÿ™‚

This isn't good for the blood pressure. A rubbish start ftom les Bleus, now unbelievably 2 - 2.

Quite a game. Eight minutes to go at 2 - 2.

Well ...
This is not going as well as hoped.

I was going to open a bottle of wine tonight but realised it was Argentinian Malbec so put it back on the rack.
It's making no difference. ๐Ÿ˜•

Callistemon21 Mon 12-Dec-22 18:17:27

I shall be ๐Ÿคž for Croatia!

Fleurpepper Mon 12-Dec-22 17:39:26

Maybe, I shall be behind Morroco all the way. A concern however, as riots took place in Belgium when Morocco beat them- and there is so much anti North African racism in France.

Callistemon21 Mon 12-Dec-22 17:32:39

Croatia reached the final in 2018 and lost to France

Shall we see another Croatia -v- France final?

Fleurpepper Mon 12-Dec-22 17:26:19

much more so for countries like Croatia and Morocco! Take my hat to them.

MayBee70 Mon 12-Dec-22 17:23:07

Only 8 countries have ever won the world cup ( I would imagine itโ€™s been dominated by South American teams). So I canโ€™t imagine what the odds are against a team winning it. To get to the quarter finals is a great achievement.

NotTooOld Mon 12-Dec-22 16:27:23

Gareth Southgate is still deciding if he should resign or not.

Fleurpepper Mon 12-Dec-22 16:19:36

Of course, but it should be a choice. Thanks.

Geography?
Liverpool is a different country.

I think my reference to 3-0 might give a clue โšฝ๏ธ

Oh yes, Glasgow, I forgot.

Or was it Pitlochry? It doesn't matter- it would be irrelevant, wrong or rude to mention it. Unless YOU chose to. Simple enough, no?

I seem to have mixed you up with another poster who told us where she lived and it sounded really interesting.

Apologies.

I don't mind at all you asking me which country I live in smile

What, because we're disagreeing with some of your statements?

I don't know anyone bordering on depression because their team lost.
The quote I made was one of Bill Shankly, not my own.

No your constant reference to geography. What is it like today in Liverpool?

Quite a few threads mention geographical location - Mickโ€™s GM thread, for one. Sometimes is is germane to what is being posted, sometimes it helps to give a fuller picture. Does anybody have a problem with that?
Itโ€™s not as if anybody is worried their anonymity is being compromised - look at Urmstongran, for instance!

๐Ÿ‘‹ everyone from Urmston.
Iโ€™m hiding in plain sight amongst 41,000 people who live in this town.

Remind me, who was it beat Scotland 3-0 in the World Cup?๐Ÿ‡ป๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ผ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ผ?

But why make such a big deal of something nobody else gives a second thought to? It only draws attention to it.
As I said, anonymity is not compromised and a poster may have interesting things to say about their location.

Of course. But it should be a choice. I have told NO-ONE here of my location. Only one, by pm, who outed me and promised to keep stumm.

It is irrelevant, it is irrelevant, wrong and rude.

Callistemon, huge riots in Belgium due to the Morocco win! Racism has reared its very ugly head there. And if they win, the French will go mental too, for the same historical and racist reasons.

Callistemon21 Mon 12-Dec-22 11:26:42

As said, for some, football following just becomes too much, too serious, too everything, too far, too much

Well, I've thought about that because there used to be terrible fights between fans years ago ๐Ÿคž hopefully not as much now.

It's rivalry and better than wars.

๐Ÿ˜ Nice one!

I'll ask

Fleurpepper Mon 12-Dec-22 11:00:58

It should be a personal choice, surely. I have told NO-ONE here where I am, only in one pm to someonw who said she would keep stumm! Do not see why or how relevant it is that a few insist of mentionning someone's alleged ??? location, on more or less every post. It is a) irrelevant b) wrong c) rude ... and more.
