I was pleased for South Africa. The country’s in a bit of a state, so it’s nice for them to have something to celebrate.

Aveline

Well my SA son in law is very happy at the result although it was only a win by a squeak. He was in NY on holiday and wore his SA rugby strip and soon found other fans too. They congregated in a sports bar. Atmosphere electric.
I tried to watch a bit but it just seemed like a series of fights with huge men collapsing on other huge men. Gave up watching. Too puzzling.

It wasn't the best game I've ever watched and more as you describe it, Aveline

The first NZ try was disallowed for some reason (the rules are beyond my comprehension!) which was a pity.

Nail-biting again!
I have really enjoyed these last few weeks, all the more so when I had no particular loyalty to either side and could just enjoy the game.

Aveline

My South African son in law was in tears of sheer joy (and probably relief too). I'm very happy for him but find it hard to understand the depth of feeling around a game.

Oh Aveline !
And I always took you for an Edinburger!

Rugby was so much better before TMO.

The referee made a decision and that was it.

Callistemon21 Sun 22-Oct-23 11:31:35

I don't know what's going on half the time, it's a mystery, but it was quite exciting!

It pains me (as a Scot!) to say that England deserved to win. The Springboks gave away so many points through penalties that their indiscipline was nearly their undoing. I'm sure the All Blacks will have taken note of that and will be quick to exploit it.

That was an amazing match last night,England did so well leading until the last 10 minutes. I was hoping that Owen Farrell might get a drop kick at the last minute but not to be . Had to have a Baileys to settle my nerves throughout the game !!

England out - pipped at the post by South Africa. ☹

Come on New Zealand! 🇳🇿

Callistemon21 Sat 14-Oct-23 22:21:43

😲

I'll check them out.

I just looked at Bundee Aki and said "he looks like a New Zealander!!"

Jaxjacky Sat 14-Oct-23 22:16:20

Three of the Irish team are from NZ Callistemon sadly it didn’t help tonight, the last ten minutes were fraught, had to get my cushion out!
Allez Angleterre!

RosiesMaw Sat 14-Oct-23 22:05:07

Absolutely edge of the seat stuff! But sorry to see Ireland out, likewise Wales who were playing so much better than recently.
Ah well, tomorrow will tell us whether all 4 home nations go home.

Callistemon21 Sat 14-Oct-23 21:56:00

Wales is out ☹

New Zealand is through, beating Ireland.

One of the Ireland players looked like a New Zealander - and in fact was born there but now plays for Ireland.

Well!
Not a record score but quite astonishing.

Jaxjacky Fri 29-Sept-23 21:41:38

I’m just amazed with the speed, a well oiled machine, I think NZ v England in the quarters, assuming we beat Samoa, I know what assume can do!

Callistemon21 Fri 29-Sept-23 21:00:20

Foxygloves

I’m not.

They've won two out of two so far but never beaten New Zealand in 36 years.

Foxygloves Fri 29-Sept-23 20:54:23

I’m not.

Jaxjacky Fri 29-Sept-23 20:53:49

I’m surprised too, Italy are just overwhelmed.

Callistemon21 Fri 29-Sept-23 20:51:59

At this stage I'm surprised that it is such a walkover!

Although Wales v Australia was similar (not to be mentioned in our family 😲)

Jaxjacky Fri 29-Sept-23 20:37:02

NZ are walking it, literally in the case of that try from the line out!

Callistemon21 Fri 29-Sept-23 20:06:59

Great try!!

ronib Sat 09-Sept-23 06:38:29

I am not looking forward to watching England play today against Argentina - it’s going to be painful.
Thought the France NZ game had a lot of kicking and fast. What a great start for France .
