Tennis presenters

I’m enjoying the tennis very much - Queens, Eastbourne and from Monday , Wimbledon.
BUT the presenters speaking before the matches talk so quickly and go on and on , hardly drawing breath. Annabelle Croft , a pleasant woman , is especially annoying . She was the same on ‘Strictly’ .Poor Johannes couldn’t get a word in.

I didn't think Annabelle Croft was a very good presenter at Wimbledon last year. The best presenters are those who ask interesting questions and keep quiet during the reply.

I'm okay with Annabelle Croft, but blessed Andrew Castle really spoils the men's tennis for me, I seem to be unable to 'tune him out', he talks such rubbish, I can't bear his commentary.

Yes, they also talk too much during and in between matches .
Let’s just watch the tennis, please.!

Still miss Dan Maskell

Just mute the sound!

I loathe John Inverdale and Andrew Castle as presenters. Their attitude was awful. I wasn't a fan of Virginia Wade either because of her voice. I,too, miss Dan Maskell.

Dan Maskell

A peach of a lob ...
A dream of a backhand pass ...

John McEnroe is the worst. He never stops talking.

We have such a lot of quite useless commentators here in Ontario who cover all the tennis tournaments that lead up to the Wimbledon fortnight. Without exception they seem to have this desire to yak on and on with nonsensical rubbish without taking a break or coming up for air! Where do they find these people? Just because they may have made some headway playing on the professional tennis circuit doesn’t mean they are versed in the art of being a good commentator - in fact it’s the reverse! I much prefer to just watch the game and hear the spectators response to a great shot, but if I do turn the sound right down I also miss that addictive sound of when the ball hits the racquet strings!

Absolutely agree with you. He drives me up the wall. Wouldn't be so bad if he was just commentating but he goes off at a tangent - e.g. wondering what the player is going to have for his dinner!!

Just mute the sound!

But then you miss the sound of ball hitting racket and the umpire giving the score.

I always imagine how driven up the wall I'd feel if I was sitting in front of them at a match. I would be giving them a Very Hard Stare Indeed with maybe a few deep sighs and tuts if I was really upset. Seriously, they are dreadful, especially if they go off at a tangent, as they so often do.

Anniebach Sat 29-Jun-24 20:42:06

Why do they think they have to keep yapping on

I love Johnny Mac’s commentary. I think he’s as truthful as he can be, and gives a fair assessment of the players. The British male commentators praise to the high heavens and then have to retract their opinions when the British players inevitably loose.

It makes me laugh when the British commentators tell the far more success players that another shot choice would be better or another way of doing it would be more successful. As if they had ever done anything of note. At least JM was a success.
