A platform for news, views and comments this Wimbledon fortnight.

Andy - how far will he get?
Who will be the most annoying presenter(s)?
Any Brits to look out for?
Anyone here going?

And not forgetting Lucca, who loved the game and the ChampionshipđŸŒ».

Whethertomorrow

No British player left now. It’s so embarrassing.

Emma is still in
.. at the moment.

Rekarie Sun 07-Jul-24 19:39:59

I'm wanting Sun to win.

Good to see Emma's wrist and leg have improved though.

LauraNorderr Sun 07-Jul-24 19:50:20

Gosh Lulu Sun deserved that win, what a player.
Poor Emma

merlotgran Sun 07-Jul-24 19:52:03

Hard Luck, Emma but Sun played a great game.

nanaK54 Sun 07-Jul-24 19:55:24

Poor Emma

Yes she did, I agree Lulu played a wonderful game.

Sparklefizz Sun 07-Jul-24 20:39:01

Yes, Lulu deserved to win.

Sparklefizz Sun 07-Jul-24 20:41:09

Welcome IceScream. As you're a Federer fan, have you wanted his farewell documentary on Amazon Prime?

Sparklefizz Sun 07-Jul-24 20:43:20

^A difficult decision not to play in the mixed doubles, but the correct one, IMHO.
Not helped by the comments of Murray mĂšre.^

Emma should never have accepted Murray's invitation in the first place, then he could have offered it to someone else and had a final game of mixed doubles, instead of which the rules forbade him asking a substitute when she changed her mind at the last minute.

Oh that’s interesting Sparklefizz, I didn’t know that and wondered why he didn’t ask someone else.
Emma Navarro is playing well!

DamaskRose Sun 07-Jul-24 21:26:32

And it’s all over for Gauff, but well done Emma Navarro.

Callistemon213 Sun 07-Jul-24 21:41:40

Well done Lulu. I felt quite tearful watching her interview.

I feel sorry for Emma, having problems with her joints at such a young age, it must be very difficult to cope with when you are an athlete aiming to be the very best you can be.

Bellasnana

Hello IceScream. Am I the only one not particularly excited by women’s tennis? I’m watching Dimitrov v Medvedev now.

I prefer the men’s game as well. Really sorry that Dimitrov was injured so early in the game with Medvedev. It’s been a terrific tournament so far.

J52 Sun 07-Jul-24 22:00:55

An exciting afternoon and evening of matches. I feel sorry for Emma, but from the start she didn’t seem to be on top form.

LauraNorderr Mon 08-Jul-24 16:12:13

Musetti, cor, phew, am I allowed to say eye candy

Whethertomorrow Mon 08-Jul-24 16:33:11

I’m watching the zverev and Fritz match and the miserable and critical commentators are absolutely abysmal.

John Lloyd I think and Andrew Castle are bemoaning the boring match. They are saying how the shots are boring and mundane, not like all the different shots used by Djokovic, federer etc.

They are such drains and are not projecting any excitement or enthusiasm at all. I feel really gloomy now.

Is anyone else watching?

IceScream Mon 08-Jul-24 16:48:33

I’m switching between the men’s and the women’s matches right now. Ashamed to say I was hoping for some drama given it’s Penko vs Poots, but Penko is really dominating.

Zverev v Fritz (almost typed “Swuft” by accident) is more competitive.

Sparklefizz, I haven’t watched the Fed doc on Prime yet; waiting for the right moment. I did enjoy the one about Andy’s comeback; it improved my opinion of him immensely.

IceScream Mon 08-Jul-24 16:49:02

“Swift” obviously!

IceScream Mon 08-Jul-24 16:50:56

Wow me and my commentators curse—Poots has just broken. Nice that the game ended with a hopeless Penko challenge.

IceScream Mon 08-Jul-24 16:52:24

I always appreciate the commentators who add to the match, pointing out strategy etc. I have learned a lot from some of them.

PamelaJ1 Mon 08-Jul-24 16:52:35

Am watching when I can and enjoying it.
I hope no one else has asked this but - Why are the players and interviewers so far apart after the games? Are they still following Covid rules?

IceScream Mon 08-Jul-24 16:57:56

I wondered about that, too.

Bellasnana Mon 08-Jul-24 16:59:36

I’m watching Zverev Fritz too. It’s not that exciting really and I do wish Fritz would get a set to make it more of a match.

On a side note, my DD2 is practice manager of an oral surgeon’s practice in South Florida and John Lloyd was one of her patients last month. She said he was really pleasant, very polite and amusing.

Millie22 Mon 08-Jul-24 17:05:38

I'm watching the Taylor Fritz match and like you Bellasnana I do wish he would play a few different shots.

Labradora Mon 08-Jul-24 17:21:14

Another Wimbledon fan here.
Watching a great many of them- so many of them are so good!
Alcaraz, Sinner, Rune, Zverev, Medvedev, Djocovic (still a contender) and supporting, as well, all the Brits of course.
Andy Murray's send off was lovely and well deserved.
I love McEnroe as a commentator although I hated the shenannigins when he was playing. No strong feelings about the other commentators. My OH likes Annabelle Croft who he refers to as "the lovely Annabelle". Difficult to dislike her.......
