A platform for news, views and comments this Wimbledon fortnight.

Andy - how far will he get?
Who will be the most annoying presenter(s)?
Any Brits to look out for?
Anyone here going?

And not forgetting Lucca, who loved the game and the Championship🌻.

I’m watching Sinner v Shelton. Very exciting match.

ixion Sun 07-Jul-24 17:52:18

I do wonder whether something is playing on her mind ...

Grandmadinosaur Sun 07-Jul-24 17:40:31

That’s what went through my mind 🤣

merlotgran Sun 07-Jul-24 17:39:14

Judy Murray’s put a hex on her. šŸ˜‚

ixion Sun 07-Jul-24 17:36:30

Emma?
😳

merlotgran Sun 07-Jul-24 17:10:32

WTF??

merlotgran Sun 07-Jul-24 16:52:23

Good Luck, Emma šŸ¤ž

Echo your comments re ER and Djokovic ixion.
That’s so interesting about the iron lungs in the 50s/60s. I don’t remember that.
Glad Carlos got through in the end, great match.
So sad for Keys, but I was behind Paolina if I’m honest.
Lovely to see Ash Barty, she was one of my favourite players.

ixion Sun 07-Jul-24 16:42:28

I hope that there is no negativity towards Emma Radacanu when she comes on. A difficult decision not to play in the mixed doubles, but the correct one, IMHO.
Not helped by the comments of Murray mĆØre.

I don't think Djokovic is as invincible as he once was. Makes watching all the more interesting.

Does anyone remember, must be the late 1950s, early 1960s, the presence on the side line of a couple of audience members in mechanical ventilators (^iron lungs^). I remember my mother explaining what they were.

So sad to see Keys go out ggg he e way she did.
If she hadn’t had the injury I’m sure it would have been a terrific end to a super match.
Watching Paolini play was a breath of fresh air.
Have never seen Humbert play before but wow, what a game this is.

I’m getting nervous.

Just seen about Keys that’s a shame but I do like Paolini.

Come on Alcaraz you need to win this set šŸ¤ž

It’s been played on Sunday since 2022. According to Professor Google.

Oh, must keep up at the back 😃

Shez1955 Sun 07-Jul-24 15:42:43

Sad for Keys but like Jasmine although she has some dips playing. I’m backing Coco!

Bellasnana Sun 07-Jul-24 15:13:33

I’m thoroughly enjoying watching Alcaraz v Humbert. Very entertaining so far!

Didn’t realise Wimbledon on today. Excuse to put feet up. Alcaraz on now. Radacanu later.

It never used to be on on the middle Sunday, perhaps they need to catch up on because of the rain.

I think Andy Murray would have understood Emma Raducanu’s decision, both professional sports people, not to mention (Judy Murray, I’m looking at you) adults. I like Sinner but I’m hoping Alcaraz will win. Oh, and that somebody will beat Djokovic in five sets. So sorry to see Ons Jabeur go out. Rod Laver there today.
Apologies to whoever said that no tennis fan she knew liked Andrew Castle. Wimbledon is the highlight of my year and I actually don’t mind him. He’s the light relief in the commentary box, telling us about the slebs etc. Nick Kyrgious is the one who irritates me with his babbling on, over play, about nights out and his bad behaviour, I for one don’t need reminding. 🤬

Nannylovesshopping Sun 07-Jul-24 11:40:46

Tbh I just want Djokovic to be beaten by a fabulous player, a Brit would be the icing on the cake!

Grandmadinosaur Sun 07-Jul-24 10:17:42

I hold my hands up I wasn’t Andy Murray’s biggest fan at first. He won me over showing his emotions over the years.
I can’t see Djokovic ever doing that. I can’t wait for his retirement.

Djokovic has won the tie break, he’s through.

An amazing player, but spoils it by being a dick, what’s with the violin out etc., no wonder he is never the crowds favourite!

It did look as if he was taking the Mickey out of his opponent but perhaps thst wasn't what he meant.
Strange.
I am warming to him a bit, he is more gracious now in interviews.

Remember Andy Murray at first? Ungracious, made himself unpopular south of the Border with some of his remarks. Now he's a National Treasure!

Yes just saw his interview.
