I didn't know either!
Is there a toiletry you can no longer buy and miss?
Is it significant these days?
Nowadays it's an event that gets swamped by accusations of cheating by using performance enhancing cocktails of drugs, before it even starts.
Then there's the usual crop of disqualifications and careers tarnished forever, but then there's a lot to aim for if an athlete gets the gold. Product endorsement worth millions, sponsorship and lucrative contracts galore. The temptation to do ANYTHING to shave a split second off a performance is tremendous. The days of Ancient Greece when athletes sought to excel in the pursuit of integrity and a laurel wreath have gone.
(Will we ever see the 100 metres sprint done in 1 second - there must come a point when the human body just cannot surpass its own capabilities.)
I didn't know either!

I like random information. It was on our local Devon news last night that we have sent a team of gorgeous spaniel sniffer dogs to Paris to support the French police. Apparently, after The Olympics the dogs are being invited to the Embassy in Paris for a slap up dinner!! And maybe even a slurp of champagne. 🥂
Do you that wonderful news clip of Macrons dog (black lab) calmly “marking” the corner of a no doubt priceless antique marble fireplace in the Elysée www.google.com/url?q=https://m.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DANjhZTQQASM&sa=U&sqi=2&ved=2ahUKEwjsztf6hL2HAxUrQkEAHdxXAScQwqsBegQIGBAF&usg=AOvVaw3Fr4NXSGXTMIMjkKIAe7Yx
(Puts dogs in cafes in the shade)
Hilarious though!
🐕 Naughty boy! Funny. 😆
"Il n'a jamais fait ça." Yeh, right.
You ‘ave ter larf doncha? 🤣
Oh no, just seen this - Charlotte Dujardin has pulled out of the Olympics over 'an error of judgement' in coaching methods?
I saw this too Missinterpreted how sad and very disappointing for all her fans.
I was trying to find a link to the video of what she's supposedly done, but can't find anything. It's very sad - and it's also a bit sad that whoever had the video waited until now to release it.
It’s not sad, she clearly maltreated a horse. Would you prefer it to be covered up ?
My ex sister in. law in Germany is a very passionate horsewoman and has usually 4-6 horses that she owns told me dressage is a cruel sport. The training methods are harsh.
It’s why I never watch it anymore . P
OMG that is dreadful news but I'm afraid I don't have any sympathy with any training method that is detrimental to the horse. Horse sport needs to be absolutely transparent about it's training methods but it's a shame that whoever it was waited four years (if that's accurate) surely if they had the welfare of the horse at heart they would have reported the matter straight away. tbh I think that's probably our chance of a medal gone, although Becky is a lovely rider and Jagerbomb is a super horse I doubt they will produce the sort of score that CD-J would have managed.
This is why animals should not be in the Olympics. You know that some of them will be mistreated, especially those that don’t make the grade.
Dressage has always been cruel. Very sad for all horses. I'm pleased that this has been exposed. It certainly isn't a one off.
I'm not a fan of cancel culture as a rule but I'd be pleased to see dressage cancelled.

I’m always suspicious of broadcasters that say it’s easy to cancel the subscription!
When you sign up to any streaming service give it a couple of days and then cancel. Keep a copy of your cancellation confirmation.
You will still get the free month.

Have you seen the clip? I'm just asking as I couldn't find a link to it. I do find it sad that one of our greatest Olympians has been accused of something like this - and an 'error of judgement' could mean many things. I'm in no way defending any kind of cruel treatment to animals, but those who say dressage is, in itself, cruel, clearly have never done it themselves. It is perfectly possible to train a horse without resorting to cruel measures.

Dressage isn't a cruel sport but there are people in every horse discipline who do not always put the welfare of the horse before their ambition. Most riders find that unacceptable and tbh I'm surprised that CDJ has let herself down like this. I've watched her ride at comps on many occasions, she trains with Carl and I know he wouldn't approve of anything untoward taking place. What I don't understand is why anyone would wait for four years, it should have been reported immediately.
I can guarantee that my SIL DOES know she used to do dressage herself . You can’t possibly believe that all countries in the world have the same ethics when it comes to training . I don’t watch anything that has animals for entertainment for that reason .
‘What happened was completely out of character and does not reflect how I train my horses or coach my pupils, however there is no excuse," she said in statement’.
But is it mistreatment of a horse or something she did coaching her pupils?Eg losing her temper??
It was to do with a horse , Maybee70
There has been a lot of dissatisfaction and complaints about how horses are treated in dressage. After all, it's a very unnatural movement.
Loads of info online

This is what I was wondering too - until anyone has seen the clip of what actually happened, we can't say for sure.
The video was submitted directly to the FEI who are investigating.
Beating her horse repeatedly on the legs apparently. Horrible woman.
Dressage is one of the oldest equestrian discipline isn’t it. Developed to train horses to go into battle?

There's no way anyone who loves horses would condone anything like that. I'm still curious as to why someone has waited until now to report it, rather than doing so at the time.
I'm not really known as an animal lover but to be cruel to one makes my blood boil.
The fact that it was 4 years ago is neither here nor there. It wasn’t right then and it isn’t right now.
