Just that really. All things related to the 16 day event.

I'm intrigued as to why Germany is so far down the medals list in 13th position. Behind even Italy and The Netherlands. They actuallh have 100 more contestants in The Games than we have. I always remember Germany as being pretty impressive and successful in the past?
For a country which is very strong in football, what's going wrong in athletics etc?

DamaskRose Fri 02-Aug-24 15:12:58

I’m not enjoying the coverage so just off to find Discovery+. But I’m enjoying so many sports “Im not interested in”! Loving the archery, BMX, mountain biking, so every cloud …

Did anyone watch the BMX yesterday. How on earth do they do that!

My 93 year old Dad told me he'd been watching people flying on a bike.
I knew exactly what he meant!

GB are up in third now, maddy. smile

maddyone Fri 02-Aug-24 13:49:15

GB has 24 medals. Fourth in the world after China, USA, and France. Well done to all our athletes 🏆🏆🏆

Maggiemaybe Fri 02-Aug-24 13:42:43

Bryony Page’s trampolining gold really made me smile. As did the information that her degree dissertation was on sounds made by dinosaurs.

Anniebach Fri 02-Aug-24 09:03:28

Agree

Maggiemaybe Fri 02-Aug-24 08:44:16

I’m hoping this will still be a place to discuss sporting achievements at the games, as there’s another thread devoted just to the issue of the two boxers.

I’m really looking forward to the athletics getting going today. We were in the London stadium on the opening day of the 2012 athletics so it’ll bring back some memories.

The IBA is just one of the boxing authorities and does not agree with the others. This has been a long running controversy, trans boxers were allowed in the previous Olympics. Some of the boxers are in fact “intersex” others do meet the Olympic testing standards, it’s not fair on biological women and should be changed, it won’t be this year.

I suppose we shouldn't be surprised when the Dutch team have Steven van de Velde, convicted of raping a 12 year old British girl in 2016 at the games.

According to a senior official with the Dutch Olympic committee he isn't a paedophile!!! That's OK then angry.

Smileless2012 Thu 01-Aug-24 12:06:35

Men boxing with women!!! angry it's a bloody disgrace and I wish the women would refuse and the audience boo and walk out in disgust.

I understand these women have waited 4 years to compete in these Olympics, but how can they possible compete?

I follow Sharon Davies she is extremely vociferous about this and men in women’s sport in general.

These are her words

“The IOC are negligent in their duty of care to female boxers. Knowingly putting males with a huge advantage in the ring with females. These males have been tested & banned by two boxing federation for having XY chromosomes. It’s beyond belief but nothing the IOC does fails to disappoint me these days”

Did anyone watch the BMX yesterday. How on earth do they do that!

I am amazed at how unfit they look!

Maggiemaybe Thu 01-Aug-24 11:49:21

Are they? I hadn’t realised. If this is correct I’ll join you in being furious, GrannyGravy.

Callistemon213 Thu 01-Aug-24 11:48:46

😮

The organisers need to be put in the ring with one of these men.

MayBee70 Thu 01-Aug-24 11:48:13

I thought the show jumping would be on this morning.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 01-Aug-24 11:45:22

I am more than furious that men who are identifying as women are competing in the female boxing category at these Olympics.

Poor Angels Carini (Italian) decided not to continue with her match against Imane Khelfi.

I'm finding it all a bit disjointed, i was watching tennis and it suddenly went to rugby and I couldn't find the tennis! I suppose so much is going on, they are trying to show a bit of everything. There doesn't seem much on BBC 2 either

It's all over the place.
You can be watching a nail biting tie break in the tennis then it disappears.

Then turn on later and have a feeling of déjà vu with swimming or gymnastics only to realise it's the second or third time you've watched it.

The coverage is not good.

I have never seen it performed until yesterday, had no idea

Come to this thread a bit late, I love the Olympics. The women's rowing gold was good, also love watching Adam Peaty get silver.

I still prefer next week watching the athletics. My partner and I really enjoy it. We want two nations to win team GB and Jamaica.
