Just that really. All things related to the 16 day event.

If only it really were Edith singing.. that would be lovely.

Wow!
My gob is well and truly smacked! And the Piaf song always makes me well up, if this is the finale it is stunning at last 🎈

It's beautiful.

Well done Celine

Exactly this Maw. 🥲

But Celine was ok.

Sobbing now- Céline Dion- the crème de la crème!

merlotgran Fri 26-Jul-24 22:30:02

Well done Celine Dion. What a finish!

Pity about the rest of it. 😂

Well thanks all this thread has entertained me tonight 👏👏

Enfin!
I’ve a sore bum and sore eyes and I’m off to bed. Very well done finale though.

Going to go and watch some paint dry, much more enjoyable. Although the Marguerite Monnot Hymne a l'Amour is lovely I'm afraid the balloon is definitely not doing it for me. A washout, in more ways than one.

Michael Johnson trying to be positive!

Ah, I had a lump in my throat while Celine sang. She has such tremendous talent, and has been suffering with illness. She said she would crawl on stage if she had to!

Wonderful. An someone above mentioned it was an older song; which is why it sounded familiar to me. My parents played French records, so perhaps it was in my memory bank.

Regroup at 08.00 tomorrow for the keener viewers.

Off to claim my Award for Endurance 🥇.

I might not surface by 8 !

Callistemon213 Fri 26-Jul-24 22:37:54

I feel a bit guilty now; so much work went into this. However, it was disjointed.

However, it was more showcasing Paris than anything. A mistake not to hold it in the stadium.

Shame about the weather, it didn't just put a dampener on it, it drenched it.

Well that’s 4 hours of my life I will never get back!

I think it was written (and sung) by the wonderful Edith Piaf CanadianGran - Hymne à l'amour.

It has been sung by others, in English too, but Celine Dion made it sound magnificent again.

I woke up thinking about that poor piano.

Yes, apologies.

Good morning everybody!
Here’s Matt.

I’m off to read reviews of last night’s performance in the newspapers!

Bridie22 Sat 27-Jul-24 07:52:19

Shame about the weather, but it didn't seem to dampen spirits.
It was spectacular, although dragged on a bit to long, Lady GaGa didn't impress, but Celine was excellent, so pleased to see her perform so well after battles with ill health.

Grandmabatty Sat 27-Jul-24 07:57:56

Celine Dion was fabulous and what a return! I'm afraid I wasn't keen on much of the show. I suspect it didn't show to advantage on screen and was better in real life. I liked the idea of Paris being involved, loved the combination of the boats, then the Louvre, fashion etc. And the pop up pictures in the Seine. But the whole thing was unwieldy and too long, so I lost interest. I'm looking forward to seeing some sports later
