Should breakdancing be in the Olympics?

As someone said, breakdancing is not a sport, but neither is synchronised swimming or dancing horses.

Why not?

How about ballroom dancing?

Darts is a skilful sport. Why isn’t that included?

Synchronised swimming is as much a sport as gymnastics. Try a few of the simpler moves next time you're in a pool. It's rather more than waving your arms around while smiling (I've heard it described as this).

Getting a line of washing in as it starts to rain, without dropping any of it or the pegs.
Now that one I COULD compete in smile

I ve given up there are so many categories now that I don’t consider sport
I agree I don’t think rhythmic gymnastics or synchronised swimming or equestrian dancing or shooting are sports I would probably half what I consider sports in modern Olympics
I ve lost interest in so many catergories

Yeah, I can't see why not.

I imagine its not because of its association with pubs and drinking alcohol ?

Perhaps it totally depends of your definition of “sport” ?

I think there’s no reason to not include anything which requires skill and some physical exertion and is competitive

I remember seeing some impromptu street breakdancing in the US and was completely wowed by it and what it included, back flips and a certain amount of athleticism. Mesmerising!.

Skateboarding is also a category now, I love extreme sports, my kids were very into all that in their teen years. There were several trips to A&E but it gave them hours of outdoor entertainment. A wonderful young girl, Skye Brown, she's only mid teens won the Bronze in Skateboarding. I'm all for some of these new categories it reflects a resonance in how younger people immerse themselves in less traditional but nevertheless very physical activities which requires considerable co-ordination.

I'm not interested in watching breakdancing myself but if including it as an Olympic category encourages more young people to show interest/learn it/take part, then it can only be good. Ditto skate boarding, BMX biking, etc.
