Me too shockshock

I confess I didn’t see any of it. I watched repeats of Last Tango In Halifax, The Real Crown and some of Vienna Blood, but went to bed before it finished as tired.

So have just viewed a few highlights.

Think I made the best decision with a few repeats.

I don’t understand Billy Eilish’s popularity. I find her very dreary.

Yeah, I think you've got to be experiencing that teenage angst or apathy, depending on your mood! But she is a good singer.

Well as far as the negative comments go in regards to the Star Spangled Banner goes it was brilliant ! The whole handover to the USA was brilliant and the LA music was spot on. Sadly here there is a bunch of grumpy curmudgeon comments that didn’t see the creativity behind the ceremonies.
Which is sad. Back to your stale biscuits and soapy tea,

Some people are clearly easily pleased.
A National Anthem such as The Star Spangled Banner is meant to stir, to rouse, to celebrate. Not to slip and slide around the notes before reluctantly settling on or near the right one - in the way of a type of popular warbling.
If the (original) Marseillaise had been sung at the pace of last nights subfusc version, les enfants de la patrie would still have been allons-ing and le jour de gloire woukd have been over and gone.
When a French Maman says “Allons, enfants” she usually means “Come on, hurry up”.
You could see why.

Maybe we just have higher expectations because we didn’t set ourselves a low bar in 2012.

I won’t comment on the soapy tea other than to say at least we know how to make a decent cup in which to dunk our stale biscuits.

Joseann Sun 11-Aug-24 23:39:26

Billie Eilish was good, but isn't she popular with the teenagers?
I think you're missing the point a bit, Syracute, that the meaning of the French ceremonies was too subtle for us Brits! Nothing to do with the actual creativity.

Will our care homes have the tv on in the 'lounge' or will it be 'lights out' by now?
9 pm cocoa and a rich tea biscuit, two if you're lucky.
Lights out by 9.30 pm.

No reading with a torch under the bedclothes. Or a sneaky look at Gransnet.

I live in a nursing home. 11.18pm, my tv on, this is GransNet,
light still on, it will be switched off when I choose.
Supper when I choose.

But, we all know there’s two things the French can’t do: humour and music.

The Seine sational pun went down like a lead balloon.

It's all very um, er, atmospheric?
Apart from That Carpet.

The Antiques Road Show was interesting.

There was a clue that it was going to be as awful as the opening ceremony.
The opening ceremony had a joke in the first few minutes.
The closing ceremony started with a durg. Not too bad by French standards.
But, we all know there’s two things the French can’t do: humour and music.

The French could do music - Ravel, Debussy and Satie to name but three.

Slept through all of it 🥱

And the music will sound even worse by then! 😫😱

I'm older still. Do you think we'll be too old to compete next time?

Joseann Sun 11-Aug-24 22:54:13

All we need now is for Meghan and Harry to make an appearanceon the beach!

I'm yet to be convinced, on the strength of what I am currently seeing, that the 2028 Games are in the best of hands.

Surely they could have come up with something better than that.

Countryfile was very good this evening as was Simon Reeve in Cornwall.

You forgot Charles Aznavour 😂
