The FA will ban transgenders from playing in women's football from next season. The only decision, really.

Caitlyn Jenner, who came out as transgender in 2015, alleged that trans women are “taking valuable opportunities” from cisgender women and “causing physical harm.”

With the exception of Daley Thompson I can't think of a single male sportsman that had the guts or integrity to speak out for women.

Sharron Davies has been a very vocal supporter women only sports since 2019. Martina Navratilova has also criticised transgender in women's sports as being "insane". Paula Radcliffe and Kelly Holmes are also vocal supporters of women only sports. And, from the BBC March 2024

More than 100 elite British sportswomen have told the BBC they would be uncomfortable with transgender women competing in female categories in their sport.
But many have expressed fears over sharing their opinion publicly because of concerns they would be seen as discriminatory.
One told the BBC "your career is over" if you speak on the subject, while another said: "You can receive abuse if you support it or don't support it. Damned if you do, damned if you don't."

You don’t have to look for statistics Skydancer.
There’d still be lies, damned lies and statistics.
There’d still be a difference between cheats and non-cheats.
And there’d still be people who support the cheats.

There is a very simple solution. Set up parallel sports teams/leagues/ groups for transpeople.

Professional football was once men only. Now we have women's team's and men's teams, women and mens leagues, each with its panolpy of cups and awards. All that is needed now is trans teams, trans, leagues, and cups etc - and the same in every other sport.

I really don't think that's what they want, but of course they're free to do that and lobby for official recognition just as the women did. I've said before a German (I think) swimming event set up a few races for transgender entrants. They didn't get one single application. Transmen haven't competed against men because their times, distances etc don't come near, and they'd never get selected for team events. Transwomen want the validation and advantage they enjoy against women in sports. It's notable that successful transwomen competitors were never successful when they competed in their own sex class. Lia Thomas as mentioned by Carlotta as a prime example. I can't recall one successful elite sportsman that has transgendered to a transwoman while still competing. Caitlyn Jenner formally Bruce has become a transwoman but not when he was a gold medal winning decathlete.

BlueBelle Thu 01-May-25 14:06:14

So what do you want skydancer a race for short legged women 🤣

I don't think we should assume that all transwomen /thought/think they should be able to enter womens category sports at all.

I admit my sample is very small one friend and what friend D has passed onto me about thinking in D's trans circles but its been realistic, of course born a male you have advantages in womens sport.

I don't think that's been the assumption at all, but every transwoman that has entered women's categories has thought that and there's been plenty of support from transgender and non-transgender people of both sexes regrettably. With the exception of Daley Thompson I can't think of a single male sportsman that had the guts or integrity to speak out for women. People like Gary Linnekar who has an opinion on every injustice going, save this one, wouldn't even acknowledge the question. I can think of one vocal transwoman, Debbie Hayton who said it was unfair and shouldn't be allowed. But then again Debbie is a science teacher, physics as I recall.

Waits for the usual women are different sizes too so some women have an advantage over others.

Yup.

Haha it was posted while you were typing 🤣🤣

Skydancer that would be a totally ridiculous and unworkable solution. Can you imagine the costs involved? Human sports aren't handicapped horse races where the handicapper tries to achieve a straight line finish of all entrants. Some people run faster than others, others can jump higher or longer. Equal size does not equate to equal ability. Segregating by sex for most things works well. Weight really only comes into play for combat events or lifting events.
Men and women of exactly the same proportions will achieve different results. I'll try to find the chart I saw comparing two swimmers and another comparing two weightlifters, one male one female in each case.

Good news but wait for all the anguished headlines about transwomen being banned from sport when in fact they're only being disqualified from entering the wrong category. No different from a welterweight male boxer being disqualified from entering the male lightweight category, or an adult entering the under 12s sprint.

No difference at all, but it’s soooo unfair 😥😥😥 to males who want to cheat.
to stop men who fail as men from cheating in female sports.
(Waits for the usual women are different sizes too so some women have an advantage over others. )
That’s life and doesn’t involve cheating.

Skydancer Thu 01-May-25 13:21:18

It's time that all sports were size/weight-related as boxing is. For example some women may be 6ft tall and others 4ft tall. How can any small person compete fairly with a much taller person? This applies particularly to running where, generally, all the contestants have very long legs.

Carlotta Thu 01-May-25 13:10:00

3 classifications, for the 3 ponds, women only, men only and mixed. Maybe they should be reclassified as 2 mixed and 1 men only.

Why? If there are 3 ponds, why should men have a pond specifically for them whilst women have 2 mixed? Why not 1 for men only, 1 for women only and 1 for mixed? Keywords Ladies Pond the clue being in the title here has this on their website:

The City of London Corporation has acknowledged last week’s UK Supreme Court ruling that the legal definition of a woman is based on biological sex. The Corporation is working through the implications of the ruling to clarify what this means in practice, for example access to our facilities, and are committed to providing a safe and respectful environment for all.

The City Corporation’s existing policies remain in effect at this time.

Transwomen are still allowed to
women only swimming ponds on Hampstead Heath. 3 classifications, for the 3 ponds, women only, men only and mixed. Maybe they should be reclassified as 2 mixed and 1 men only.

I think they'll try to resist banning men/transwomen from the ladies pond but they're going to run into problems with the changing rooms and showers which will now be mixed sex and I would assume have to be labelled as such.

Carlotta Thu 01-May-25 13:00:12

Well blow me down, but yes I did Rosie51. Rather like Will Thomas ranking in at 445th as a swimmer for University of Pennsylvania swimming team but then declared he was a woman, changed his name to Lia Thomas, and suddenly came in as the clear winner in the women's 500-yard freestyle event. Amazing!

Rosie51 Thu 01-May-25 12:47:25

Some sports people are confidently predicting that cricket will wise up next, let's hope all sports quickly follow suit. Women's sports, records and prizes for women, how very radical! Carlotta don't tell me you think there was something amiss about the pool championship final being contested by two males, aka transwomen 🙄🙄

Carlotta Thu 01-May-25 12:17:09

Good, about time too. Now let's hope that women's snooker does the same thing; grossly unfair that men who are usually taller and with a longer reach, can compete against women.

Let's look forward to the next movement gleefully embraced by the progressives, the earth is flat perhaps.

Baggs Thu 01-May-25 12:03:04

As ga says, good sense at last! Where did it all go in the face of arrant nonsense?

grannyactivist Thu 01-May-25 12:00:43

I’m so pleased that good sense is prevailing at last, although as Mollygo says, trans identifying men are absolutely still allowed to play football - just not on the women’s team where their additional strength can make them a danger to female players.

Galaxy Thu 01-May-25 11:54:52

Netball have just done the same.

Mollygo Thu 01-May-25 11:49:28

Good.
This does not prevent TW playing football if they’re good enough to get into a men’s team, so meets the should not be left without any option claim.

Galaxy Thu 01-May-25 11:46:55

They have banned men from the women's football. Men who identify as trans are free to play on the male team.
