A thread for those who are watching it.

Not sure how interested in it I will be.
Like I said on the not watching thread, it may depend how far some Countires I am interested in, get to, in the competition.

The stadium is at 7000 ft above sea level

From BBC4
There are no UK towns or settlements at 7,000 feet above sea level. The UK's highest mountains and peaks do not even reach this height; the highest point in the UK is Ben Nevis in Scotland at 4,413 feet (1,345 m).

Assuming I have got that all right.

DGS does football training in the Alps at about 5000 feet above sea level.
He's not used to it, and, although he is young and fit, he usually crashes out at some point.
7000 feet will be a tall order.

There may need to be a lot of substitutions.

Ooooh - breaking news - looks like kick off at 7pm Sunday as opposed to 1am Monday I do hope so.

fancythat Sat 04-Jul-26 07:55:40

Gone back to 1am again now.
Both teams complained.

I wonder if there will be storms?

Grammaretto Sat 04-Jul-26 08:05:16

I make England's chances of beating Mexico, with all their advantages, about 100 to 1 against - or a miracle.

I hope all the children staying up to watch aren't traumatised by the inevitable defeat.
There's been such a build-up.
😞

fancythat Sat 04-Jul-26 08:26:05

I dont rate England's chances much, either.

Charleygirl5 Sat 04-Jul-26 09:21:34

That is why I am debating watching it if it is shown at silly o'clock. I have stated before if Mexico fans keep our players awake, Mexico should be banned.

Poor fans travelling if the time is changed. They will miss the match.

I am too.

What I may do is go to bed for 3 hours and then get up again. Not sure.

I fear it may be a bad tempered match. There are reports of the England squad being booed on their arrival, in addition to the deliberate noise designed to disrupt and keep them awake.
Bad sportsmanship always suggests the perpetrators are afraid - good!

Poor England. They have enough to contend with without bad sportsmanship thrown into the mix but I’m not surprised.
I hope the ref doesn’t have a blind eye as well.

Charleygirl5 Sat 04-Jul-26 11:59:27

Mexico should be banned, end of.

merlotgran Sat 04-Jul-26 17:20:14

I can’t believe how horribly unsporting the Mexican fans are.
If I wasn’t so hungry I’d chuck tonight’s chilli con carne in the bin! 😡🤣 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

I am surprised as we have always found Mexico a friendly country 🤷‍♀️

We shall get up at 6:50, no media, cup of tea, BBC2 (the TV will be on it from the night before) and watch the rerun at 7:10.

That's a great plan!

I normally pay a visit to the loo around 3am. I doubt I’ll be able to resist putting the bedroom telly on to check out the score.

I'm still confident in my prediction on here 7 days so, France to go all the way.

Last night, Paraguay were thugs. The French kept their cool, which doesn't always come naturally to them.

Casdon Sun 05-Jul-26 07:36:58

France are the Bookies favourites, so you could well be right MartavTaurus. Spain can always surprise though, so I’m not writing them off either. If it’s not going to be England, I’d like another European side to win.

MartavTaurus Sun 05-Jul-26 07:40:31

Outside Europe, Casdon, Argentina has to be one to watch.

Casdon Sun 05-Jul-26 07:45:14

Yes, they’ve got a good chance too. Or Brazil, never to be written off.

MartavTaurus Sun 05-Jul-26 07:50:39

Just an observation, after Paraguy's poor behaviour last night, does anyone else think the referee is sometimes useless? I know it's a tough job, but letting physical violence carry on under your nose is wrong, completely.

fancythat Sun 05-Jul-26 09:05:06

I didnt see that match.

Watched Canada V Morocco.

9 yellow cards issued in total? About euqal for both teams?

In that game, not that I know too much what exactly constitutes a foul, the referee seemed to do a good job.
The crowd seemed largely happy with all the decisions.
