A thread for those who are watching it.

Not sure how interested in it I will be.
Like I said on the not watching thread, it may depend how far some Countires I am interested in, get to, in the competition.

Large stadium. High altitude.

Fantastic win. 👏👏👏
Of course it’s all down to my late Mum. 😉 she was a big football fan. In second half I said to my family it was time to bring Nanny on as it didn’t look good and I put her photo looking at the TV and told her to work her magic. In less than one minute Kane scored! My lot were flabbergasted. Kept her there and told her we needed another and Kane did it again.

Do you think your dear late mum could stay up Sunday night/Monday morning?

Can anybody explain why Mexico seem to have “home advantage “ in the next game . The altitude and home crowd will make it more difficult for our team .

fancythat Thu 02-Jul-26 09:01:48

I have been wondering the same thing.

Though I suppose, if say one of the Countries the World Cup was held in another time is England, we might expect the same thing. Maybe.

England won the World Cup in 1966, it was held in U.K., and they won it a Wembley, did they have a home advantage?

Usedtobeblonde Thu 02-Jul-26 10:46:44

They certainly need to up their game but reading about the venue it seems they will be at a disadvantage even before the start.
Thomas Tuchel is asking parents to let their children stay up for the game, I certainly won’t be and I am enjoying the tournament.
Off on a tangent I would have loved Thomas’s cheekbones when I was young😉

The Congo keeper Mpasi deserves a mention, some brilliant saves.

He plays for Le Havre and isn't their first choice keeper. He had a brilliant night.

Yes, the home team always does have an advantage. I heard on the news that Mexico have only lost twice in the last 50 years in their home stadium, which is impressive. I do hope England make it three times.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 02-Jul-26 20:21:47

Yes Casdon our 11yr old GS has just been educating me on Mexico’s impressive record…

Added to the altitude problems and being outnumbered by the home fans, Mexico have only lost 7 out of the last 92 international games played at the Azteca Stadium. Let's hope we can make that 8 lost games but if we play like we did in the first half against DR Congo we will cut our own throats. Come on England!!!
