A thread for those who are watching it.

Not sure how interested in it I will be.
Like I said on the not watching thread, it may depend how far some Countires I am interested in, get to, in the competition.

And the best team won 😁

nanna8 Sun 19-Jul-26 00:20:56

Oh well done England ! We will watch the replay this morning ( couldn’t get up in the middle of the night) . Brilliant - when you think of the number of teams playing overall ,so good.

Charleygirl5 Sun 19-Jul-26 00:41:08

I watched it last night and England did us proud. Very few fouls, the teams respected each other and at the end the French fellows shook everybody's hand, good sportsmanship. The fans on both sides behaved. Both were loud, cheering on their team but what a change from England vs Argentina. Not a card given tonight, a refreshing change.

Well worth watching and a fabulous result without running into extra time. Both teams were exhausted. It was like watching a final.

I hope Spain win tonight.

I don’t care that we didn’t win the final now. Our lads provided everyone with imo the match of the series, dare I say a match never to be forgotten. I’m so proud of them; in fact, quite tearful about it. And well done the French team, too. Sometimes everyone forgets that sport is there to entertain us, and it certainly did that. And I think it will cheer up all the football mad children like my grandchildren who must have been so disappointed the other night.

What a game 🥰👏

What a final that game would have made. I hadn't intended to watch it but on a nocturnal trip to the loo I had a quick look at my phone and saw we were winning, so watched the rest. Jed Spence has been a revelation. He'd had a poor season with an ever poorer Spurs side who narrowly missed relegation but he has had a great tournament.
It was lovely to see players from both teams with arms around each other, laughing and chatting away. You won't see Argentina do that later, win or lose. They are a poor reflection of football.

Excellent match and fantastic result. Some great players who should have played like that against Argentina. They really should have been attacking instead of constantly passing the ball back. But this match almost made up for it!

Mollygo Sun 19-Jul-26 08:47:17

Great match, lots of goals and a good result.
I just wish they had played like that against Argentina.
Lots of smiling faces too.

Grammaretto Sun 19-Jul-26 08:47:35

I just watched the highlights. It was some match!

dogsmother Sun 19-Jul-26 17:52:41

It was wonderful to see the players that hadn’t yet been much involved get their turn and boy didn’t they show the way!
I don’t think 3 rd in the world is too shabby.

merlotgran Sun 19-Jul-26 19:50:08

What a shrieking racket from Jennifer Hudson.

ixion Sun 19-Jul-26 20:14:31

Was it?
We muted everything which didn't look like a proper traditional football match!

Is it true that half time will be 25 minutes to accommodate another musicfest?

Reports suggested entry points at MetLife Stadium struggled to cope with demand, leading to extensive delays for supporters and members of the media.

Guardian journalist Sid Lowe described the situation outside the stadium as "absolutely chaotic" in a post on X before later calling it a "total sh**show" as congestion continued to build.

Spanish newspaper AS reported that more than 2,000 journalists were forced to wait in queues lasting up to three hours before gaining access to the stadium.

One reporter told the publication: "I've been here since 8:55. They were supposed to open the doors to the press at 9:00. It's almost 11:00, and I'll easily have to wait another hour and a half."

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 19-Jul-26 20:26:52

Apologies for waffling.
I somehow managed to be watching the wrong BBC channel. I’m not very good at finding channel numbers 😮

I see it’s 0-0 now 20 minutes in!

fancythat Sun 19-Jul-26 20:27:49

Boring match so far. In my opinion.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 19-Jul-26 20:29:58

I’ve got a BBC channel with Five5 radio commentary!
There’s no hope for me obviously.

merlotgran Sun 19-Jul-26 20:37:34

That stadium is scarily huge. How do they get them all out quickly if there’s a bomb scare?

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 19-Jul-26 20:57:09

Half an hour for half-time!

MartavTaurus Sun 19-Jul-26 21:04:21

Tedious match!
My DGD's mini tournament here in Devon was far more exciting today!

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 19-Jul-26 21:08:10

Argentina is bringing the game of football into disrepute and the referee is allowing it.

Wyllow3 Sun 19-Jul-26 21:12:43

I agree FGT, it was a foul-ridden attacking sheer nasty occasion.
Yesterday's match was open and well - decency of spirit.

ViceVersa Sun 19-Jul-26 21:13:46

Jeez, but this halftime malarkey is absolute nonsense! Please never let the Americans host it again!

Labradora Sun 19-Jul-26 21:18:43

My views on the style of play of Argentina are unprintable so I'll keep them to myself.
Proud of England and pleased that "the boys" got a sort of reward by coming third.
Proud also of France and the spirit in which the England France match was played.

Wayne Rooney just called it ‘crap’. LOL

merlotgran Sun 19-Jul-26 21:28:16

Well said, Wayne! 🤣🤣
