A thread for those who are watching it.

Not sure how interested in it I will be.
Like I said on the not watching thread, it may depend how far some Countires I am interested in, get to, in the competition.

Look on the bright side - we wont have to hear “Football’s Coming Home” for a few more years.

At least I can watch and enjoy that game. And, if we lose to France we'll know for certain that we would never have won the World Cup.

That's a very good point, MayBee, though you can never be sure how it would have gone on a different day!

I'm giving a holiday French lesson on Monday, so I'm hoping there might be some material to use in a discussion with a 15 year old! (Clean language only!)

Shame on the Argentine fans for booing the English national anthem and for displaying the placards. Whatever the rights and wrongs and there are plenty of wrongs on both sides, the question of who rightfully holds sovereignty of the Falklands/Malvinas should not be debated at an international football match.

The players holding that placard play for English teams. What idiots.

Seems like this thread is a few days behind events

Watched the second half of some of the matches. Some boring , some exciting

Never thought England would get to the seem finals. Very lucky to get there. Should have been Norway.

In what can only be described as the Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham Show, with help from Pickford.

Argentina really outplayed them and put them out of them of their misery. By fair means or foul. Plus the have Lionel Messi.

Can't wait for the final. It should be a great match with the other best team in the tournament Spain

Argentina have cheated their way through the tournament. The fouls they got away with in every match is disgusting. FIFA have ruined football with their corrupt officials, their “hydration breaks” their pre planned agenda. England gave their best as did Egypt, Cape Verde and Morocco. All for nothing. All cheated. I will not be watching another World cup match.

Same here. Infantino needs to be sacked after this World Cup. He is a closet Argentina fan whatever else he may say. That team are a poor example of what football stands for. Rescinding the US striker's red card and doubling the matches lost for England's red card shows Infantino for what he really is. Corrupt on many levels. I won't be watching the last 2 matches although I sincerely hope Spain win.
The carbon footprint for this World Cup and for those to come is colossal. World Cop 2030 will be even worse for the planet. The hosts will be Spain, Portugal and Morocco but 3 matches will be played in Paraguay, Uruguay and, of course, Argentina. Little brown envelopes involved in this, dare I say.
Decent countries should boycott future World Cups until the main focus is football.

For those interested
France v England 10pm this evening. For 3rd and 4th place.

MayBee70 Sat 18-Jul-26 21:27:59

I’m a bit disappointed to find that most of our star players aren’t lining up, and think it’s a bit of an insult to the competition. I mean, France are playing Mbappe. I thought they might bring on a few different players to give them a chance to play part of a game but to leave out Kane and Bellingham is a bit much. Was looking forward to it but looks as though they’re not playing to win.

fancythat Sat 18-Jul-26 21:31:36

You could be right on all counts, MayBee70.

MartavTaurus Sat 18-Jul-26 21:38:13

It all sounds a bit negative to me.

MartavTaurus Sat 18-Jul-26 22:04:41

I eat my words!

fancythat Sat 18-Jul-26 22:20:05

And now another goal!

MartavTaurus Sat 18-Jul-26 22:51:39

4 - 0 at half term. It's almost funny!

MartavTaurus Sat 18-Jul-26 22:52:16

Half time not half term! 🤣

Rosie51 Sat 18-Jul-26 22:52:49

England are playing entertaining, skilful football. These players are worthy of their positions and I think it's an unwarranted insult to suggest they're not! Perhaps if they'd played last time with their very positive attitudes we might have been playing tomorrow not today.

MartavTaurus Sat 18-Jul-26 22:54:58

I was thinking that people will be saying that if this continues.

Rosie51 Sat 18-Jul-26 23:00:36

What a half-time interview! Such emotion and pride in our team, so well said.

MayBee70 Sat 18-Jul-26 23:01:27

Well, what do I know about football. That was brilliant.

MartavTaurus Sat 18-Jul-26 23:30:19

To be fair MBappé is a star!

MayBee70 Sat 18-Jul-26 23:41:54

I was going to say, ‘knowing England we’ll still manage to lose’ but decided against it….only went in the kitchen to make a cup of tea and it all changed…sad

MartavTaurus Sat 18-Jul-26 23:51:13

Surely now!

Rosie51 Sat 18-Jul-26 23:51:33

Changed back again, despite the cheating delaying tactics of the French goalkeeper! Well done Saka a hat trick!

MartavTaurus Sat 18-Jul-26 23:59:31

This is pure agony!

MartavTaurus Sun 19-Jul-26 00:01:05

Blimey. So many goals!!!!!
