Lipstick - worth the fuss?

I agree glossies are better but I cant manage the liquidy type in a tube with a wand gets everywhere and husband asks if I've just had a jam sandwich - such a charmer! I like Bobbi Brown but the colours are muted, so I also like Clarins which are rich and creamy for winter when lips are dry, Chanel are lovely and very long lasting. I bought a nice glossy Clinique called Raspberyy glace on Saturday as I had gone out withut a lipy in my bag - imagine the horror Dont believe the sales girl when they tell you if you have had a lippy for a long time its gone off - it hasnt!

ITA about glosses and am delighted to find another By Terry fan here. Good make-up is one of my luxuries and I "economise" by using a very simple moisturiser & put Vaseline on my lips at night.

Years ago when having a sun spot removed the specialist advised me to wear lipstick to protect my lips. Lip gloss etc might not be helpful, as it may have the same effect as wearing baby oil on the skin which might let in UV rays. I also use a lip liner to cover my lips under my lipstick. I am using Clinique at the moment.

I just read that the average woman consumes 6 pounds of lipstick in her lifetime. Now I know why I can't loose weight, it's all those hidden calories.

I don't use any of the 'long-last' lipstcks - all much too powdery and harsh, therefore aging, on me. Prefer to stick with the 'lip shine' formats and just renew more often if necessary. One good new range of these sheers is Lancome, L'Absolu Nu.

Despite Anita's dislike of it Max Factor's 'Lipfinity' has become my lippy of choice - colour stays on for hours and just use the clear balm from time to time during the day to go on top of the colour.

Never wear conventional 'lipstick' and haven't for years - very aging, IMO. Glosses can be OK (eg Lancome Juicy Tubes can be nice in summer) but my preference is for a 'lipshine' - a very sheer texture which isn't powdery like a lipstick or sticky like a gloss. Lots of brands now do them. Bobbi Brown is a favourite of mine. Also Clinique. Have noticed brands like Chanel and YSL as well as Clarins also starting to do this very light texture.

Also like lip balms. My favourite is By Terry's Baume de Rose - lovely. That has a very faint pink tinge but you can also get lots of coloured balms.

Hi, I switched to gloss a few years ago. I use Chanel lip gloss which I've found ok, not gloopy. It costs more than some others but it lasts absolutely ages.

I stay with Max factor (the ordinary stuff) and no. 7. I tried the one that needs a stick of what seemed like Vaseline on top of it - and I didn't like it at all. Does anyone remember Tangee Natural. It was the first lipstick that my friends and I were allowed to use. And it stayed on!

Lipgloss can take a little bit of getting used to after years of wearing normal lippy but its worth the effort as it softens your look and can make you look younger some can be sticky and gunky but clarins have a lovely range i recommend the colour mystik its really lovely

Mac lipsticks are superb. Huge variety of colours and has great staying power as well. I also use a lip pencil, which seems to make the colour last longer, even withstand a couple of glasses of wine!!!

Clarins is my one luxury! I have over the years, however, perfected the ability to apply it without a mirror ... and once its applied feel I can face the world!

Good old Number 7........and what is truly scary, I suddenly realised that I now do what my Mum used to do....even if wearing no make-up...I still make sure I dont leave house without lipstick on.........!

Bobbi Brown are excellent - natural colours and great textures. I personally prefer gloss now - matt not a good idea.

Maybelline is very creamy and dosen't dry out
