Civil Partnership getting closer......tried and trusted makeup or something new?

Hi Earthynanna Just stumbled across your post and what you are describing sounds perfect. We were lucky enough to attend my daughters best friends CP last year and their theme was very much the post war English tea party that you describe. All beautifully odd china tea cups, saucers and plates lovingly collected by friends and family in the months leading up the big day. Everything was hand made by friends (my daughter is very crafty) and the final effect was amazing. As centre pieces for each table they had odd cake stands picked up in charity shops with pieces of "tat" jewellery (strings of pearls, brooches etc) draped on each one. They had home made bunting and a beautiful home made sweetie shop complete with jars of favourite sweeties that we all helped ourselves to the odd quarter of .

All in all a beautiful and very moving day.

I bought some of that months ago crimson but just can't get on with it. I end up with streaks of pale colour in the "under eye bags", perhaps I should try again. Using a little bit of fake tan every three or four days at the moment to add a bit of colour

Touche eclat. I thought I'd lost mine today as I was getting ready to go out, and went into a sort of panic mode. A 'must have'.

Earthynanna I think your plans for your day sound perfect!!!

I would have a few practice runs with your makeup, try a few different makes so you can decide which you feel more comfortable with.

If I was a friend I would not be offended by you asking for help, sounds like a great celebration and I would be honoured to have you ask for my help and I am sure thats how your Friends will react.

I haven't stepped over the door without makeup for the last...... well so many years, but I'm not so keen on having my photograph taken and want to look as natural as possible (and as gorgeous of course )

I will be starting a Catering for Occasions thread soon. We really don't want to spend a fortune so are catering ourselves which seemed like a good idea but now seems a mite ambitious.

We want to create the atmosphere of a post-war church tea; do you know what I mean? I was part of an Anglican Church in Wales community and at Whitsun and Harvet we had the best teas ever, with savoury tarts and pies, boiled potatoes etc.

We have been collecting china teasets, we've bought the wine, we have ordered the rings.

It's the actual 'doing' on the day that I'm worried about; I might ask a couple of friends to come along to serve the food and supervise DGS1's teenage friends if they serve drinks, clear plates etc. would you be offended if a friend asked that? We are limiting to family and very close friends in the day then more of a shindig in the evening to which said friends are invited as part of our social circle.

last year I was invited to the celebration of the civil partnership of 2 dear friends.A gathering of around 30 friends and family.Lots of hugs love and laughter. Most of us were 60+, looking glamorous and colourful.
It was such a joyous occasion conducted beautifully with support and humour by the celebrant.(male) with music and readings chosen by the partners who skipped down the aisle at the end of the ceremony to a favourite song!
We had lunch at the new Raymond Blanc restaurant in Bristol- flowers and decorations by their friends.
Sharing this day with them made us all happy too.It was a privilege to be there.
What comes across in the photos is not the make-up and dress but their very evident happiness.Whatever you choose I hope your day will be equally happy and memorable.

Get some advise......at the lower end of the market the people at Bodyshop are always up for a bit of a makeover as are the ladies at No7. However do it at least a month before just incase that what they recommend does not suit. Can always remember my Mum treating herself to a new eyeshadow for my wedding and three days later she had dreadful puffy eyes.

Have you tried the Clinque counter they have a different range for sensitive skin also try their green tinted base make-up it stops you going too blushed during the day (if you know what I mean )

I would certainly do a full scale trial of your make-up and hair well before the big day, perhaps even get it done at your local beautician, but you might find that she uses more make up than you really like.

I had a quick look around last time I was in John Lewis, I must make time to speak to some-one.

My skin is quite sensitive so a trial is a good idea.

Earthynana First I would start with your hair,with it being nice and short once you have styled it give it a spray with a really good glossing spray and don't be afraid to use to much,it will look fab on photographs.
As for make-up I would tend to go for slightly (1/2 shades) darker and a black mascara it will bring out your eyes on the pic's,it may be a good idea to go and visit cosmetics counter in Lewis's/Debenhams and ask for them to give you a make over you will come away with some freebies and try again at home before the big day and make up your mind,bear in mind you are going to be under extra lighting and you need a make-up that will stay the course.
