Crocs (and Uggs)

I cannot help but admire these companies for selling such simply constructed footwear at such huge markups. A triumph of marketing (and probably some luck somewhere e.g. Kate Moss wearing their products). I have never bought either apart from some discounted ones for GKds.
We now have a Crocs shop. £35 for a pair of shoes that must cost pennies to make. About £25 for kids ones. shock
They have them in Costco for a tenner less if anyone is thinking of buying some. And I guess there is still a generous markup on that price.

I wish I could wear crocs,I have a hard to fit narrow foot. Clark's have some narrows. I'm limited in choice.sad

I've just bought some boots online; second pair I've bought. First pair had to be returned but it was free postage and all I had to do was put the sticker on and send them back to the P.O. Latest pair are perfect and I'm going to buy more from the company.

I prefer my berkenstocks. I wear them indoors and out from Spring to Autumn.

Overthehill,thankyou

Great minds and Gransnetters obviously think alike. I saw some lovely sandals on a friend yesterday that she said she were Crocs bought on line. Your post has reminded me to look at the site. I'm not too sure about buying shoes by post but I'll give it a go!

I always thought crocs were a gimmick until I bought a pair myself (genuine ones) bright yellow.

Good in hot or cold weather. I like them because I seem to slip over at the slightest provocation and these are nice and grippy. I won't walk upstairs in slippers, so I have a pair of these in doors and for walking in the garden and when I want to go upstairs I just kick them off.

We have a caravan and I have a cheapy pair in there to walk to the shower block, again easy on, easy off.

Wouldn't be without mine.

Are Crocs too synthetic to wear in really hot weather? I get very painful feet that are worse in hot weather. I've also got Raynaud's so they're bad cold weather.confused

I've got a pair of Crocs flip flops that came from ebay. Wouldn't be seen out in them but they are very comfortable smile

Love the expression pasty-shaped shoes. It reminds me of what a student at school said when trying to describe one of the English teachers "She wears those shoes that look like hovercraft"!!
Or indeed one of my bookclub friends when trying to remember the name of her Birkie clogs, said "You know, those lesbian shoes"

Lilygran Fri 22-Mar-13 11:38:36

Thanks, Bags, I'll visit the usual sites now I know they are out there. Live in Nikes at the moment.

Bags Fri 22-Mar-13 11:23:10

I remember those pasty-shaped Clarks shoes, lily. I had some in the late seventies. Loved them. Called them my Florence shoes after Florence on The Magic Roundabout.

Clarks are now making something similar again. My friend has some.

And Clarkes won't let me step into their photo machine thing to measure my feet. Don't think they are the same size and width any more.

LullyDully Fri 22-Mar-13 11:19:09

Comfort has to come first for shoes. I see Sarah Jessica Parker is complaining about her ruined feet from wearing very high heels too much. hmm

annodomini Fri 22-Mar-13 11:09:08

Were those the 'Cornish Pasty' shoes, Lilygran?
I make no apology for buying most of my shoes from Hotter. They are comfortable and fit me well. They are also made in Britain which has to be a plus point for them.

Just caught up - that's for the slipper info. B. I hadn't noticed it 'blued'.

goldengirl Fri 22-Mar-13 10:54:01

Thanks Bags that's helpful

The journalists who write the fashion columns are often SO RUDE about Crocs and Uggs but I just look at the fashionable 5inch heels and pointy toes and wonder what they will choose to wear in a few years! hmm. Clarks used to do foot-shaped shoes and I loved them, went abroad for a couple of years, came back and they'd stopped making them! Beautifully comfortable to wear, rather weird-looking. Bit like Crocs, really. Anyone else remember them?

annodomini Thu 21-Mar-13 23:29:54

My crocs came from - need I say it? - Ebay, though some sellers still ask - and get - top dollar for them.

JessM Thu 21-Mar-13 22:15:38

DS2 likes his hobbit shoes too. Get some strange looks, particularly from children. grin

Bags Thu 21-Mar-13 15:49:59

goldengirl, I have some of the originals, Vibram FiveFingers. They were not cheap and are made in Italy, but they are great for not slipping on grassy slopes while scything because you can grip with all toes and your instep (too cold in Scotland for bare feet; these are the next best thing). Sorry, I don't know where to get cheaper versions.

LullyDully Thu 21-Mar-13 15:46:34

Made the link for Celtic and co and now its flashing at the top of GN.confused

janthea Thu 21-Mar-13 15:26:26

I have some UGGs but also some Celtic Sheepskin ones which I prefer - www.celticandco.co.uk - and I think they are cheaper.

Never worn Crocs but may try them in the summer - if we ever have one!!
sad

goldengirl Thu 21-Mar-13 15:04:32

Does any know where to get cheaper versions of those flat, flexible 'shoes' that have individual toes? I think they're from Australia too but are incredibly expensive. They're great for exercising as they have grips and I would imagine would be great for pebbly beaches and swimming.
