Eyebrows
(51 Posts)The lovely eyebrows of my youth have long gone - just a few wispy hairs left. Eyebrow pencil looks awful and I can't get the two eyebrows to match so it looks really odd. Has anyone had eyebrows tattooed on? I would be worried that I might not like how they look and it would then be too late. Are there any other alternatives?
I had a ping lightbulb moment about a certain trainer and was going to do an accumulator; didn't know how to tie the bet up so that I could cover any horses that didn't place so didn't bother. Result was something like 1,1,1,3,1,2,0, two of the prices being 12/1 and 40/1. Thankfully passed on the 40/1 horse to ome friends that did back it so all was not lost. But still feel like someone that forgot to do the lottery on the one day that their numbers came up
. Tidal Bay [Terry], the grumpiest and most beloved horse racing at the moment will be there on Saturday as well.
Oh tegan , so sorry to hear that ! Anyways you live to fight another day.
The next little wager may bring good fortune !
Don"t forget Bobsworth is running at Haydock on Saturday , Might be worth a small flutter .
Anyway I am sending you these
to cheer you .
I've had my Elizabeth Arden powder for about 8 years and it's still almost full; I reckon it'll outlast me
. Pleased to hear that, Nonu; I had a disaster of a day betting wise on Saturday and am still in a state of shock [sob]. Anything positive in my life at the moment cheers me up
.
A powder would look more natural than a pencil, just use the closest one to your natural colour with a slanted brush! Cheap tip - use a matt eyeshadow instead of a fancy expensive brow kit too!
Tegan I read your post about the Elizabeth Arden brow powder so I thought I would give it a whirl .
I bought some yesterday and I LOVE IT, IT IS PERFECT !!
Have a
on me !!
Hi Nonu no I don't usually go to see those lights turned on - next weekend I see. Maybe I will for once. Assume you are a Suffolk girl then?
I think threading is more painful than waxing which also seems much quicker. I did not enjoy being so close to the lady doing the threading.
Liked the video , as did the model .
However, my hair is very different , it has a natural movement so whatever is done it does what it wants anyway.
When I feel it needs a trim I just cut the front then get the mirror look at the back and snip what needs taking off .
Extremely professional , John Frieda would be proud . Giggle.
always looks okay.
Ipswich lights going on soon , will you be there ?
this is it Nonu www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dQ9fySG95k
Annodomini - I had my brows threaded a couple of years ago. I haven't had it done again, as I found they did them too thin and so unlike my own brow shape. Since my daughter moved out (she is an expert) I have mine done at the beauty shop nearby. Never had anything 'done' until I was over 60, my brows were out of control, but much thinner, just wider than before. The lovely young woman who does them for me now, uses wax, and fine tweezers. My hair is short, so I get them done every few weeks as my fringe doesn't cover them. They look better than they ever did. I've bought an eye brow pencil in a lighter brown than my own brows, another first for me.
Tell me what the Mumsnet haircut is & I will tell you whether I do it !!!!!!Although judging by the way they speak to each other it is probably unlikely !
That's good to know Nonu. May I ask, how do you cut your own hair? Is it the famous Mumsnet haircut? Or do you have it short and wavy? I do colour it myself, but have only trimmed my fringe, never dared do more.
My sister has a long bob, and her husband has just trimmed her hair for years for her, and it looks fine.
You are not a minority of one * Sunflower * I never go to hairdressers , and haven't done so for many , many years .
I just hate people fiddling with my hair , so cut and colour myself !!!!!!!!
although I am not off to ma wee beddie just yet
I must be in the minority because I don't enjoy going to the hairdressers yet alone the beauty salon, and never have!
I would quite like someone professional to do my eyebrows though, to see if there would be a 10 year younger transformation.
.
Mine are still there but a bit untidy, dark brown with some overactive wiry white ones shooting attractively everywhere! I trim them a bit shorter, and occasionally when doing semi hair tint, put a bit on my brows too - probably a big no no but has worked fine.
I found the video very long winded . Got bored I am afraid !!
I am getting HD brows done. I accompanied my Daughter on a trip to the beauty salon and I was very impressed. I have been getting my brows threaded but apparently Threading can thin your brows too much and cause them to grow back at odd angles. So I will let you know how I get on
.
The link to the video below is a great demo and offers a great tip to encourage hair growth rub a small amount of Castor oil into your brow.
HD Brows are a combo of waxing, dying, shaping and plucking. It;s my first foray into the world of salon but I like JessM ( above ) I don't want to be scruffy gran I want to be a Glam-Ma
HD Brows
I have sparse pale eyebrows and find the quickest easiest is buy cheap brown mascara and also have old mascara wand wiped clean. Gently go over hairs with the brown and use the dry brush to remove any excess.
deedaa
I have my own salon and I have a thing about eyebrows so apologies for the overlong post. I shaped my Mum's eyebrows when she was 60 something and she cried real tears of delight....afterwards we went out for a meal and she kept disappearing to the loo. She finally admitted that she was just going to gaze at her brows in the mirror in wonder!
I don't do tattooing, but a lot of my ladies have had it done and they are delighted with the result and it looks very natural when done well. It isn't as good as having hair, and there are some horror stories, so get a recommendation, My ladies are nagging me to offer it as they want a top-up (it doesn't last forever) and they don't want to travel, so they must be happy with it. It doesn't last forever.
A good eyebrow tint and shape will really enhance your facial features and take years off your appearance. Look on You tube for some tips. If you want to pay someone to shape your brows it's a bit like picking a hairdresser. You will get a better result if you stay loyal and visit regularly. IMHO anyone who has taken the trouble to learn to thread will have an interest in eyebrow shaping. But then I'm biased, I have had some horror experiences with young ladies dabbing wax on my brows without discernment and leaving me looking permanently surprised for months!
A very pale brow will benefit from some colour. Grey Head hair can look fabulous as long as it is in good condition, but the face often benefits from softly darkened eyebrows. Eyebrow dye colours come in light brown, various shades of auburn, grey and black as well as purple and blue. You mix up the shade that you want. If you don't want it too dark, don't leave it on for as long as the packet says - wipe off after 3 mins and reapply if you think it isn't dark enough. A good salon will mix a colour to suit your face. It needs to be done every 6 weeks or so, but the colour should gradually lighten back to the original - you won't get roots. Do your lashes at the same time, but go a lot darker and use lots of Vaseline and a moistened cotton pad under the eye to avoid looking like you've slept in eyeliner for the next few days!
Buying 2 or 3 colours plus activator and paying postage will cost you the same as several visits to the salon.
You can find tutorials on You tube to show you how to use make-up to thicken and fill in your brows. Or ask the girl that does your brows or someone on a make-up counter to show you. You can do this with powder or pencil. You need to use a good brush with powder. The look is slightly different and it's personal preference which is best for you. You want a grey/brown shade, variations on taupe. I use Barefaced Beauty matt mineral powder. I think one £8 pot will see me out! A highlighter pencil under (and above!) the brows looks wonderful. Outline the brow and then squidge the colour into the edge of your brows to blend. Use a brush not your finger. I use the Billion Dollar Brows dual concealer/highlighter pencil. Benefit does a nice one too. Make-up can only do so much, so if it looks too fake, get a brow tint (dye) and try again. You can use a Q tip to take off any surplus and to blend if you've been a bit heavy handed.
If your eyebrows are sparse there is a new regeneration product called Brow Boost sold by Billion Dollar Brows available by mail order (google it). I buy it from the UK license holder: Kerie Hoy who is based in Hitchin. Kerie brought the product into the UK because she liked it so much after using it herself that she thought "I've got to have this for my salon!" It works on lashes too. I don't think it will work post chemo though.
Sorry Penstemmon I mentioned that she was Indian because most of the people doing threading round here are. I spent some of my formative years in Southall and got used to the curry smell which is quite distinctive and of course has nothing to do with ethnicity and happens to anyone who eats curry.
I like my strong eyebrows. I've also had threading done for years, it's the best way of taming tidying them. Never had a problem with anyone leaning over me, smelling of anything either. I love the threading women that I go to, they are friendly and professional and do a marvellous job, takes minutes. I also have them dyed to hide the few grey ones - I quite like having thick, defined, dark eyebrows with my gray hair.
We've had a threading thread
before, when someone commented that they shuddered at the thought of the person having to put the thread in their mouths. That doesn't bother me either.
I went to a beautician on my high street once for a facial who asked me if she could 'shape' my eyebrows, and I stupidly said yes, not understanding the difference between tidying up and obliterating them. Took months for them to grow back and I was traumatised!
Having just had a curry Deedaa I may be feeling a bit touchy..but I felt uncomfortable about your comment. If she had had halitosis and been English would it have been as bad and would you have mentioned her ethnicity???
You are right to say that eyebrow threading in quite intimate so the personal hygiene of the threader is all important.
I had mine threaded once but although they looked fine I was put off by the curry breath of the Indian lady doing them. They do have to get very close to you
If left unchecked I would have 2 dark brown bushes. I have them threaded around every couple of weeks. The only problem is that rarely are they the same afterwards but what else can I expect for £3? I certainly do not understand the word sparce.
Annodomini what do you want to know about threading? I have had it done now for years.
