Female hair loss.

I am fortunate that my hair is still thick, and I do think of it as an asset, I'm lucky because I've always coloured it, it has been varying shades of red and blonde for the last 50 years.
I so feel so much for those who have thinning hair because I know that I don't feel right if my hair isn't right.

What I want to say is about wigs. My sis in law lost her hair via chemo. She got a wig supplied and was dreading it. Wow.... it was fabulous. She got it before her loss of hair, in preparation, and one day was in my house ..... I said her new cut really suited her. And she lifted the wig off. She got a 2nd wig. One was a bob and the other was an elfin cut.

I know that a wig is a poor substitute for luxuriant hair and know that I would be devasted to lose my hair. But from what I've seen I wouldn't be afraid to have a wig, honestly.... they are so natural nowadays.

I guess it's easy for me to say..... and I hope I haven't offended anyone.

These comments touched a chord with me - I used to have very thick hair and now it is rapidly thinning and I appear to have male pattern baldness -i.e. a receding hairline with virtually no hair growth or fringe - I'm planning to start being creative with scarves to try and hide the hair loss but as I have also suffered for the past 10 years with very bad hot flushes and night sweats I'm not sure how I will cope - I can't even wear a hat because I overheat!
Still, looking on the positive didn't Queen Elizabeth 1 have a similar hairline - and it didn't seem to styop her acheiving!

hjw my hair has gone the same way as yours so I have a fringe which I don't think really suits me. In the last few years I have lost about an inch and a half from my hairline at the front and the skin there is very white and feels different. Like you, I think about QE1 who I think had the same.

It's the front part of my hair that's the worst so, although I have a fringe there, it's very sparse. It's not too bad at the back [at least I don't think it is; I can't really see it]. Coolgran; no offence taken at all; I'm still planning to look at wigs but, like hjw I get very hot just wearing a hat.

Does anyone out there have experience of hair loss, due to medication 'Ramipril'. I believe it has a reported side effect.
I have until a year ago had a good head of hair, but the rate it is falling out I am surprised I am not nearly bald.
At the mo I still have 'enough'

I am 62 and have never had what you would call thick hair, but it thinned markedly after the birth of each of my two children. It never recovered and has become much worse since the menopause. There isn't a cure, but my advice would be to go as short as you dare: the German lesbian look isn't for everyone, but a good cut and a bit of hair wax go a long way. Also, going grey or white helps, too.

I haven't heard of the German lesbian look before. Quite funny.
You made me realise that thinning hair isn't a good look, when you can see your scalp showing through. So Grey or White it has to be.
Fortunately I am not quite there yet.
I have a friend who has very short thin hair, and dies it Black. The back view looks awful, especially when it needs washing. I would like to tell her, but I know how upset she would be.

What on earth is the German lesbian look ?

I meet lots of Germans in Mauritius and they don"t seem to sport it !!

I have fabulous, thick, lustrous, blonde hair..... unfortunately it isn't my own Well I did pay for it so I suppose it is my own.............

My mum started losing her hair in her mid 30s.
And now she has reached the grand age of 70 she is more or less bald.
I can remember the attempts she made in the early days to save what hair she had.
But it was all in vain, because it all fell out regardless of the treatments etc etc that she paid to have by various people.
Now she resorts to wearing a wig, and she even wears it when she is home.
I assume that is because she still finds it difficult to accept that her hair fell out?
I think hair loss Is harder for females to come to terms with than males?
I started losing my hair in my mid 20s.
In fact I can still remember the day I went to have my hair cut and the barber noticed what was then a small bald patch starting to appear on the crown of my head.
And so he told me that within a few years I would be bald.
I was 17 years old at the time and so that came as a real shock to me.
And because I have always been very shy, it made me even more shy and I started getting anxious about it.
I endured much teasing from my the people I hung around with during that time.
But it still took me a very long time before I finally learned to accept my hair loss.
Now I can face people with covering up my bald head.
whereas back in the early 1980s, baldness was something teenagers People seemed embarrassed about.
whereas These days baldness seems to be "cool" and accepted.

All these comments make me feel a lot better. I am 87 and just beginning to see a small bald spot on top of my head. As I have very fine hair I am looking for a small hairpiece set on a hair band to get some volume, but hairpieces are usually made of a lot of thick heavy hair. Where do you find one made of fine hair? Probably not possible, so maybe I should just be grateful for what I have got. Anyway, should I be so vain at my age? The trouble is that like many of you I don't feel a day over - say 65.

That's what I'm looking for yulle; still haven't found the time to go to a specialist shop though.

Have any of you seen the advert that was in Saturdays DM I think, for a spray on product called Bouffe?

Sounds very similar to the one for men, which always makes me think of that stuff you used to be able to get to spray on vases etc. to give them that 'flock' look so popular in wallpapers of that era!

I've seen that sort of thing on utube and also on one of the shopping channels. Knowing me I'll probably find I'm allergic to it and when I wash it out what little hair I have got comes off with it....

that lovely hairdresser on This Morning was recommending Bouffe. I would be interested to know if it works.

Annoyingly I was in Boots yesterday. I'm definately going to give it a go, Katy, especially as the main reason I've let my hair go white is that I thought it would be easier to match colours to if I found a way of making my hair appear fuller.

I don't know if it's widely available yet - had a look on Boots website and all Bouffe products are out of stock, more stock coming soon.

Ah! Just read elsewhere that Bouffe will be in the shops on 6th August.
