My beautiful vintage Topshop blouse

Because that's the only word for it! It's definitely not a top smile I bought it today from a shop near where I work and it is beautiful, black silk covered in tiny green hearts, and it has a pussycat bow (I do believe that's what it is called (think Margaret Thatcher). And the quality! Covered buttons, beautifully made, pure silk. The only thing is, the label says "Professional Dry Clean Only". Surely that has changed and I can wash it in gentle laundry wash? Don't fancy having to take it to the dry cleaners all the time.

Sounds lovely gk. I'd hand wash it in mild soapy water, rinse v. well and don't wring - leave to drip. Good luck!

Does anyone remember the name of the soft flaky soap you bought in a box that was good for hand-washing?

Lux?

Dreft was also good for washing delicate garments.

Ah yes, Dreft! Thanks anno. It'll now go on my UK shopping list.

If you love it that much I wouldn't risk hand washing it even.

Fabric quality is different now, with new finishes that allow them to be put into water. Not sure that this would apply to a real vintage item though Grannyknot

Enjoy wearing it smile

and yes the flakes were Lux

I have a 100% pure silk blouse, bought new at least 15 years ago from Tie-rack. It has been washed in the machine, cool wash, ordinary powder, with other dark clothes some 200? 300? times, hung up to dry on a hanger, no ironing and is still (almost) as good as new.

If you do decide to dry clean DON'T take it to 'Johnson's the Cleaners'. I would not trust them to wash a dishcloth. ( I have said why on a different thread a few weeks ago so will not repeat here).

I always used Dreft I found Lux soapflakes were a bit cloggy. I would hand wash the blouse in warm soapy water and rinse well. Don't wring, gently squeeze and lay it on a towel which I would roll up to absorb the water, then I would dry it flat.

I'll second that tiggy they are hopeless.

Grannyknot Asda do an own brand delicate handwash that I have used many times to wash those delicate little things that always seem to end up at my house. I successfully washed 4 beautiful, delicately beaded, bridesmaid dresses earlier this year and gently spinned them in pillowcases. They were "dry clean only" and are as good as new ! Good luck.

Thanks, GB, I bought some silk wash at Waitrose and gently soaked it and hung it out to dripdry and totally successful. I'm wearing it again this weekend at another event, it's going to be a favourite.
