Whatever happened to Weekenders ?

Never heard of them Nankate who or what were they?

DD1 bought some years ago, but was it from a party ( like tupperware parties?)

Kittylester they were women's casual clothes sold at people's houses as Rosequartz said like Tupperware.

The had colour themes and outfits you could put together. They were easily washable and I think Canadian.

I still wear the ones I have from years back.

My friends & I used to buy from Weekenders, one of them said that they started to design for the " younger " market, & guess what ? They went under! Yes I think that they were Canadian , NanKate.

Oh don't get me started!! When I think of the Weekenders clothes I have chucked or given to the charity shop etc I could weep! Easy to pack, easy to wash, easy to wear and virtually indestructible. I was devastated when they went under but as Joelise says they tried to appeal to a younger market, and like M&S, lost the plot. I am just cross that I didnt keep my items but fell for that thing that tells you if you haven't worn something for a year - chuck it out. Whoever had that idea first never tried living on a pension

Absolutely Soutra, I did keep my Weekenders outfits & when DGD2 was baptised a year ago, wore one of the outfits, it still looked good, & not "dated"

Never heard of them! When I clicked on this thread I thought it was about an old soap opera...

It was mostly classic stuff and they had some really good colours. I particularly liked the long edge to edge jackets, trousers to match or straight skirts with a good slit at the back so you could walk in them. Everything could be bought to coordinate and it was a doddle to wash. I still have 2 long sleeved cowl neck tops and 2 sleevelss cowl necks( both cream and black) and 2 ruched polo neck tops, brown and black and they just don't wear out! So cross about the rest though

Was that the stuff that was mostly made of jersey and was good for packing to go away? I remember going to one of those parties about 18 years ago. I think I had a pair of trousers and matching long cowl-necked tunic with belt.

I wonder if DD1 still has her stuff, won't fit me probably

Yes Janerowena the material was jersey. I have one pair of trousers left.

I hadn't heard of them either and was thinking of a box of chocolates! There did used to be a box of chocolates called Weekend, I think.

It was so lovely to come across this thread on Google. I loved Weekenders fashions and in fact was a co-ordinator for the company for 10 years. The 2 guys who ran it George and Bill in Canada did a great job and expanded it into my different countries. I worked in the UK. We had fantastic fashion shows usually twice a year in Harrogate and Bournemouth. The coordinators would turn up in the clothes accessorised with sashes, belts, jewellery etc and all looked amazing. We had excellent, productive training courses in Milton Keynes, The ethos was one of sharing and caring - for each other and the customers. It was great fun doing the presentation with the bag that turned into a raincoat ! Such a clever concept. It was very sad when Weekenders closed but I am so grateful to have such wonderful of that happy time with them.

I bought a couple of things at a party. They were very good quality, washed well and didn’t bobble.
Like a lot of clothing the fabric was so much better quality in the past.

I used to sell Weekenders clothing, a few years after I left they just disappeared. I still have some bits and pieces, they have lasted well. My mum was a great fan

You can buy them on EBay, in Canada at least...

On eBay in UK too - sold now as ‘Vintage’

I had the raincoat that turned into a bag. It lasted for years. I also have a fleece which I still wear, which I am sure I got through one of these parties. Good quality clothes.

Just this week I saw on eBay the long ribbed edge to edge jacket. asking price £22
I think (smug face) the one I bought in about 1995, which is still going strong, cost about that!
I was working in those days and have a glorious hoard of their items, still used regularly

I also sold their clothes and still have a maxi coat, jacket and a few of the wonderful polos. The 2 Canadians who founded it sold to the family who owned the mill that made the material. Unfortunately they expanded too quickly, carried too much unsold stock in expensive warehouses and eventually went bust and closed. Such a shame. The original company was great and I too loved the fashion shows and all the Razzamataz. It was indeed a very caring set up.
