Wouldn't anyone be wrinkled married to Michael Howard? grin

No, she definitely isn't pear-shaped! But the article reminds me about necklines. I'm the same age as Sandra Howard and I don't like to wear décolleté tops either. Finding jumpers for my 100 year old mother seems almost impossible for the same reason. There are a lot of over-70s spending money. Perhaps it's a conspiracy with the scarf manufacturers.

I've also seen Sandra Howard in real life and she is a bit wrinkly but also smiley and very friendly.

She is on her 5th husband .... so maybe wrinkles are to be expected!

Ana I am with you on that one.

It's a bit ironic that the one she liked the best was the M&S one, given the negative comments about them on the other thread.
I've always admired Sandra Howard's style and perhaps if M&S employed her as a consultant and/or model/leading lady I might be more tempted to look at their stuff.
Nothing wrong with being pear-shaped, in my view. I think they are pleasing aesthetically. It's only in modern times, since Twiggy (who I don't admire at all) that women have aspired to slim hips, which for most is an unrealistic objective.

Your doctor didn't have a very good bedside manner.

If a doctor said that now to a patient he would be up before the medical board to explain himself. Perhaps you would have got £5,000 for your hurt feelings !

My old doctor said I had child bearing hips and was built like a dock yard slip way. Pear shaped sounds quite nice.

She is definitely a pear shape which , as durhamjen says, is nothing to do with how big she is. As a model she will automatically be thinking about clothes which will even out her shape. It is a lot healthier to be a pear than an apple as fat carried on the hips and thighs isn't as dangerous as fat carried round the stomach.
The thing that annoys me is journalists talking about a "curvy" size 12. Even with today's larger sizes a 12 is still thin in my opinion!

All that her calling her neat figure pear-shaped (i.e. normal for a woman) says to me is that she's silly. jingl put it more straightforwardly.

JessM Mon 10-Mar-14 16:18:36

She has nicely curved hips and a neat bust. If that is pear shaped its a good thing to be in my book.

I don't worry about the price of cashmere either - I can't afford it! grin

durhamjen Mon 10-Mar-14 15:20:36

She definitely looks pear shaped in the plum one.
As I never wear animal products, I needn't worry about the prices of cashmere.

NanKate Mon 10-Mar-14 15:08:31

I thought Durhamjen she was implying that she had big hips when she patently doesn't. Perhaps I see the word 'pear shape' as being negative, but as I am definitely pear shaped I think I should just keep quiet !

I think what I am trying to say is that I would prefer people in the media to be totally honest and say things as they are. I don't think that is likely to happen in the immediate future, if ever.

kittylester Mon 10-Mar-14 14:52:40

I've seen her in real life and thought she had loads of wrinkles. My fat stops me having wrinkles - it plumps the skin out!! grin

durhamjen Mon 10-Mar-14 14:42:59

Surely it does not matter what size you are, pear-shaped just means your hips are bigger than your bust, doesn't it?
I know women who are size eight and pearshaped.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 10-Mar-14 12:19:05

Topshop is quite nice too.

She must starve herself. daft cow

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 10-Mar-14 12:16:49

Ah! (It's the pink one second row down)

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 10-Mar-14 12:16:04

And this is the only one of the sweaters I like too! And look at the price tag!

NanKate Mon 10-Mar-14 11:41:23

I have just seen Sandra Howard (70s) modelling in the newspaper some cashmere sweaters. She says she likes them to cover her hips because she is pear shaped ! She looks about a size 10/12 with a flat stomach, what rubbish to give the impression she is bigger.

And now my 'danders up' why in the paper when they show larger models they call them curvy when they are trying to avoid saying, large, fat etc.

I have been during my adulthood from 14 to 20 (at present 14 /16) so I feel I can speak on the subject.

The sooner we are honest with ourselves about our weight the better.

What do others think ?
