NfkDumpling.....interested in what you said about the Keen sandals, I'd not heard of them before so glad to see your comment. I have big clumpy feet - so not too bothered about the look of them. grin

Smartwool walking socks may help. I need orthotics so sandals aren't possible. breathable trainers are good as well.

I get hot feet too.
I had a wonderful pair of Keen walking sandals. Open at the toe, but the soles sort of curled up and I never stubbed my toes. They were waterproof too - sounds silly but meant the leather was waterproof. Most useful. Their replacement style had solid toes and looked rather too clumpy to wear all the time so instead I now have an Ecco pair which are about to enter their fourth summer. Not bad considering I wear them daily all summer.

Thanks Granny23. Unfortunately I've not got an Aldi near me. confused

Last week I got a pair of trainer/sandals, all leather including insole but 'composition' tread. A mere £12.99 from Aldi, and so comfortable.
DD saw mine and hotfooted (sorry) off to get a pair but found that the plain black ones were sold out and they only had the horrible shiny, beigey ones left. Might be worth a look in your local Aldi though.

Have you checked out Vibram Fivefingers? Good for narrow feet too.

P.S. Rohan do a range of walking socks for different climates.

Sports sandals? - anyone know a make that fit really narrow feet? Merell used to at one time and then the fitting seemed to change.

Has anyone come across any walking sandals with a leather footbed?

I used to wear them all the time but I need more arch support these days. Pretty much lived in Clarkes trekkies.

I am a fan of decent 'walking' sandals. Ecco do some good ones as do Merrell and Salomen (?) . Not cheap but both my pairs are well over 6 years old. Am just starting to window shop for some new ones that will enclose my toes a bit more, an American brand called Keen do a couple of styles so am going to try some on next visit to shops.

What about wearing hiking sandals, jenny? I don't know what sort of terrain you walk on, but there are some quite sturdy ones. If your feet get too hot, their getting wet sometimes might be an advantage.

Thank you for your replies i wear trainers a find walking boots heavy but will get some lighter one I wear cropped ones in summer will google the socks I am such a cold thing normalyL but at the moment strip off as I go I thought it was because I am not fit not 3 miles yesterday and 2 other walks recently

My feet sweat so much I use antiperspirant on them, and I can't wear normal trainers with synthetic linings. So my walking shoes are all leather, expensive but much more comfortable. They are by Meindl and came from an outdoor shop. Should last me out!

Coolmax socks? I have not tried them, but worth a google.

Do you sweat when walking? If so you can buy clothes (including socks) that 'wick' the sweat away from your skin.

If it's a question of feeling too hot then wear something light, perhaps loose, cheap cotton trousers? It may well be that the extra heat is because you are unfit and the problem will resolve itself as you do more. And perhaps carry water to cool yourself down?
