Earrings

I had my ears pierced in my twenties and wore earrings until a few years ago when I got bored with them.

Recently I have decided to start wearing them again (I had to force an earring through healed over skin on one ear).

I've noticed that a lot of women my age are still wearing danglers but I think these are now a bit dated. I find I am favouring austere studs.

I wonder what other Gransnetters think.

I inherited a pair of diamond ones, but am petrified that I will lose them.

I do have a pair of black opal earrings, they were bought 19 years ago after I had my son, to go with my engagement ring, which is also black opal. They are very pretty, in the shape of a flower with a larger central stone surrounded by lots of little stones. The ring is the same, set in a gold filigree leafy band. I don't actually 'do' rings, earrings are my thing, but I think it is the most beautiful ring ever. (Only for me!) It's my birthstone, too. I did manage to find a pair of dangly moonstone earrings that looked almost identical, although they are set in silver, not gold.

Don't look at all the gorgeous earrings they sell, you will be here all night!

My DD gave me 9 pairs yesterday smile Brand new, in a presentation box. She had ordered them online in silver and they sent gold (not real silver and gold - just plated). She told them they had sent the wrong colour and they told her to keep them and they would send the correct ones. So I struck lucky, they are lovely.

it is so annoying to lose one. I have lost a lovely earring, somewhere in the house. I know it will turn up eventually. Earrings are always an acceptable present for anyone who wears them. x

In the last year I have lost 3 ear-rings in the house[from different sets] very annoying.I favour studs more these days, certainly for during the day and have lots in different colours.I only wear [slightly] dangly in the evening for going out and also when I wear a dress.I think when you are young you can wear what you like, but pensioners in jeans and dangly er-rings isn't usually a good look.Just saying.

er -rings? ear -rings!

I have 2 expensive pairs [pearls and diamonds] and I hardly dare wear them.

I tend to wear either of 2 pairs of pearl studs, a black pearl pair and a very pale pink pair. I do have some short drops from Dower and Hall but only wear them occasionally.

I have a lovely set of pearl necklace and earrings from Dower and Hall, with blues and greys and a silver heart at the front. I feel guilty now, I haven't worn them recently.

I do not wear dangly earrings although I have a evening pair I wear on formal nights on cruise ships. My favourite pair of earrings are gold nuggets. Went to shop in South New Zealand in Yellowtown and the shop had gold nuggets that they make into earrings. You choose a pair of nuggets, they weigh them and tell you how much they cost. You put them back and get a lot smaller pair. These are then made into earrings.

I have always loved earrings and like petallus I feel that danglers don't look right with an old face. I do have single pearshaped pearl drop earrings which hang just under the earlobe and I wear them a lot.

I suffer from having had a mother who was very elegant and who said that plain elegant clothing and jewellery made the face look prettier by contrast and I have found this to be true. As I am like her in looks it works.

My favourites at the moment are plain gold or silver. just a simple ring through the ear, but not those decorated with diamond chips.

Danglers can look good on the right person but in my opinion not when worn with glasses.

Had a sudden vision of Dame Edna Everage then, Margaret! grin

I had my ears pierced once and the resulting allergic mess does not bear reconsidering. I left them to heal over.

I once met a lady who must have had a similar problem, as her ears looked as though a mouse had been nibbling on them!

And I am always a bit nervous when women wear big hoops, imagining them getting caught on something - ouch!

I am just a complete killjoy - but I think they look lovely on others and am very envious!

I have a pair of reversible earrings for pierced ears, they were purchased in Turkey. They are white gold on one side and yellow gold on the other. You put them in front to back for one colour and back to front for the other. The two sides then clip together forming a band round the ear.I find them so useful.I wear glasses and don't suit long dangly earrings.

I feel undressed without earrings. I do like like dangly ones, but not too dangly they get caught up! I wear studs for Pilates though and also if I'm wearing a chunky necklace - another of my 'likes'

granjura Wed 04-Jun-14 20:47:01

My mother thought it was 'very common' to hve ears pierced! I finally had them pierced when my best friend in Leicester said she would pay for it for my 35th BD- we went to an old fashioned jeweller on Church Gate together, and I said 'this woman wants my ears piercing' - he laughed and did the deed. I always were earrings, but very rarely dangly ones. I like quite chunky but simple silver ones- sometimes gold for special occasions.

janerowena Wed 04-Jun-14 23:41:07

My father thought the same. My sisters and I were all in our mid 20s when we finally did the deed, all together. We all said at the time that because of our father's brainwashing, we all felt as if we had lost our virginity all over again! You know - that slight guilt despite the pleasure. It was a revelation to no longer have pinched earlobes.

I'm not really stressed, just cross at the constant attempts to infiltrate the site, especially the way it's being done.

roses have a look at a couple of other threads , gel nails, beads & penguin jumpers and I think you will see what I mean!

janerowena Thu 12-Jun-14 11:26:39

Penguin jumpers? I take that as an insult against gransnetters' dress sense!

janerowena Thu 12-Jun-14 11:48:37

Oh! Jumpers FOR penguins. How cute!
