I'm a size 20/22 and 5'5" tall and, with a mid thigh top, I don't look like humpty dumpty! I may even go out in them!grin

One of my real-life friends has rebelled all of a sudden. She is just 63 and her husband has ruled what she has worn ever since they married - but he is now bedridden, since roughly a year ago. She bought a pair of dark leopardskin-print leggings, not cheap ones, and a long black jumper and wore them to do the housework in, but to please him she changed before she went out anywhere. Then for her birthday her daughter bought her a biker jacket - so went out for lunch with her wearing the whole ensemble! Her DH was livid, but there was nothing he could do about it. Apparently she teamed it with a pair of biker boots, heaven only knows when she acquired them. I bet she looked really good.

Every time I saw her, she would be in the sort of outfit that I remember my old teachers at school would be in - skirt and neat blouse or wide-legged trousers and sensible jumper. I thought she was much older than she is.

pomps I think that might be a good idea. grin

pompa Mon 06-Oct-14 12:39:49

The Miss Marple look was definitely NOT what I had in mind, I guess my descriptions are a bit off. I'll stick to DIY in future.

Riverwalk Mon 06-Oct-14 12:32:06

for the older woman a nicely tailored skirt takes a lot of beating confused

I don't think many of us go in for the Miss Marple look these days.

pompa Mon 06-Oct-14 11:51:13

To whom it may concern (or might vaguely be interested).

No way have I got the hump, I say and take everything in good heart, I like to wind conversations up, sometimes it backfires, and I get all I deserve. smile

As winter seems to have crashed in, leggings under trouser sounds a good idea.

Some of the views regarding mens dress sense reminds me of Onslow in Keeping up Appearances. Which whilst I have been recovering, has not been far off the target.

FWIW ethel, your post Sun 05-Oct-14 20:58:30 made me laugh - especially the bit ^ I also hate baggy jog bottoms in men, I don't like to see the outline of their sex organs wobbling to and fro.^ grin

If pompa didn't take offence, I wouldn't worry about it (can't say I saw anything much in ethel's posts to take hump about tbh).

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 06-Oct-14 11:10:11

Think you are being a bit silly about your sixtieth tbh. There are plenty of us on here who would love to have their sixties over again. I for one could still give grandsons a run for their money when playing football. Suddenly, can't hardly run at all. Enjoy your sixties. Great time of life.

(Don't get me wrong though. Seventies aren't that bad. So far.)

etheltbags1 Mon 06-Oct-14 11:04:30

Its peeing with rain here today and Im working in Newcastle, yuk, so im putting leggings on under my trousers.

etheltbags1 Mon 06-Oct-14 11:03:32

No Im not winding anyone up, I have said before that I appreciate the advice given in previous posts and I really don't have anyone to discuss things with (sometimes you cant discuss things with close family or friends).
I put my age as 60, knowing that in ..... days I will be 60 and it would be difficult to change, that's all.
thank you , those who said my photo is good, I picked the best of a bad bunch, my babies are beautiful though. both baby and cats.
Elegran if Ive huffed you Im sorry.

I guess that if I work hard this week and next I will have the dreaded 'date' over and done with. im scared of being old and ill and that's what I associate with getting older. Im also narked that the government has raised the retiring age, although Im not alone, I would have been retiring in the next week or so and claiming my OAP and maybe just working a couple of days a week.

Pittcity Mon 06-Oct-14 10:30:17

Dress, leggings, socks and boots today as it is raining and jeans are a b* to get dry!

I think babies have adorable feet grin

pompa Mon 06-Oct-14 10:16:40

I'll stick with socks, much cheaper than therapy.

kittylester Mon 06-Oct-14 10:10:43

I echo Ariadne's post, pompa.

I'm wearing my leggings today and I love them!! grin

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 06-Oct-14 09:43:32

"babies feet are pretty bad.......................... Discuss smile"

Therapy

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 06-Oct-14 09:41:27

(not purpledaffodil of course!)

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 06-Oct-14 09:40:51

patronising

Purpledaffodil Mon 06-Oct-14 09:40:08

Lucky you FlicketyB. Have tried to get Mr Purple into black jeans. But he is firmly wedded to chinos cos he says they are more comfortable. He has also taken to wearing sleeveless pullovers!! In fact he dresses like his father at the same age, with chinos substituted for cavalry twill slacks. Ah well it is his right I suppose sad

Ariadne Mon 06-Oct-14 09:34:05

pompa smile what a lovely man you are, to take that sort of flak and rise above it!

FlicketyB Mon 06-Oct-14 08:50:08

There are an awful lot of beige men in my area, often accompanied by beige women. DH lives in black jeans, T shirts or polo neck sweaters and fleeces, depending on the weather.

I think all of us, male and female, should be quite free to have opinions on how either sex dresses. I am dismissive of beige people and like to wear clothes with colour and pattern, today I am dressed in black and scarlet, but the many threads there have been from gransnetters looking for age appropriate (beige?) clothing shows that my likes and dislikes are not shared by everybody, or maybe anybody and why should they be?

pompa Mon 06-Oct-14 05:56:18

How I wish we could edit our own posts, that should have been flowers and hmm

pompa Mon 06-Oct-14 05:54:09

Good Morning ladies, one and all, I love every one of you. (flowers)

I do hope no one is taking my comments as insulting, sincere apologies if they are, They are purely my personal view, my DW does not agree with me and does own leggings. (hmm)

How I wish I was 60 again (my suit would not have been 10 years old then), not that it gets worn very often. I have a dark one for funerals etc. and a light one which I wear for weddings etc, and occasionally to go out. Mostly, if I wear a jacket it is a linen one.
Ties - very rarely, had to wear them every day when i worked, hate them, wi;; wear a bow tie sometimes with my linen jacket.
My everyday wear is Craghopper cotton trousers, short sleeve cotton shirt and trainers.
However, I get caught out, often head off to our local garden centre for stuff in my work shirt (yes the one with paint/holes, not egg stains though) plus an old pair of tatty Craghoppers, I then suggest to my DW that we have lunch at their excellent cafe, so I dine her in my very best clobber.

Socks with sandals, I just hate feet (close to a phobia), anyone's feet, especially my own, babies feet are pretty bad and it just gets worse as they get older, by my age - no way should they be seen. Discuss smile

Elegran Sun 05-Oct-14 23:40:46

No.The spice here is asafaoetida, not one of the tasty ones.

It is insulting to those posters who give sympathy for ethel's frequently expressed woes and then get blasted for insulting her.

There are more ways of being insulting than by calling people names.

Ana Sun 05-Oct-14 23:32:09

Although I take the point that it's unfair to take advantage of the good nature of those Gransnetters who have taken all your posts at face value, ethel.

Ana Sun 05-Oct-14 23:27:53

Well, why not? Adds a bit of spice...wink

Elegran Sun 05-Oct-14 23:21:39

Succeeding. I thought you said you were not going to do that any more?

Greenfinch Sun 05-Oct-14 23:12:32

Yes you do. You look a lot nicer than you "sound" in your postings. Are you just trying to wind people up ?
