I'm a size 20/22 and 5'5" tall and, with a mid thigh top, I don't look like humpty dumpty! I may even go out in them!grin

In a word NO
PLEASE don't wear them unless you have nice legs and are under 40, slim fitting trousers look much nicer

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 02-Oct-14 18:44:20

In your opinion ducks. hmm

Leggings are the greatest thing ever for updating a look but they must never be too thin for those aged over sixteen... M and S jeggings are good but the elastic waist should be covered as it is very cutty.....my favourite are by Oska but at £60 are they worth it? I would say yes as mine are going strong after six years and are beautifully soft...

I have been unwell with autoimmune problems for years and also find that leggings are easy to put on, unlike tights which I gave up years ago. I usually wear pumps as they give a neat look.

I also think layering looks good with leggings - longer top/shirt with shorter jumper/jacket/cardi....

Best advice my hairdresser gave me was to invest in chunky interesting jewellery. Mine is mostly silver and I have to say, it really does add interest.
And that is the key to looking good, I think - look interesting. Needless to say, a wardrobe of scarves is also good during the winter - particularly if you want to distract from the hips.

Long live leggings, I say. You are never too old or too young!

Ariadne have PM'd you! grin

Just shows we are all different..... I hate the leggings/jeggings look, to me it always looks Max Wall [especially if the legs are on the thin side.]

rosesarered Thu 02-Oct-14 20:56:26

Will someone please tell me what is the meaning of all the 'blue' legs and feet????

Ana Thu 02-Oct-14 20:59:20

Varicose veins.

rosesarered Thu 02-Oct-14 21:10:53

Ah! Thanks Ana that would explain it.Thought it was another fashion trend I had missed.

janerowena Thu 02-Oct-14 21:24:24

grin It could be? We could all go blue as a fashion statement. Blue wiggly tattoos - it could catch on. Then we won't notice when the real ones arrive.

RuthKJones Thu 02-Oct-14 21:31:24

Right! I've resisted leggings for years - thought I was too old - but reading all your posts I'm going to bite the bullet and have a trying on session at M&S tomorrow! I need a change - if I look a bugger I'll blame you lot!

missdeke Thu 02-Oct-14 23:06:01

I can't abide leggings, anything, absolutely ANYTHING, with an elasticated waist is a no-no as far as I am concerned, they are just so uncomfortable. I wish they would bring back pjs with tie waists!!!

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 02-Oct-14 23:24:43

You sound like my husband. hmm

NfkDumpling Fri 03-Oct-14 07:26:50

I bought a pair of navy legging this summer to go with a tunic DD1 bought me for my birthday. I was afraid I was a bit like mutton dressed as lamb, but you lot have reassured me.

Thank you!

I have worn leggings in the past but I'm going to try jeggings. If I'm right I think they are more of a fabric than a stretchy jersey, just slimmer on the legs than jeans. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

Marmight Fri 03-Oct-14 07:54:48

If, like me you are shortish and have beer bottle legs, I think these legging things should be avoided at all costs. If, like Marelli and others, you are tall and slim of leg, they are fine. I walked behind a woman yesterday who was wearing them; her a* * * was enormous and wobbled from side to side and her vpl was very visible! I think a reverse view mirror should be used before setting out thus attired blush.

Oldgreymare Fri 03-Oct-14 09:13:11

Marmight so true!
I can only try on leggings/jeggings/treggings when my bladder is empty otherwise I wet myself laughing at my 'image' in the mirror!
I also look like Russ Abbot's Flying Officer Kite in knee length shorts! My problem is 'sparrow-legs' from the knees down.
Maureen Lipman suggested checking the rear view many years ago when we all went mad for leotards/leggings and keep fit classes!

Mamie Fri 03-Oct-14 10:18:26

I think it is fine for anybody to wear anything they like as long as they feel comfortable. I never wear mustard yellow because I would look ghastly, but I wouldn't try and tell anyone else not too. I think rules about not wearing certain types of clthes over forty, sixty or ninety are ageist and patronising.

Mamie Fri 03-Oct-14 10:20:08

Clothes not clthes obviously. I hate the way the keyboard covers what I am writing on ios8.

constance Fri 03-Oct-14 10:22:30

My sister is 5'10 and rather voluptuous; leggings and long tops and tiny cardigans seem to be her wardrobe staples. She always looks very glam.

I tend to live in jeans and long tops - tried jeggings but felt claustrophobic. I quite like the sound of cord leggings - was that M&S?

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 03-Oct-14 10:24:06

sherish the jeggings I saw in Marks and Sparks were definitely more fabric-ish, but, I think perhaps, less bendy. More like extremely tight legged trousers. I'm going to have to have another look and perhaps try some. I am going to look in Next too as glamma suggests.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 03-Oct-14 10:26:15

Trouble with our Marks is, the stuff is spread out everywhere. I'm never sure if I've found everything. hmm

Elegran Fri 03-Oct-14 10:30:31

And by the time you have walked round the entire place, you can't remember where the things were that did look possible, and have to walk round again looking for them.

Asking for help is no use - you describe it and they say "Which range was it in?" No idea, there are so many ranges.

Riverwalk Fri 03-Oct-14 10:32:26

Jeggings are bendy jings but they are thicker than leggings and feel too tight for me - as though your legs have been bandaged.

leggings

I have these M&S leggings in grey and black - they have a seam and look quite smart with a long top. Only £15 and wash well.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 03-Oct-14 10:36:04

They look better. Don't think I saw those. Will have to have a look with daughter. She finds things that I swear are not there. hmm

gillybob Fri 03-Oct-14 10:39:41

I have just bought the most amazing pair of tartan leggings! They are
FAB-YOU-LUS

How brave am I? grin
