I'm a size 20/22 and 5'5" tall and, with a mid thigh top, I don't look like humpty dumpty! I may even go out in them!grin

janerowena Wed 01-Oct-14 14:18:42

I bought some dark teal jeggings from Sainsbury, stretch velvet ones that were quite a bit cheaper - but I have those M&S jeggings and they are fine. Really. In navy and black. I went for slightly longer ones in case my thighs took up all the stretch blush but I needn't have worried.

janerowena Wed 01-Oct-14 14:16:02

Phase eight ones are my favourite so far, only one pair and I am having to ration my wearings!

Soutra Wed 01-Oct-14 14:12:26

Stop pretending East also sells red onions! grin

kittylester Wed 01-Oct-14 13:59:28

Go on jings - if I can, anyone can. I'm trawling East etc for lovely tops now.

Is it worth spending a lot on leggings? Do they last longer? I'm on a roll!! grin

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 01-Oct-14 13:56:09

these would probably be bendy but I couldn't see them. (and I don't think I dare grin)

janerowena Wed 01-Oct-14 13:54:45

But they are stretchy jings! they are lovely. I live in leggings and jeggings and even treggings. Although I do love my jeans, on cold days I wear leggings under jeans. I Always have carried on wearing leggings as tights under long boots, even when they were hard to find and had to be bought in sports shops, because I was so sick of nice thick black winter tights always falling down around my hips. As for shoes - long or longish boots, or ballet flats, which look ok if you wear a pair of pop socks or something fine. I used to have some lovely silk socks.

I'm wearing dark grey leggings now, with a long pale grey broderie anglaise tunic over the top and a long navy cardigan and ballet pump slippers.

Old leggings become pyjama bottoms, they don't twist around and ride up and get into awkward places. They are so much more comfortable. And I am no skinny minny either, as long as I steer clear of the patterned ones (which stretch on your fattest places so show them up and emphasise them) I am fine. I just look as if I am wearing a dress over thick tights.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 01-Oct-14 13:54:03

No. Didn't try any on. I couldn't find many in there. Nothing like as many as they've got online.

BTW, wtflip are "treggings"? They had some of those.

Anya Wed 01-Oct-14 13:54:01

I'm a size 14 but daren't wear legging/jeggings as I think I look like Max Wall in them.

Coolgran65 Wed 01-Oct-14 13:44:55

Did you try on any. Different styles vary and they are very stretchy. They really do bend at the knees. smile

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 01-Oct-14 13:41:38

Well, I looked at jeggings in Marks and Sparks, but I thought no way would I be able to get my legs in them and bend at the knees. hmm

HollyDaze Wed 01-Oct-14 13:40:06

I always wear them in the colder weather as I also see them as being just like tights - but warmer and more comfortable (and they last longer!). I usually wear a sweater-dress with them and boots.

Coolgran65 Wed 01-Oct-14 12:52:13

I nearly always wear leggings or jeggings.
Always a long top - to mid thigh at least, sometimes a suitable dress to just above knee level.

If wearing flats/sandals with bare feet I always turn the leggings up to just above the ankle. To about 7/8 length. This takes away the Max Wall look. I cant wear the real 3/4 length jegging/legging because I have a 'blue' leg.

Never have to worry about picking the correct length of top/tunic out of the wardrobe because I don't buy anything unless it is well below hip level.

I do have a couple of beautiful dress up silky lightweight jacket/cardi shapes in various colours that end at the waist and they are worn over a suitable mid thigh top with ankle grazer trousers i.e. got a gorgeous pair of black jacquard ones from M and Co., they stop just above the ankle and will be worn with black suede pumps (with pop socks)

Gill go for it. A pair of leggings, or perhaps jeggings would be more suitable outdoors for the season. A shift shape tunic. Can also layer a long T under the tunic. Maybe also a cardi / waistcoat shape over the tunic. Play with layers.

soutra - I think I love you!! Thank you! flowers

I also bought a lovely white cotton blouse which was from the 'Denim edit' confused and a long grey top. I only went in for red onions! blush

Leggings and a tunic are just so so comfortable. I have a lightweight tunic (£4.99 charity shop) which I wore yesterday and DH and two lots of friends commented favourably on it. I think it made me look a bit slimmer as it has a v neck and three quarter sleeves. I have a more woolly tunic (£1 charity shop) which I will wear with leggings when it gets a bit colder.

inishowen Wed 01-Oct-14 12:35:41

I bought my first leggings this summer. I have good legs, but a fat tummy. I found they looked good worn with a long tunic from M&S. I'm looking forward to wearing them in winter with long sweaters.

jamsidedown Wed 01-Oct-14 12:30:33

I wear straight cut jeans from Fat Face, the goldilocks jeans, not too clingy, not too wide, just right. What's not to like? Don't know if I could be bothered with leggings/jeggings and length of top worries so still not convinced enough to buy some. smile

GillT57 Wed 01-Oct-14 12:20:03

If only I could get into a changing room under cover of darkness and try on a few outfits.....

Mamie Wed 01-Oct-14 11:51:47

I wear leggings and tunics as my winter uniform. No socks and flatties if warm enough or ankle boots if necessary. I like M and S jeggings and also Sainsbury's leggings and treggings. Lidl have started selling leggings too and the quality is good.

GillT57 Wed 01-Oct-14 11:38:03

Hmm maybe should get some......I am on the chunky side, size 18 ish but quite tall, so perhaps the layered look with boots and long tunic top. I do need a change of style.

etheltbags1 Wed 01-Oct-14 11:25:20

Ive worn leggings since they were invented, I was at one point 16 stone and always wore them with a long top. Im much slimmer now but still like them I only have one dress and would never wear tights so its leggings all the time. In winter, working out of doors I wear leggings under a pair of loose fitting trousers.

You used to be able to buy footless tights, made of something like 30 denier, just like leggings but much thinner and I like those with a dress but I cant get them nowadays.

I detest tights and just wear them if I have to look more formal in a skirt and wear 60 denier plus.
I use old leggings for bed in winter under a t shirt style nightie. You will never get me out of my leggings, Asda 2 pair for £10.00 or £6.00 each.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 01-Oct-14 11:25:11

Right! I'm off to m and s to buy a pair. Weather is supposed to go downhill later in the week.

They will look ok with my bright red FitFlops laceups I bought on eBay, won't they? smile

Soutra Wed 01-Oct-14 11:24:34

kitty I have met you and no way did I think you were a size 20!!
However....... it is all coming out now, first the leggings, then the brown ankle boots, come on, own up, what else did you buy?

gillybob Wed 01-Oct-14 11:15:54

Whatever you do Kittylester, don't tell Absent !

Glassortwo and I once went for a lovely meal with her and the subject of clothes and leggings came up. Absent said something on the lines of "leggings are awful and should only be worn by small children" at which point we just looked at each other blush.

I love jeggings alternativegran they are a very comfortable in-between.

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Wed 01-Oct-14 11:14:42

We quite like an M&S jegging though we must confess. Gigi and I have taken to wearing them as our GNHQ uniform.

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Wed 01-Oct-14 11:09:47

Consensus (after much debate on this) at GNHQ - leggings are great if you wear them as tights-without-feet. Leggings worn as trousers (ie with tops that sit above the hips) are a no-no #understatement
