This question has just been put to the listeners on Woman's Hour.

I wondered what you were all wearing.

As we are shortly off to see the CG for 2 days then moving onto the New Forest for a week I am dressed in what I would describe as smart casual.

Nice grey/black/silver striped sweater with a slightly nautical feel.
Light grey woolly cotton jacket embellished with an Art Deco style brooch
Dark Grey comfy trousers from M & S - good for the journey.
Purple suede and leather flat shoes from Hotter, can't wear heels now.

Admittedly I am not a fashion icon because comfort is my aim.

Having spent a few hours with my two young boys I will be looking as if I have been dragged through a hedge backwards, as my mother used to say. grin

Have a good time, Greenfinch

Denim jeggings, a pretty floral tunic dress over them, little cashmere cardi. I do like it when I can start to get rid of the layers. I shall change into gardening rags this afternoon, though. I had a frazzled friend and her baby GC round earlier for a quick coffee, hence looking reasonable this morning.

Going to the bluebells wood with grandson, 2 years old & husband, 72 years old. It's his birthday today (husband). So, my "smart" blue jeans with a light blue top and a light blue raincoat! My daughter & I are planning a race in the wood, between granddad & grandson ;-).

This is a bit "off-piste" but I have bought a bright red dress and was pondering on the old saying; red ................... no knickers. Was it hat or dress!

Soutra Sat 09-May-15 10:02:55

In Scotland it used to be said of Edinburgh, "A' fur coat and nae knickers"!

pompa Sat 09-May-15 10:26:38

I always thought it was Red Shoes - lifelong investigation continues grin

Back into the "winter woolies" again. It is so cold this morning that we put our heating on. We try to leave it off after the first of May, this year it's not happening. I need some warmth on my bones.

Greenfinch Sat 09-May-15 11:33:30

I always though it was Red Hat !!
Thanks rosequartz. We had a brilliant time. Our photo is somewhere on the site.

Black joggers and black fleece.

Fur coat and no knickers. Like the cottage I was in last week. All show but not great on substance. hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 09-May-15 11:47:31

(that's not what I'm wearing)

janerowena Sat 09-May-15 11:57:11

Skinny blue jeans, elderly brown cashmere tunic over a blue vest top. It's a bit grey outside today, rain might stop the gardening plans.

Soutra Sat 09-May-15 12:05:29

Olive/khaki linen trousers, olive green T shirt, that oversized white baggy jumper (again) over it. And, this time, green necklace .
Bit of Waitrose then making a couple of puds to take to DDs tomorrow, DGS's 5th birthday on Tueday!

Cut off jeggings and a navy and white sun top. The jeggings are literally cut off below the knee from an old pair last year. Lovely and comfortable.
Later I shall change the top back to the deep pink polo shirt I started off in.

I always thought it was Red Hat as well! Although I've heard the fur coat one too.grin
I've seen the photo Greenfinch. You all look as if you are having a great time. Shame I couldn't join you.

Burgundy cord ankle grazers and multi burg pink taupe long top with burg long cardi. Taupe scarf and burg suede pumps. Brown leather satchel. Was out for late breakfast, then grocery shopping, followed by visit to sis in law where we always have great craic on a Saturday afternoon.

tanith Sat 09-May-15 20:12:04

Blue skinny jeans and 3/4 sleeve paisley top with a lace panel at the shoulders, peep toe denim flatties.. just grocery shopping and drive out with OH for a bit of a walk near Black Park.. nothing special.

A skirt, floral pattern in turquoise, lime green and white, on a black background, and a turquoise top, bronze sandals and cross body bag, oatmeal coloured fleece jacket cos it was a bit cold and windy up town.

When I worked as a Saturday girl in a department store, I learned the saying from the girls in the millinery department "Red hat, no drawers". I think the thing about "fur coat, no drawers" is more sinister.

Being a working girl still, I have to dress fairly reasonably most days. I always wear a pair of plain trousers, a top, and a jacket, blazer, or something loose over the top to disguise my "spare tyres". Patterns and prints I avoid at all costs - especially next to my face - and I don't possess any jewellery - can't bear the thought of metal on my skin.

Today's colour spectrum is black (trousers) , olive (sleeveless top) and natural linen (I won't say beige!). The last is actually patterned, but very discreetly with tone-in-tone, off-white and fawn. I bought it to support a friend who ran a shop selling clothes in natural fibres.

Another favourite colour spectrum is pinks, mauves and puces, or a mixture of light and royal blues. In the winter a variety of browns.

Today I am in black below knee legging an old shirt and flipflops , not going out and have laundry on the go and floors to wash..

I might change in the shorts and t-shirt if the sun comes out, its very warm but overcast at the moment..

janerowena Mon 11-May-15 14:21:14

Almost identical to you, tanith. It's over 20C here. Just summoning the energy to tie in some climbing roses on the pergola. Load 2 of laundry is waiting by the back door while I idle away on here.

A skirt patterned in pink, red and grey floral on a black background, with a deep salmony pink top, bronze sandals.

Skinny denim jeans, white shirt, navy cropped blazer and tan loafers. Out shopping today for GD's 6th birthday tomorrow. Got a few Frozen items as requested plus a soundtrack from the film for tomorrow's party.

The best part of the day was buying her some new clothes, easier to shop for her than it is for myself!

Agus Tue 12-May-15 00:04:25

Just realised it's past midnight. It's her birthday today.

glammanana Tue 12-May-15 09:48:54

Black jeggings to-day with a black baggy top I have jazzed it up with a bright scarf tied loosely 3 times around my neck,I'm off to charity shop job this afternoon so don't go to mad with dressing as you can be sure with me being the youngest volunteer I will get all the jobs which mean climbing up on shelves to find stuff. hmm

Soutra Tue 12-May-15 10:33:35

Today I am (so far) wearing a green bath towel, one step on from the pj's having spent the last 2 hours fielding and making phone calls as DH is again in hospital with low haemoglobin having blood transfusions.
Hope to graduate to clothes very soon.
