Front fastening bras

Can anyone tell me where i can buy a front fastening bra that isn't (a) expensive (b) maternity or (c) white and frumpy. I have scanned the major stores and even the internet, but haven't been able to find anything that doesn't come into these categories. I may be getting on in years, but still like pretty, feminine underwear !

I am a bra twizzler and always have been. I cannot understand why anyone bothers to try and do it up at the back.
However the way my thumb joints are going fastening it at all may become difficult.

Most serious lycra cycling bottoms have gel pads in the appropriate places (for comfort, not the look)

(Couldn't discern any padding!)

Thank you Loopy - I followed one chap the other day wearing pale lime green legs. Rather stretched and transparent. Most disconcerting and distracting! shock blush

I have it on good authority NfkDumpling that they have chamois-lined and padded Lycra shorts. DS does triathlons (for fun hmm), and says that is how they prevent ending up with very squeaky voices!

If the blokes are getting details of bras holding us together, would it be in order to ask how Lycra clad men on racing bikes manage? They don't seem to wear any underwear and those bike saddles are so thin!

Because the ones that don't are usually either nursing bras or designed/meant for women who find it difficult to cope with back-fastening ones.

Is that enough information for you men, or would you like a diagram? grin

grumppa Sun 17-May-15 22:42:34

That sounds convincing, so why don't all bras do up at the back?

FlicketyB Sun 17-May-15 22:28:59

I suspect it has got something to do with the geometrical arrangement of breast and cup. Most bras have adjustable fastenings at the back with a choice of three sets of hooks. If you had that at the front, depending on your fastening choice the cups would move towards the arms or close up, while presumable your bosom would be unmoved. That would affect fit and profile at the front.

A relic of the old stays that were laced up at the back?

NfkDumpling Sun 17-May-15 06:21:08

Goodness knows Grumppa. Designed by a man? wink

Fools rush in, etc. But why don't all bras do up at the front?

Deedaa Sat 16-May-15 21:23:08

When I was reasonably mobile I never found it a problem roses but the frozen shoulder has definitely put and end to the contortions!

Deeda, I thought everyone put on a bra like that.... The twizzle!I thought it was only in films because it looks rather sexy for a woman to put on a bra by fastening it at the back? Not sure I would believe anyone who said they did it that way, why do things the hard way?

Deedaa Fri 15-May-15 22:41:00

After about six years with a frozen shoulder I've got used to doing my bra up and twizzling it round. When I mentioned it to a friend recently she said "But I've always done it like that"

Ana Fri 15-May-15 18:58:55

My bra size is 34D. Even allowing for a bit of stretch in the fabric, there's no way I could pull it up over my bum! grin

loopylou Fri 15-May-15 18:56:51

grin annodomini
I'm still trying not to giggle at the thought of trying to do it up, step into it and pull it all the way up!
I have a horrible feeling that I'd either fall over or get it stuck over my bum (wear it back to front, bum lift?) or end up calling the fire brigade to rescue me!

I kept looking at it and wondering - why? Why on earth would any normal pasty-complexioned british female think that it would be at all flattering? I think though that underwear is almost now outerwear, especially in the summer.

EGNAN Fri 15-May-15 18:15:26

Thank you everyone. I have been 'twizzling' for years - but the problem, now that I'm getting a bit rheumatic, is not putting it on, but undoing the damned thing to get it off (though i must admit i haven't tried twizzling to undo it - perhaps i should). Many, many years ago, it was quite easy to get a front loader, but no more. However, thank you jo1book, i will look for Isla & Angelcitiz on Ebay - after all this time researching, 2 weeks wont be too long to wait.
Interesting how the subject has turned to hi-viz underwear though - now there's a thought!

loopylou Fri 15-May-15 17:43:17

Never had the need for hi-viz undies and nightclothes grin!

Might be useful as overwear if you're a cyclist or runner!

loopylou Fri 15-May-15 17:41:44

Migraine-inducing colours janer hmm

Certainly not for me! M&S isn't much better.....

Ariadne Fri 15-May-15 16:58:30

off to look...smile

janerowena Fri 15-May-15 16:53:20

I have ordered a La Isla bra! They look rather nice.

I had a quick look at the Sainsbury's ones while I was out shopping - Dayglo anyone? I felt like looking for my dark glasses. Neon pinks, oranges, reds and greens for underwear and nightwear.

I think not. hmm

well I tried it , I was in pjs till after lunch and had my shower got the offending garment and fastened it at the front , no it wouldn't move , it got lost in the spare tyres and at one stage I was reaching for the scissors , but I did get it off and tried the fasten and step in ......... nope ........... stepped out , by this time I needed another shower . So it was fall into it and reach round the back , sitting here exhausted
