See-through white Summer trousers

I just bought a pair of nice casual Summer trousers in white but they are quite see-through.

I am alternating between thinking I am being old fashioned not wanting everyone to see my knickers (and recent hip replacement scar grin) and knowing I will avoid putting them on because I can't help being modest. I am wondering if I should take them back to the shop.

What do others think?

I have a couple of pairs and found that grey underwear (which I used to buy often from M&S) doesn't show through. I always hold them up to the light before I buy them, I hate thin white trousers! If I can see clearly, I won't have them. I do usually wear quite long tops with them though. I've always been careful, ever since wearing a thin white very flared skirt to work and a colleague warned me that flared and thin was fine when I stood still, but as soon as I moved every outline could be seen! I went out at lunchtime and bought a slip.

John Lewis and M & S were heaving with them when I was in there this afternoon.

Are they? Where? Not round here they're not! grin

(Too flaming cold for one thing...)

They went back a couple of days ago jeanie99

Actually, you are right about the pockets and turnings. The trousers in question had big patch pockets back and front and so the trousers looked thicker in some places than others (not good).

I see white trousers are all the rage at the moment.

I would never buy white see thru thin trousers, you not only see pants but pockets and turnings.

Light coloured thick jeans are OK.

Take them back you will never feel comfortable wearing them.

Pale pinks and greys seem to drain any colour from me. I can wear black and taupe or camel and stronger colours.
I like strong pinks and bright colours, with black or navy (but then perhaps others see me differently and think I shouldn't wear them hmm)

Thank you rosesarered

I'm trying not to wear so much black too.

rosesarered Sun 24-May-15 17:46:26

You probably look fine, loopy,I think it has to do with slimness and also skin tone.White needs a slim figure and also a bit of a tan to look really good.I never wear white at all now, as size 12 ( and 14!) are a thing of the past for me.I don't think cream looks all that good either, and refuse to wear any beige, apart from undies!Am fair skinned, so bright colours ( ultra bright) can't be worn either. For me, pale pinks, light grey,Aqua, most shades of blue and most shades of green look the best.I don't wear black anymore either, but black/white patterns seem to look good.

Bowlers are obliged to wear white on matches, and I have found that the trousers are very see-through. (there was an occasion when the lacy panties worn by an unsuspecting lady cause some amusement among the men - not sure if she was embarrassed or knew she would create a stir!). I always wear a white skirt. Cooler in the summer anyway.

loopylou Sun 24-May-15 17:34:36

I wear white jeans and skirts with a bright coloured top, I guess it depends on the style? Or am I kidding myself I look ok hmm confused

annodomini Sun 24-May-15 17:31:31

Someone who had trained as a colour consultant told me that white is rather ageing. hmm She recommended cream instead. I have several white shirts that I wear over tee shirts for sun protection. My last pair of white jeans just looked grubby half the time. A white skirt I once had made me look like Moby Dick.

Why is it I see fabulous women all dressed in white but when I wear white I look like a 'BLOB'... so not fair.

Soutra Sun 24-May-15 16:33:55

There was a time when I used to wear (expensive, thank you DH) bright coloured bras so it didn't matter if the odd bra strap showed. I remember watching a TV show and recognising the bra the main actress was wearing from the multicoloured strap! I felt very flattered that she or the designer shared my taste as she was much more glam than me!

loopylou Sun 24-May-15 16:19:35

I didn't mean that my bra is obvious rather that not wearing one doesn't bear thinking about grin

I do have nude bras just not one specifically for wearing under tee shirts.

rubysong Sun 24-May-15 15:48:27

I think white linen trousers are great in the summer. I have a couple of pairs of 'nude' knickers I keep just to wear with them, also 'nude' bra to wear with white t shirts. I don't like to see underwear of any colour showing through.

loopylou Sat 23-May-15 20:06:18

grin
I hope it is noticeable I'm wearing a bra, or all that effort trying to find the right bra will be for nothing!

Ana Sat 23-May-15 19:47:57

roses, I think some ladies of a certain age actually think wearing skin-toned underwear is not quite respectable - they want to it to be obvious that they have actually got a bra on! grin

loopylou Sat 23-May-15 19:43:44

I knew but seldom remember!

I suppose a 'tee shirt' bra would be good too, my nude bras are very lacy so might not be ok under a thin tee shirt hmm

This wearing white clothes lark isn't easy is it!

rosesarered Sat 23-May-15 19:35:27

I thought everyone knew about wearing nude colour bra under a white top Roseq?Obviously not.

rosesarered Sat 23-May-15 19:34:25

Soutra, you can call me 'my dear' anytime you like, it's nice to feel younger!

whitewave Sat 23-May-15 18:57:00

Have always worn white trousers/ capri pants in the summer particularly if I am going somewhere hot. Most are lined but I don't worry about those that aren't just wear respectable white knickers grin. DH has never commentated but he probably has never noticed.

petallus Sat 23-May-15 18:55:07

Soutra I didn't feel patronised at all smile.

J52 Sat 23-May-15 18:27:05

Rather than the term 'beige' skin tone?

On the subject, but slightly off it, there seems to be a fashion for black bras under white shirts? I've even seen it on T.V! grin x

Soutra Sat 23-May-15 18:14:42

Didn't mean to sound patronising!blush

loopylou Sat 23-May-15 13:03:09

Rather passion killers than visible thongs IMO, let alone black knickers under white trousers as seen yesterday in Sainsburys!

I like lacy undies too but not on public display blush
