Evening all.

As I usually wear open toed Birkenstoks (sp?) this time of year, I always have painted toe nails, usually either a peach colour, or a sort of toffee brown, or (if I'm wearing certain shoes) a Rimmel polish called "Double Decker" (no prizes for guessing the colour of that one!)

I went completely mad today and bought (and applied) a matt polish by Rimmel that I can't now find the name of confused I love it!

It is a sort of turquoise colour, and matches exactly some of the stones in a necklace that I sometimes wear to offset a black top.

OK, It may seem that I'm waffling, (which I am) but this is my first venture into the world of green/blue nail polish, when I first saw it years ago on a work colleague, I thought it looked bleurgh!

well am investigating all sorts of colours that I wouldn't have looked at a few years or so ago and not necessarily on my toes or though they are sporting bright orange at the moment, with green eyes just discovered behind the glasses worn since 8 months old purple and shades of look good and silver /pale blue colours all previously avoided,I love bright strong colours, but always seem to pick autumn shades love sludgy khaki/green and rusty autumn shades.
Am waffling also but this might be due to a slight indulgence from a dark green bottle at the moment.I don't look good with the green /blus shades of nail polish.....skin tone similar to corned beefsad

The checkout girl in Home Bargains today was wearing gabardine grey nail varnish. It looked awful! (to me)

Love, strong pastel colours. I have blue nails today. I have teal and mauve polish too.

Anne58 Wed 12-Aug-15 21:13:58

Ah, now, you see, Luckygirl, as I think I have posted before, MR P usuallly does my toenails ,partly due to ease of access.
However, I have managed all by myself today grin (had to, he is away until Friday evening sad ) and it CAN BE DONE !

I won't try to describe the whole process, but it involves sitting on the floor, a certain amountof flexion of the hip/pelvic joint, a judiciously positioned cushion, and a glass of wine.(Optional, but reccommended)

Sort of seriously, I did find it easier sitting on the floor!

All my nail varnishes are ones that have been free with magazines. Mainly by Nails Inc. and mainly in sludge colours.

I first( and last) wore pale blue nail polish when I was about 20 and was told by a few people that it looked as if I had heart problems! put me off it forever.

Why is it so hard to do polish on toenails? I just put foot up on the side of the bath, it's easy that way.

ninathenana Thu 13-Aug-15 00:13:33

Not all of us are able to assume that position rosesarered grin

I've got a pair of pale grey open toed sandals and a while ago my daughter painted my toenails to match the shoes. I got so many compliments that day, I was walking on air smile.

I'm lucky with my feet, I have small feet and straight toes. My family say I have "mice feet" grin

I also paint toe nails with one foot on the edge of the bath.

hildajenniJ Thu 13-Aug-15 08:18:17

I never paint my nails. Once, in my youth I bought clear nail polish, I hated the feel of it on my fingers, and vowed never to do it again!

Anya Thu 13-Aug-15 11:09:54

My toenails are a very conventional pink this week. Last week the big toe was navy blue, then working towards the little toe, turquoise, pale green, purple then finally shocking pink.
Rainbow toes as GD2 put it. I loved that look blush

Ana Thu 13-Aug-15 11:12:27

hildaj, I'm the same. It feels as though my fingernails can't breathe with polish on!

Maggiemaybe Thu 13-Aug-15 12:02:50

I had a black polish way back in the 70s, and even though I wasn't keen on the finished effect I used it a lot on principle once a friend told me that her boyfriend would never allow her to wear it! shock

I always feel a bit unfinished without nail varnish on fingers and toes, but since I retired I find I haven't as much time for titivating and standards are slipping. How did I ever find the time to work, etc, etc....

I like my fingernails, but I have horrible feet.

tanith Thu 13-Aug-15 12:32:46

I'm not very adventurous with nail coloours and blue is not a good look on me but I too have trouble with doing my toes, I got OH to do it once, not a good look.. its my hips and stiff knees that prevent me turning my foot to a good angle so I sit on my bed with my foot up on the radiator and stretch A LOT grin the left foot is easier than the right but I manage it just.. only do them in the Summer though as I'm permanently bare foot or in sandals/flipflops.

shysal Thu 13-Aug-15 13:03:01

I can reach my toes, but I can't get close enough to see clearly with my reading glasses! Another problem is that all but the big toe nail are tiny, and the nail polish brushes seem to be wider these days. The result is often a mess, so I rarely bother.

RuugBeee Thu 13-Aug-15 13:24:54

Loved seeing blue polish on DD's toenails - so tried it out on mine, BUT did not like the way it emphasises blue veins on old feet!! See corned beef post earlier!

- think it only looks good on younger skin, beautifully tanned!

Margsus Thu 13-Aug-15 13:47:56

I can reach my toenails easily if I sit on the bed with my feet on the dressing table stool, which is the same height,, but not if I sit on the stool with my feet on the bed - go figure!

rosesarered Thu 13-Aug-15 14:12:26

Ana, you do know that nails don't have lungs, right?grin

nanakate Thu 13-Aug-15 14:21:18

I am a great fan of bidets and can't understand why they have never caught on in the UK. It's quite comfortable to sit on the toilet seat with your feet on the edge of the bidet to do your toenails!

I've just discovered Barry M sunset nail polish - you really and truly do get a gel finish and it lasts for ages on both my toe and finger nails - I've got coral, red and turquoise (they are often in special offer at Boots grin). You put on two thin coats - the first fries almost immediately, the second I put on just before I go to bed so it has all night to dry properly. Then you put on the sunset topcoat - it cures in the UV in daylight and is dry/cured and very shiny in less than a minute. You can also remove with normal nail varnish remover (unlike gel/shellac nails that have a right palaver to get them off!). I LOVE it and it makes me feel like I've made an effort blush
