Errm, how do I get it off?

That lilac sparkly nail varnish that I put on my toes on Friday?

When I started applying it, it went on as a sort of colourless thing, with a few sparkly bits. Mr suggested that rather than paint coats on, I sort of "dabbed" it to get enough coverage.

We both agreed that the end result looked ok, but that it might be an idea in future to buy a lilac coloured ordinary one, and use the sparkly as a top coat.

Tomorrow I am planning to wear a burnt orange cotton overshirt, with some sort of silky fabric taupe coloured (oh alright beigeish) blush cargoes, and thought the orange nail polish would look better.

I am using an acetone free polish remover, and so far it hasn't touched it!

Short of actually filling a bowl and dunking my toes (impossible, I haven't got enough, remover that is, not toes) or taking some sort of sander to my toe nails) I am stuck.

I think in the short term I may just have to paint over, but the build up could be a problem!

Thanks Phoenix, I bought some of the Sally Hanson in Tesco today, so will be using the sparkly stuff again( it was a bit panicky when it took so long!)but it does look pretty, just a bit of it over a coloured varnish.Pretty toes are important all year round!

I can't remember ever having bought the polish Envious. I only paint my toenails (finger nails are not worthy of being adorned!) so tend to just buy Rimmel, Maybelline etc.

Envious Thu 10-Sept-15 22:44:58

Does anyone's have a problem with Sally Hanson polish? I've tried several bottles over the years and was always disappointed. Seem to go on streaky and always smudge and chip. I don't bother to try it anymore.

roses I bought Sally Hansen Strengthening Polish Remover, unlike my other one this does contain Acetone, but also "Pro vitamin B5, & Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein" (apparently) hmm

Surprised it doesn't also say "Fragranced with Fairy Farts" but I suppose there is a limit as to how far you can go before falling foul of Trading Standards.

Just had the same problem as you Phoenix, I had put pale pink polish on toenails followed by dabbed on sparkly bits. looked great all week.Came to take it off and it took ages and tons of cotton wool and remover. perhaps I need the other kind of remover, will have to buy some.

Love the idea of gunmetal grey smile

Anne58 Wed 09-Sept-15 22:03:52

grin

I had a gunmetal grey big toe when I dropped a tin of beans on it from a great height. The only iridescent bits I had were the stars I was seeing in my eyes!

Anne58 Wed 09-Sept-15 18:21:59

Right, went shopping today and bought nail varnish remover with acetone in it!

Have just removed the bright orange (and the residue of the glittery lilac that lurked beneath) and have now applied another new colour, also glittery but this one seems to have more base coverage, therefore no need to "dab" such a thick layer to get the effect.

Not too sure about the colour though, Rimmel Precious Stones range, Diamond Dust. hmm

Sort of gunmetal grey with iridescent bits in.

Perhaps a step too far.......

Crafting a hint of Helena Bonham-Carter going on there grin

Go with one foot orange and the other lilac. Say it's the latest fashion and brazen it out grin

annodomini Tue 08-Sept-15 09:52:36

Perhaps you could raid the shed for some turps, phoenix.

Anne58 Tue 08-Sept-15 08:20:41

I only used 1 chemical, honest!

Nelliemoser Tue 08-Sept-15 08:12:39

Phoenix After all these chemicals are you sure you still have 10 toes?

Anne58 Tue 08-Sept-15 07:42:26

Well, Luckygirl I have to when Mr P's not here.

Luckygirl Tue 08-Sept-15 01:27:50

Definitely think a pair of trainers is what you need.

At least you can reach your toenails - think positive!!

Sort of a time management thing, Ana .....ish....

Ana Mon 07-Sept-15 20:26:04

phoenix, I'm amazed! You couldn't wait to apply the orange polish until you'd removed the lilac from the other foot...I just couldn't do that grin

Anne58 Mon 07-Sept-15 20:22:48

Thanks for the advice, all!

Unfortunately the only remover I have is acetone free.

Alea & midgey I am sticking with my Birkenstocks for as long as possible! grin

midgey Mon 07-Sept-15 20:15:25

I was going to suggest some socks!

Alea Mon 07-Sept-15 20:13:33

Opaque tights and Ugg boots would be my advice grin

Anne58 Mon 07-Sept-15 20:13:14

Would gladly try them if i had them, shysal am now working away at the left foot.

Rather committed now, as the right foot is now orange (the nails that is, not the actual foot)

suzied Mon 07-Sept-15 20:12:21

Use acetone nail polish on a cotton wool pad and put over nail , wrap up nail and cotton wool pad in a square of kitchen foil and leave for 5 -10 mins. Should be able to be scraped off easily.

shysal Mon 07-Sept-15 20:08:45

I have had similar problems with sparkly nail polish. I find the Quickie remover pads work best, although they are rather oily.
