Shameful nail biting

I bite the bits around my nails too. More so when I'm stressed. Childhood nail biting had the good effect of strengthening them so now they are long and strong. I have them painted with acrylic, think that's different from gel, Alea, as I don't gave them infilled but I would have a job removing the polish myself. Btw I like the colour of yours. Antjexix if you say you stop for a few days, maybe at that point you could apply some polish and perhaps you'd be less likely to bite them. It's difficult to break a lifelong habit, so I do sympathise.

My present gels 3 weeks in,normally I cannot grow my nails because they split and peel as soon as they grow beyond the nail bed.

Listen Antjexix there is nothing to be ashamed of! You are an adult and even if you wish you didn't do it, SHAME needn't come into it.

Gel nails (which are not the same as false nails) would give your nail 3-4 weeks complete protection so a chance to grow beyond the quick. After 3-4 weeks you can go for "infill" which will give you another 3-4 weeks by the end of which you may find that you have kicked the habit and enjoyed the feeling of flashing your classy nails instead of sitting on your hands.
Good luck!

I bite mine too sadly.Worse if I am worried or stressed. Sometimes I do it on long car journeys when I am driving by myself. Gloves may help.

I mainly bite them when watching tv,not that I watch anything scary that warrants me biting my nails, but I might keep a buffer, nail file and handcream on my coffe table. That might encourage me to look after them rather than destroying them.hmm

Instead of biting them how about buffing your nails? You can buy Carnate (?) buffing polish and a buffer and I found it quite addictive. You will stimulate nail growth as well as have lovely shiny nails. Rub plenty of hand cream in too.

I used to bite my nails right down to the quick when I was young and I worried terribly about how awful my hands would look on my wedding day blush. But then, as the big day got nearer I suddenly realised one day that my nails were growing! I hadn't been aware that I'd stopped biting them, and on the day itself I had beautiful long nails which I painted in a pearlescent white nail varnish. I was so proud of them.
I've never bitten my nails since, but instead I pick at the cuticles and the surrounding skin, sometimes so badly they bleed, and my hands never look nice. So I do sympathise Antjexix, and have no suggestions how to stop I'm afraid sad

I get so annoyed with myself.

I pick the cuticle skin around my nails Antjexix rather than the nails and sometimes they look disgusting but I do manage to stop by wearing cotton gloves when I'm just sitting doing nothing indoors and once they are healed I can stop for a while. It always comes back but at least when I know I'm going on holidays or have a special occasion I can stop for a while.

I have been biting my fingernails since I was a child and just can't stop. I have tried allsorts with no success. It is such a disgusting habit and I am ashamed showing my hands in public. I have no worries in my life ( no more than other people) . Sometimes I stop for a few days, apply cuticule cream ect. but then start picking again. Help!!!
