I find foundation is too beigy for me really. Does anyone use one with a more pink tone? Also what blusher do you recommend again I have at least discovered I look better with a pink one rather than a peach.

Why don't you go to a makeup counter in John Lewis and ask for advice overthe hill?
The girls are usually very knowledgeable.
I like Bobbi Brown stuff but the foundation I'm using at the moment is a Laura Mercier one.

I use Estée Lauder Double Wear foundation and said to the consultant that I wanted a shade with a pink base and not a yellow base. I have now been wearing Pale Almond for over a year and love it.

My blusher is by Bourjois and it is a cream that turns into powder when applied in Cream Blush 03.

I don't know your colouring Overthehill but I have always had fair hair and skin.

The make up consultants can tell you if their products are pink or yellow based.

Best of luck.

I use no7 intelligent colour, it blends to your skin tone and comes in light medium and dark.
I also use BB cream under the foundation, it comes in the same as above.
Boots do a colour match service.

The no7 blusher in Damson is more of pink tone

I use Rimmel Match Perfection Ivory and Liz Earle cream blush Coral.

I used to use a Clarins Face Tint a few years ago and it was perfect but they discontinued it. It's so annoying when they do that.

I wish it was possible to buy small tubes of foundation to try out. I can't count the number of times I've bought an expensive foundation but have found that I don't really like it. I know sometimes a department store offers free samples but not routinely.

Yes go to your nearest large department store or large boots where they will give you a makeover, and try lots of different shades on you. I use Lancôme foundation which is lovely, but I do like to try others out. They will give you free samples of various products as well. Sometimes you can book a session with a makeup artist for a small fee, which you get back if you buy any products.

I've got an old grey porridge face with an increasing amount of thread veins, I need coverage but dislike a caked on powdery look. I quite like using a wee bit false tan , it seems to give me a healthy glow , but it's now bringing me out in spots ! Any hypo allergenic false tan on the market ?

I use Maybelline dream satin liquid foundation. They have various shades. Someone asked me recently what I used as it looked 'lovely'. Her words not mine!

I absolutely love Bare Minerals powder makeup. I have quite a dull complexion but I look like I've had ample beauty sleep after I put that stuff on! If I do say so myself confused

Thank you all for your suggestions. The overall thought is go to the beauty dept. and let them loose on you.

I am a bit wary, as when my daughter got married she had a trial makeup session and I excitedly got myself done as well. I have to say I was horrified with the result, I looked like a right old slapper. Daughter looked lovely I have to say. This was nearly ten years ago now, so what they have to work with is going to be worse now then back then.

Yes, I'd choose your store carefully, overthehill - I find some of those painted ladies a bit much! At least you can see what sort of job they're going to do on your face by checking what they've made of their own.

I can recommend Avon's Magix Cashmere foundation, which blends in really well, and a cream foundation is always kinder than a powder one.

I know what you mean about needing a pinker shade, I started to think I look like death warmed up a year or so ago, although I look ok in the summer.

I did feel for my sister, she is beautiful but for her daughter's wedding the makeup artist used a foundation that made her skin look almost pale green, it was so yellow. It was meant to have given her a lightly-tanned look. I can see why she went wrong, as my sister does have a slight yellow tint to her skin, but it needed counteracting, not deepening. It looked dreadful in daylight but brilliant in photos.

My latest and best one to date is Dior Star Longwear 021 as I need some pink otherwise I start to look orange and a Clarins Cream Blusher 04 Rosewood is a lovely delicate pink. Both 'stay' beautifully and wash off easily with No 7 Beautiful Skin and a muslin cloth.

Any ideas to conceal/fill the lines over the top of lips? These look even worse now I've removed my moustache!

annsixty Wed 30-Dec-15 15:28:16

There is one that acts as a filler and I think it is Vichy. My GD was born with a cleft lip and now at 17 she is really into makeup and she was recommended this but I will have to ask her this evening. She didn't buy it as she has a consultation booked with a make up artist funded by the good old NHS
