Hair on my chinnychinchin

Recently I've had a very annoying and prickly hair pop up overnight on my chin. As soon as I pluck it out (most satisfying, sorry tmi) it grows back again. It'll do this two or three times and then go into hibernation for a few weeks before making its prickly return to torment me. How do I get rid of this permanently? Or is this just one of the charming side effects of 'getting on' that we have to endure?

I wish that every hair I pluck from my face could be transplanted to my scalp!

Ive had a hairy lip and chin since undergoing hormone treatment at a fertility clinic. I have to wax my lip every two days and pluck my chin once a week. My most embarrassing moment was some years ago l was on my way to collect my car so l had to take the bus and l sat opposite a mother and child, the child was staring at me then in the loudest voice lm sure he could muster shouted, "mommy why has that lady got a beard", needless to say l exited the bus very quickly as the whole bus decided to take a look !!! ???

I have downy hair on the side of my face & chin that troubles me, as well as dark coarser ones on my chin and each side of my upper lip that I pluck out frequently. Would waxing deal with the downies without encouraging them to grow back more thickly? I've noticed on photographs that quite a few mature celebrities have downy faces. What does Queenie do as I've noticed it on her pictures. Answers from beauty therapists please.

Has anyone tried the NoNo! for the face ?

Try a Wizzit £5 on Amazon. They are truly amazing.

I have my eyebrows upper lip and chin threaded every 3 to 4 weeks. I've tried everything including electrolysis over many years, very painful and eventually stopped being effective on the chin area. Waxing grows back stubbly, creams don't get hair from the root. Threading is definitely the way to go and not painful enough to worry about in IMO.

I tried an epilator on my legs but found it ineffective.

I have my eyebrows and upper lip threaded. It's a bit eye watering for the upper lip but far more effective than waxing; lasts for several weeks, and no ingrowing hairs.
As for chin hairs....I found one dark hair nearly 2" long, where the heck did that come from? Why dark when my hair's silver?

I use an epilator on my legs but don't have the guts to use it on my face ?

I bought a Braun face epilator which doubles up as one of those face cleansing brushes. I only use it every now and again and it is brilliant for getting those ones right under the chin that you can t actually see but probably everbody else can!! You can also do eyebrows if you are careful. The first time I did my upper lip, I had tears in my eyes but it is getting easier now. It runs on batteries but I do think it would be better if you could charge it up instead. Got mine on offer from Boots from around £45 but they are often advertised around £70. Can definitely recommend.

I come from a family of hairy women. When DS was very young an ancient whiskery auntie came to tea. After studying her for a few minutes DS pipes up "Mummy. Do some ladies have beards?" Determined not to become a bearded lady myself, I had electrolysis on my lip and chin but found it very painful. A course of laser treatment with just occasional top-ups has just about eliminated the problem. Expensive but not painful and worth every penny.

I spent £1000 on electrolysis and didn't notice any difference so ne use my epilady

ajanela Sat 23-Jan-16 17:09:57

I agree. Epilator works well

M0nica Sat 23-Jan-16 16:54:19

I haven't found it that bad. I only have 10 minutes at a time and the beautician always puts a soothing cream on my face afterwards. It is a bit red for 10 minutes but is then OK.

However, how painful I find it varies a lot and I think has a lot to do with how I am feeling, if I am feeling a bit under the weather or stressed it is a lot more painful than when I get a train of thought going that makes me oblivious to everything else. but given what the alternative would be (for me), I am prepared to suffer.

Thanks M0nica. I asked because I worked with someone on the late 70s who had it above her lip and I know it hurt then. Just wondered if things had improved. She used to hold ice cubes on the area she'd had done.

WilmaKnickersfit Sat 23-Jan-16 14:34:44

Yes, powder would be too drying on my skin. Very occasionally I might wear a full face of makeup, but even then I don't use powder.

thatbags Sat 23-Jan-16 14:23:00

We'll just have to go powderless then, wilmak smile. I do anyway. You?

M0nica Sat 23-Jan-16 14:20:25

Yes it can.

WilmaKnickersfit Sat 23-Jan-16 11:11:02

Just curious, does electrolysis hurt? confused

WilmaKnickersfit Sat 23-Jan-16 11:07:58

thatbags I don't mind it, I just wondered if it was 'normal'. I'm not sure if I've always had it or if maybe it's become more noticeable as I age. I have pictures in my head of old ladies with powdered faces and downy cheeks! grin

Teetime a tenner appears to be the going rate without burns etc in my area of London.

Teetime Sat 23-Jan-16 09:54:57

Downy is fine, big black or grey sprouty ones isn't! smile

Teetime Sat 23-Jan-16 09:54:11

charleygirl so can I get it done for a tenner and I have - happier with the £24 job - no burns, no spots!

thatbags Sat 23-Jan-16 08:48:43

Seriously though, what is there to mind about downy skin? It's nice.

thatbags Sat 23-Jan-16 08:44:29

They'd've got thumped (metaphorically!) if they had wink

thatbags Sat 23-Jan-16 08:43:44

I'm quite downy near the ears too, wilmak. I've never done a thing about it because I don't mind it. I don't think anyone else does either. Very few people look at me that closely and those who do have never complained!
