Hair on my chinnychinchin

I have electrolysis because of the quantity of my facial hair. I first found coarse dark hairs on my face when I was 20 and resorted to electrolyis when I was 40. Initally every week. Now I am in my 70s, I go every two or three months. The problem is, as one set of hairs is removed othersappear.

Facial hair is the down side of having really thick dark hair on my head which, as DD commented, has yet to show any sign of getting thinner. Having a friend my age who now has very thin hair indeed. I am happy to deal with the facial hair in return for my luxuriant barnet.

I thought it was just me who is bothered about nose hair. Never actually removed any though. I'm definitely getting a few whiskers above my lips on each side. Not sure if they are noticeable though because they're pale.

I have a lot of pale downy hair on my face, mainly at the sides near my ears. Does anyone else have that and do you do anything about it?

Growing old is not for the faint hearted is it!! I am grateful that DH Now needs to wear glasses as he doesn't see me as clearly as he once did.grin

?
I get the odd rogue hair, but being fair, nothing to trouble me really, just one that I will pluck out now and again.

At least I haven't got hairs growing out me earoles(yet!)grin

Isn't it GROSS growing old?!shock

Seriously, I do sometimes have a problem with nostril hairs myself. I use a battery-operated mini-razor thing meant for eyebrows to get rid of them sporadically, but as with shaving moustaches etc. it means the hairs grow back blunt-ended and look even more bristly...! hmm

wot Fri 22-Jan-16 18:52:58

Ha ha!grin

Ana Fri 22-Jan-16 18:35:20

Don't try it on your nose hairs though, wot! wink

annodomini Fri 22-Jan-16 18:30:19

Wizzit previously recommended on at least two previous facial hair threads! Cheap enough to try it and discard if you don't like it. I find it invaluable.

What about when you have to pluck your nose before visiting the dentist!! Oh, the shame!

Nelliemoser Fri 22-Jan-16 17:58:58

This all depends on how coarse you hairs are. Electrolysis works, it may take several goes but the hairs do weaken.

If you have a lot of dark ones try IPL laser treatment it is more expensive but quicker for large areas. It does not work on white hairs.

Plucking is painful but hairs grow back fine. Shaving leaves harsh stubble and you get the blunt stem of the hair showing as it emerges.
I would suggest trying threading. It seems to be increasingly popular.

Charleygirl Fri 22-Jan-16 17:55:01

Yes I have and it is so painful. I find waxing less so.

Jayh Fri 22-Jan-16 17:30:28

I get my eyebrows threaded as it is painless compared to waxing but I haven't tried it on my moustache facial hair ( yes it does sprout overnight). Has anyone tried threading for this?

ffinnochio Fri 22-Jan-16 16:27:19

I just pluck, as and when . I find they're very bristley , so usually feel them before seeing them, or Mr Finn politely points them out, and I'm very grateful!

hildajenniJ Fri 22-Jan-16 16:07:34

I pluck mine. I have quite a few now, and the job is taking longer. I would love to be rid of them permanently. Does electrolysis do this, or do you have to have several sessions? Is it expensive, and worth doing? I hate my whiskers!

Charleygirl Fri 22-Jan-16 14:22:49

Teetime- you wuz robbed- I can have all of that done for under a tenner.

Rhonab Fri 22-Jan-16 14:13:57

Old age is beckoning!!! I have one of these epilator thingies for the legs and use it along my chin occasionally. Works a treat, isn't painful at all and it takes ages for the hairs to sprout again.

Teetime Fri 22-Jan-16 14:12:54

oh and eyebrows - not all off just nicely shaped. £24 the whole job.

Teetime Fri 22-Jan-16 14:12:24

I have mine waxed (and lip) every few weeks. Shaving definitely seems to make them thicker and coarser and my eyesight is not good enough to pluck them- waxing gets it all off nice and smoothly.

Desdemona Fri 22-Jan-16 13:52:37

I have a few these days (Im nearly 49). I shave them off in the bath with a BIC every couple of days!

M0nica Fri 22-Jan-16 13:24:57

If I hadn't been having electrolysis off and on since I was 40, I would have a beard to rival DH (who has had a real Captain Birdseye beard for decades).

How fortunate are those that have a few hairs that can be dealt with by tweezering now and againgrin

Alima Fri 22-Jan-16 13:21:43

Oh the joys of age! The worst thing is when you find a really long one but nobody had the courage to tell you it was there!

rubysong Fri 22-Jan-16 13:09:48

Same here! I have a good pair of tweezers and an illuminated magnifier and a magnifying mirror and hopefully keep on top of my 'Granny whiskers'.

greengran Fri 22-Jan-16 13:00:14

Recently I've had a very annoying and prickly hair pop up overnight on my chin. As soon as I pluck it out (most satisfying, sorry tmi) it grows back again. It'll do this two or three times and then go into hibernation for a few weeks before making its prickly return to torment me. How do I get rid of this permanently? Or is this just one of the charming side effects of 'getting on' that we have to endure?
