I usually wear Knowing by Estée Lauder which I love. I'd like to find another perfume, have been out today, but have come back empty handed as in the end they all smelt similar. What is your favourite? I'm looking for something not sweet or flowery.
I've been using 'Suddenly' from Lidl for a while now and it's definitely a copy of Coco Mademoiselle. This was reinforced when I went for a spa treatment and the very posh girl doing my massage said ' Ohhhh you're wearing Mademoiselle' Me ...stupidly, 'Ummm no.. Lidl's own' In the local Lidl's store the other day I noticed that there are now some new fragrances available. Has anyone any ideas of what perfumes the new ones are similar to?
A few years ago I loved Youth Dew but DH banned me from wearing it as all his patients of a certain age used it and he said he needed a change when he got home!
I get headaches from perfumes that have big synthetic elements. I am fine with the more natural type ones though even today many of the fine perfume houses are resorting to synthetic elements due not just to costs but to rarity of product as I found out recently on a tour at the house of Fragonard in Grasse, France. [Eg Ambergris - whale vomit!!! : Odor profile: Naturally a product of the intenstine of sperm whales, found floating on the ocean and blanched by sea and sun with a skin-like salty and warm effect. Synthetically recreated today.] I bought some fleur d'oranger there which I am enjoying lots . . . usual others ones I chop and change according to how I am feeling, are Premier Figuier [fig] by L'Artisan Parfumeur or Ambre [amber] Sultan by Serge Lutens. I actually feel quite 'unfinished' without my couple of sprays! And did anyone see that research out where women who used citrus-type fragrances were assumed to be younger than they actually were? Forget now where I saw it but it made me laugh and also wonder why? This is not the one I saw but mentions it "Although pink grapefruit isn't really a sensual scent, men felt that #women who wore this fragrance were younger than their actual age." perfumes.allwomenstalk.com/most-attractive-scents-to-men-that-will-bring-them-to-their-knees
Green Tea by Elizabeth Arden is fresh and cool, particularly in the summer. My daughter gave me Coco Noir by Chanel which I wear to smart events, especially in winter. I have an eau de toilette with a strong lemon scent, that I really love for every day, which I bought when visiting Cologne in Germany. It's called Verveint and was made at Monastere Notre-Dame, presumably by the monks.
Parure by Guerlain was my all time favourite, never found anything else like it. But now wear Cabochard by Gres in Winter and L'Air du Temps by Nina Ricci in the Summer. Both lovely but how I miss Parure!
What a wonderful thread!! I've been looking for a new perfume, so this has given me lots of ideas.
I've always loved Biotherm's Eau d'Energie but lately they only sell it in airports - don't ask me why. A lovely orangey scent that people always comment on.
My daytime staple is CK1, and lately I've been loving Otto Kern's Unique - but you can only buy it in Germany.
Used to wear Paloma Picasso and loved it so much I even bought a special refillable thing for it - then went off it!
Oh, the memories. We were so lucky back in the 60s and 70s as we had them all. I had a fondness for Miss Dior and had it for my wedding and do not like what they have done to it now. I love all of the Guerlain and DH always comments when I wear Chanel Coco. I recently went to a literary festival and the author of Perfume-A Century of Scents, Lizzie Ostram, was giving a talk. I received a signed copy of her book and DH sourced some Guerlain Nahema for me for xmas, which I hadn't seen for years.
Hi, first post for me also. Enjoying this discussion. I love 'O' de Lancôme and Clinique aromatic elixir. By the way, does anyone remember Havoc' by Mary Quant, in a black metal container, not a glass bottle, from the 60s. Absolutely no-one seems to remember it but me. I loved it.
What about Sortilege? I loved it. It's now made by a US company, but I'm not prepared to spend that much money on a "rehash" that I may not like (tight**se that I am) I'm eking out my online auction site purchases of the original!
Cheerytree59 I remember Tramp! Can't remember who made it but it was my favourite for ages. The other one I liked around the same time was Charlie Girl. In more recent times I liked Anais Anais but unfortunately DH has become allergic to perfume so I just wear Eau d'Armpit.
I wear Jasmine Noir by Bulgari for special occasions and Giorgoi's Red for everyday. I also have a small bottle of Heather from Lakeland perfumes in Cumbria, which I buy when we visit there. My first perfume was Muguet de Bois (at least I think that was what is was called)!
I've been wearing Opium for many years - it was first given to me by my late much loved uncle, and I've worn it in his memory ever since.
In my (single) 20s I used Femme by Marcel Rochas, Guerlain's Mitsouko and Quadrille by Balenciaga. Then in my (married) 30s when money was tight I loved Aqua Manda. The Opium addiction started in my (divorced) 40s!
