I used to wash (and condition) mine every 2nd day but I've read somewhere that this is still too frequent and strips oils etc. My hair is quite thin. I'm currently weaning myself to 3/4 days (without any dry shampoo which makes my head itch). How often do you wash yours?
Well I'm offended, chicklette. I wash it once a week and it most definitely does not smell!
About twice a week unless I have specific things to do then I'll wash it for those days. The menopause helped my previously greasy hair be drier. Dry shampoo and a bit of clever root lifting at my crown takes me through to the next wash.
Don't know whether it is anything to do with frequent washing in the past and daily blow drying as my hair sticks up all over the place on waking but have noticed my hair line is receding quite a bit. I've also lost my eyebrows, always were thin though. Anybody else got this problem ?
Everyday as it gets wet in the shower, I have used shower caps but they make me feel my scalp is sweaty and unclean. I have very short hair, I use conditioner and its neither dry nor greasy just seems ok.
I gave up shampoo etc more than a year ago for bicarbonate of soda dissolved in warm water and a lemon/ beer/ cider vinegar rinse.
Twice a week is all it needs.
My hair is very fine and thinning on top. I think it looks healthier without
the chemicals. Why not give it a try?
I as interested in Grands' comment about hairdressers being part of health care; it was my sister's hairdresser who suggested that she could have a thyroid deficiency as er hair was getting thinner. He was right.
When I was a child at boarding school we used to have our hair washed once a fortnight. Some of us had very greasy hair by the time the fortnight was up! I now wash my hair whenever it looks as if it needs it. Seems to work.
Really it depends on your hair type. I have very fine thin hair which I wash every day with a mild shampoo. I used to work with a lady who had thick wiry hair that she washed weekly. She used to tell me that it was wrong to wash your hair each day and that my hair would be like her's if only I would wash it weekly!!
You just have to work out what works best for you.
Like Juggernaut I've washed mine every day for the past 50 years except when I was in labour. I even managed to get to the sink to wash it whilst waiting for the ambulance when I had meningitis and was feeling very ill! Crazy when I think about it but I just don't feel clean if it hasn't been washed. It's not so much the hair, more the scalp I feel, why would you wash the rest of your entire body and then just leave that bit!
My hair is quite short and thick and tends to frizz a bit.
I wash my hair in the shower as and when. I use products which help to keep it smooth but often wake with a right mess this usually dictates when.
I go to the hairdresser every week to have my hair shampooed and set. It costs a fortune but I think it is very important to have good looking hair.
As a youngster my hair was washed once a week, on Sunday nights in preparation for returning to school on a Monday morning. Had same routine on school holidays, hair seemed to be in good condition :- appearing clean, fresh and had a shine to it, brunette. Long or short this routine suited my hair and lifestyle.
As I aged varied frequency of washing depending on social life, work commitments etc. Found when hair short needed to wash every day in order to style hair. As typical I suppose, tried various hair products depending on what was the fashion, and / or was of interest to me.
Now find I have a dry scalp, hair tends to dry out in the winter. Try to wash hair a couple of times a week, having changed from every day. As would like my hair and scalp to be in as healthy condition as is possible. Use oils on occasions in an attempt to improve scalp and hair condition/s.
I wonder how much hairdressers knowledge and skills could assist us with managing hair care. Also wonder if their training includes health aspects. As apparently hormones during pregnancy tend to cause reduced hair loss, hair thickens though this again changes after pregnancy as hormones return to pre-pregnancy levels natural normal hair loss returns, and hair condition likely to return to that of pre-pregnancy. Also believe I have read that thyroid hormone can have an impact on hair. Maybe hairdressers could be part of Health Care in the future :- who knows.
Have strong thick straight hair. Wash once a week.Sunday. No conditioner. Roll it up in curlers before drying. Mid week dampen and put in curlers. I haven't been to a hair dresser for more than fifty years.. Still manage to cut it myself and am often complimented on appearance.
I wash mine twice a week. It's long and thick, so washing more frequently is a pain. I do NOT use conditioner as this makes it thick, lank and greasy in a day or so. Just natural, no additives shampoo, and my hair is light glossy and springy.
My hair is very fine and quite thin, so I wash it every morning in the shower. If I don't, it feels very flat and unclean for the rest of the day.
Mine's shoulder length and I usually wash it every other day unless I'm going to the hairdressers and then I'll leave it an extra day but i hate the feel of it. I always use conditioner - it's very fine and I can't get the comb through it if I don't and it's also very flyaway. What I don't understand is how the conditioner bottle runs out before the shampoo one when I use twice as much shampoo - it's a conspiracy! Never use hairspray but often use heat treatment before my straighteners. My mum went to the hairdressers every Sat and never washed it in between and only washed mine once a week when I was a child - mind you I only had a bath once a week then too
About every 5 days. I find that the "stylability " improves each day after washing, gets a bit more body. I use dry shampoo if it gets a bit lank and that perks it up no end. Never use conditioner as it makes the hair too heavy - I like bounce. Am so happy that one good thing about the ageing process is less greasy hair; when I was young and had long hair I had to wash it every day. Total pain!
Every 2 days, 3 at a push. My hair is fine and if I leave it longer it goes even flatter than usual. I don't shower daily either or use deodorant, unless the weather is really hot and I don't smell.
Every day when it needs a cut but when it's in a manageable shape I can get away with every 3-4 days. I don't stick with one shampoo as I think variety suits my hair better. DH has decided not to use shampoo at all although he has so little hair I can't see any difference!
If I know I am going to be in all day, I don't bother, but otherwise I wash it when I have plans. Otherwise, it is heavy, dull and has no body
Every morning in the shower. My mum washed my hair every day in the bath when I was a child, and I've just carried on.
I know that there has been one day in the past 58 years when my hair didn't get washed, the day DS was born, I was in labour for 23 hours! I couldn't wait to get in the shower and get clean the following morning!
Hairdresser comes once a week. Shape n style stay in well. Doesn't go greasy or itchy. Must be lucky
I'd like to recommend cleansing conditioner. It's not shampoo so it doesn't strip your hair. I have dry curly/frizzy hair, thinning a bit but this has worked wonders. It's pricey but you don't need conditioner and it makes my hair look thick in the places I felt were thin at the back. The one I use is 'Grow Gorgeous'. There is a big range to choose from and you can buy it in larger Boots or online where it's a bit cheaper. I buy the basic one which is £17 in the shops but I wash my medium length hair daily and it lasts me about 3 months. Even my dry hair looks shiny and non frizzy - a miracle!
I've waded through three pages to find someone who leaves their hair as long as I do so thank you Cath9. I am always amazed at how often people say, ''Your hair looks nice, have you just had it 'done'?'' when it hasn't been washed for several days.
I fear, since getting older, my poor hair has not been looked after as well as it used to be, so about once every two weeks.
Every day. It is thick but very fine & it just flops if it is not squeaky clean. I use products but nothing really lasts. Sometimes at a weekend I may leave it for one day but it always feels wrong by lunchtime. It is a source of great amusement to my husband what my hair looks like in the morning as it flies in all directions during the night. Ah well as long as it keeps him happy! At least I have plenty of it.
