My jawline is getting rather downy. Any tips for dealing with this simply and not making it worse? I fear most hair removal products would - as things are at the moment - be using a sledge-hammer to crack a nut.

It was a Wizzit. About £5 and amazing.

Was just about to post about the Wizzit too. It works!

Yes this is a problem, however this is GRANSNET and the woman in the picture is a child!! - years before she is a Gran

Pluck it! Seriously.
I am seventy seven, and I started plucking when I was fiftyish; the menopause speeded growth up I think.
I'm still tweezering a few small hairs away every two or three days, but there has been no increase in growth in over a quarter of a century.
It's a cheap way of keeping chin hair under control, but do buy good quality tweezers.

The No-No? Take a look at the Google reviews. I did, when considering a bikini wax, but was horrified by the adverse comments.

Lupatria Sat 26-Mar-16 11:05:18

i shave! every day too. i haven't noticed it coming back thicker and coarser it just grows!!

my chin gets the daily treatment, my top lip now and again when it needs it and the downy stuff along my jawline gets done when it's looking rather fluffy [not that often].

i started tweezing but it took too long and i don't want to use an epilator as i've enough pain to deal with on a daily basis [ok so i'm a wimp] but haven't yet gone down the creams route.

and i rather think the no no is a no no - too much money for my liking although i've yet to look at the reviews which will probably endorse my thinking.

I do what Leonora does, I just pluck them and they get weaker and weaker each time. I did use a cream once and had waxing but that took all the soft, downy hairs away & you need them to give skin the peachy soft look. Tweezers are cheap too.

Like neversaydie i have my chin and eyebrows thresded every month or two and pluck out strAy bristles in between.

Trudy Sat 26-Mar-16 11:25:14

I tried the hair removal cream and I had the most amazing rash appear so be careful. I now buy leg wax strips and cut them into thinner strips. I remove the excess wax with wax removal wipes I buy on Amazon. I also use tweezers. Don't you just love this part if getting old. ??

I use JML pearl I seen it on one of the shopping channels , it's half the price of NO NO , and it does work I've had no re growth for for couple of weeks now.

carole2512 Sat 26-Mar-16 11:42:21

I bought No-no, and it actually burns the hair (eventually) down to the follicle, so it can't re-grow. It takes more than one application to do this though. It is pain-free. For the odd stray hair, I use my trusty tweezers.

Dianic Sat 26-Mar-16 11:55:48

Agreed. It's a bit painful sometimes, but really effective!!

Thingmajig Sat 26-Mar-16 12:01:08

I have an epilator for my legs but also run it over my chin when I feel the need. It works perfectly for the odd sprouter and lasts for weeks.
Oh, and it's not remotely painful!

anne53 Sat 26-Mar-16 12:14:32

I regularly, about once every 6 weeks or so, have my eyebrows, lip and chin threaded. Takes very little time and is very effective. Got a loyalty card now!

chatykathy Sat 26-Mar-16 12:21:36

The 'springy' thing is called a Tweepi,. Bought mine on Amazon for a few quid. It does the job but hurts about as much as threading which is something else I would recommend. I find waxing a bit harsh on my delicate skin hmm

Newquay Sat 26-Mar-16 13:08:43

I use tweezers for the odd strong ones and use waxing strips for the down-such fun! I have asked my DDs and DGDs to watch out for this as I grow (even) older-I hope- and keep me in check.

Dharmacat Sat 26-Mar-16 13:39:19

Appears to be the same story: try several remedies and stick with whatever works best for you. However, this may require a change as one becomes older . In my mid-seventies fragile skin now precludes the use of waxing products but Nair facial cream followed by Savlon is very effective for top lip and chin with tweezers for the odd coarse hair.

Isn't it interesting the variety of ways folk deal with this.

I have shaved my top lip since the age of 14, coming from a very hairy family. I started electoysis at 16 and kept it up, finances permitting, till all the chin hair had practically gone. Just very light fuzz left.

Took a lifetime but worth it.

ps A really good magnifying mirror is a must. It tells no lies.

Venus Sat 26-Mar-16 13:54:56

Bleaching preparation. Good for above lip, would probably work on a chin also.

Perdita33 Sat 26-Mar-16 14:50:15

I use the same Brain epilator that I use on my legs and it's great. Plus tweezers for stubborn hairs

Perdita33 Sat 26-Mar-16 14:50:54

Braun, not brain!

ALLGOODTHYNGS Sat 26-Mar-16 14:59:31

Simple! I use laser, the Phillips Lumea which in the first year of use transformed my body to hairless and during that time I used it about every 2 then 4=3 then 4 months as the hair got less. Has a special head for using on the face and is safe, leaves no marks or even redness.
Now every three months or so I do an occasional top up for any stubborn patches which have become much finer on legs and groin its hardly worth bothering. Would highly recommend. So impressed I bought one for each of my daughters to save them years of grief!

Lady10 Sat 26-Mar-16 16:19:45

Laser is the way to go! I bought one to use at home, probably every 3 weeks, but have no noticeable facial hair now. It only takes a few minutes to use and I now have hair free legs as well.

Charleygirl Sat 26-Mar-16 16:23:01

Does it work on white hairs Lady10?

Shazmo24 Sat 26-Mar-16 18:17:32

Threading is the way to go...gentle on the skin (I have my eyebrows & upper lip done.
It does hurt a bit but is quick & lats lnger than waxing

phoenix Sat 26-Mar-16 18:24:23

I thought the Philips Lumea thingy was an expensive bit of kit, am I wrong?
