New shoes ripping feet

For the first time ever I have bought a pair of shoes from M and S which are killing me. They fit perfectly well when sitting, walking up and down in the shop, but just tried to do my weekly shop in them and they were agony. Not only rubbed my heel, but I can put a plaster on there, but the three smaller hoes have had the skin taken off. Any ideas so art from the bin.

I would love to wear hotters but as I take size 2 they are not available. I mainly buy on the internet. Pavers are a great for me as they do a lot of size 2s. There are a number of websites specializing in small sizes but the prices are ridiculous and they are very narrow fitting. I used to be able to wear size 3 from Dolce (under forty shillings). Apparently all the lasts were changed when they became metric. Size 2 now size 35 etc.

I have the same trouble, I rarely find shoes that don't hurt. If I do have a pair that are fine they then suddenly for no reason rub my feet raw. In the summer I cannot have bare feet in shoes as they rub the sole of my foot and give me huge blisters. I have tried those little shoe liners but they pop off the heel and bunch up under the foot. (Sigh!) oh to have 'normal' feet!

Pavers multi coloured woven shoes are lovely but offer no support especially when you have feet that require support. Have just bought two pairs of hotter shoes in their sale and they are great, comfortable and so nice to find shoes that agree with my feet. Sorry for the lady who couldn't find a pair of Hotter shoes she liked.

shysal, if that is just raw sheep's wool, it might be a good idea to wash it first (cold water and no soap won't take out the lanoline) Sheep's fleeces are not all that sanitary.

Some clever spark once filled a cushion with raw wool - it was later found to be crawling with maggots, hatched out from the fly eggs laid in the dirtier parts of the fleece.

In my walking coat pocket and handbag I carry a wad of sheep's wool which I picked off a fence. If a shoe starts to rub you sandwich some of the wool next to the skin and the lanolin in the wool will lubricate the sore spot to stop a blister forming. Just a get-you-home- remedy of course!

desertdiva I agree with you re all Hotter shoes but if the choice is to stay indoors forever or wear granny shoes which are very comfortable, I think you know what I have chosen!

LesleyC grin I fear my "fat pads" have relocated elsewhere on my body sad
But I have read of collegennfoot injections to "plump them up" - ouchy!!

My father worked in the haberdashery department of the Coop before the war. His best friend was in the shoe department. He says that when a customer tried on shoes and they were a little too tight, he told them he would put them in the "shoe stretcher". He would take them out to the back, do nothing, bring them back in and hey presto! Suddenly they fit the customer.

(I doubt if anyone could get away with that these days!)

That best friend became my Godfather!

My problem, which should probably really be on another thread is that I have had several pairs of in-shoe socks (foam rubber for comfort, furry ones for warmth) and the have started riding up the heel. By the time I get to the end of the street they are somewhere around the back of my knee.

Blisters I don't have much trouble with, but I usually wear two pairs of socks and this may stop shoes rubbing.

Comfortable shoes are my bugbear! I haven't actually bought any new ones for years, as I just can't find any comfortable ones and prefer the ones I have worn in to my feet. I have bunions and most shoes cut right across at that point. Anything bigger and they look horrible and old fashioned. I also have sore soles on my feet. The chiropodist says it is because you lose the fat pads as you get older. Unless I wear trainers I can't walk round town like I used to do, even with gel pads in my shoes. I do have comfy boots though and have never had them off my feet since about October. With the warmer weather this week I have gone back into shoes which are having to be worn in again.

I've just looked at the Hotter website & can honestly say there is not ONE pair of shoes I would buy. Not one shock

Having found the perfect shoes for a wedding later in the year they have sold out of extra wide in the colour I want and can't tell me if they are going to re stock [Hotter shoes, Monica].I've bought them in black but I really want beige or navy.

Moshulu shoes are very soft, comfy and pretty. Also, Kiwi do a spray called Foot Silk which is very effective. Good luck - sore feet are no fun at all.

grannyqueenie Thu 05-May-16 10:08:16

This thread is like joining an exclusive but painful club where everyone speaks the same language i.e . words like Reiker, Joseph Seibel, Hotter, blister stick etc, all words unknown to these lucky people who just buy whatever shoes they fancy, walk out of the shop wearing them and live happily ever after and blissfully blister free. Jealous, moi??? smile

goose1964 Thu 05-May-16 10:00:54

I've got the same problem with a pair of footgloves, wearing them around the house to soften the heels . they are just what I was looking for so I think I'll presevere

NonnaW Thu 05-May-16 08:56:36

Just bought some lovely trainer-type red shoes from Hotter and for what seems like the first time ever I was able to wear them out shopping with absolutely no discomfort at all. I love them. Normally whatever shoes I buy I get rubbing or blisters and not always the first time I wear them. Currently looking for pretty dainty shoes for DSDs wedding next month which will be a challenge - don't think trainers will be a good look!

Alea Thu 05-May-16 07:37:05

At the risk of sounding like Shoe Zone Granny (?) has anybody tried those colourful woven summer shoes from Pavers? They also make a style which seems to be totally elasticated - sorry can't provide a pic- but if you have seen them you will know what I mean. They look very tempting.

whitewave Thu 05-May-16 07:16:40

Yes I do think M&S shoes are very unforgiving!
I'd go with Siebol, Rieker or Gabor.

Teetime Thu 05-May-16 07:13:14

Oh I'm glad its not juts me who is having shoe trouble I was beginning to think I had freaky feet. I have had an op on one and the other needs doing but you would think you could get comfy shoes. I have Van Dal now for nice shoes and have bought some new Clarks things that look like duck feet but I cant wait to get into flip flops for the summer (the expensive Clarks one with moulded soles). I have one pair of Hotter but heeled going out ones and they weren't that comfortable - I may have a look at Joseph Siebel this year.

Maggiemaybe Thu 05-May-16 07:02:26

For your blisters, I'd recommend Dotz plasters, in packs of 5 from Poundland. They provide good cushioning and whatever they're impregnated with gets to work fast. I'm not on commission from either concern!

absent Thu 05-May-16 06:55:56

I think that you have either bought the wrong size or shape or simply crap shoes. Chuck 'em.

Anya Thu 05-May-16 06:50:19

Skechers for me. Very comfortable and in great colours.

suzied Thu 05-May-16 06:40:05

Are they leather or synthetic?
Leather shoes will definitely stretch - you can break them in by walking round the house in them with 2 pairs of thick socks on for half an hour or as long as you can.build up the time and they will eventually stretch. Stuff the toes as tight as you can with thick socks and leave overnight is also effective. I have also done the freezer thing - use 2 of those zip lock freezer bags inside each other for safety - put in toe of shoe - fill bag with water Zip up securely then freeze. the water expands when frozen and stretches the shoe. I wouldn't use this method with expensive shoes though. I buy Camper shoes , when they are in the sale, and they are really good quality leather, which I often have to stretch, but once they fit they are the most comfortable shoes/ boots and last for years.

rubylady Thu 05-May-16 03:27:27

I've always bought Hotters but the last few pair have been very tight and uncomfortable. I have just looked up the spray to loosen the leather and it is on Amazon so I will try that. I did buy some Julipa sandals but the bag they came in smelled like it had had 20 cigarettes before the shoes went in, it stunk. The shoes were ok, EEE fitting for when my feet are swollen but I am very disappointed with the Hotter shoes, especially the lime sandals, very me! grin

Try this blister stick from Boots, great for shoes that rub the first few times you wear them.
