Vinegar is great for making hair shine. And for getting rid of nits! Whiffs a bit, though.

I'm following the OPs example, having put an avocado on my head and wrapped it in one of those bags you put kitchen waste in.

I used Argan oil and probably didn't wash it well enough afterwards as my hair still seemed a bit thick and sticky afterwards.

Years ago, when I was a daft teenager, it was fashionable to use either a vinegar rinse or a beaten egg to condition the hair. I tried the egg method but the rinsing water was too hot and I ended up with scrambled egg in my hair.

Argan oil is much better and easy to rinse out
I wash my hair in the shower, put it on ,pyt a plastic shower cap and towel on (the extra heat helps) and then sit in the bath for an hour or so relaxing.Then rinse out and gentle shampoo.
My hair is usually ok but visits to my daughter and London water play havoc with it

This is humorous in a good way. I remember when EFA oil came out and my friend drenched herself in it and then lay on a shower curtain on the floor to let it work into her hair and skin for a half hour. It got very sticky and hard to get off, but OK in the end.

Sounded like it might have been more fun if her DH had joined her on the shower curtain.... LOL

Lashings of conditioner overnight with a shower cap on.
Rinse well.

Been there, done that, got the (wrecked) T shirt!!!!!! Sadly bleaching and or colouring treatments do wreck the quality of hair.

The best answer is to have a 1/2" crew cut and get all the damaged hair cut off, though I have never had the courage to do that myself.

Depending on how long you like to wear your hair it might take more than a year for the damage to grow, (be cut,) out. I know that sounds brutal, but as I said, I HAVE been there. A friend caused it by leaving a colour on for longer than recommended, then a 3rd year student at hair college caused awful damge during colouring a few years later.

You might find using a drop of argan oil helps. Spread one drop between your palms and then work it through the hair. I start at the back of my neck and go upwards.

Do not compound dryness problem by exposing hair to sun or salt.

Buy a shampoo that does not contain salt. (i.e. sodium laurel sulphate.) I bought a large bottle from T K Max, and that does seem to help although I still have to use conditioner as well.

phoenix I do hope that you have the day off today because I can see your washing machine working overtime with so much bedding including pillows soaked in olive oil having to be washed.

Why would one need to use conditioner if hair has just been given the olive oil treatment?

Phoenix I used a new shampoo yesterday for "ageing" hair and having been at the seaside with the salt in the air I really feel pleased with the result. I've no idea where I bought it but it's got olea and argon in it what ever they are. I usually use shampoo for grey hair which has purple shampoo.

Hope you haven't ruined all your bedding!! Good luck with your hair after all this!

PS If you do an oil treatment again, use cling film instead of the plastic bag.

phoenix I don't know if you will read this in time, but don't wet your hair before using shampoo. Apply the shampoo to your oily hair, then add some warm/hot water so you can get a lather going. Then just rinse as normal. You shouldn't need to apply shampoo twice, but it won't do any harm. Apply conditioner as usual. Good luck!

Oh, I did laugh...going to bed with the bag on.
What's the betting that in the morning, the towel will be hiding somewhere, who knows where the bag will be.... your pillow will have an oil slick...... but your hair will be beautiful.

It might take a couple of wash/rinse to get rid of the oil. You deserve that this works for you. Please do update us

Peg together all your 'Hair' recipes (mayonnaise, eggs cucumber, avocado etc etc )
Or be really radical and put it in 'The peg bag'

Thanks * cherrytree* , my current plan is to go to bed with the bag and a towel (currently finding oil everywhere, at this rate my neck and shoulder should be either well moisturised or make damn good crackling)

I would put shampoo on first, get rid of the oil slick!
Rinse well
Then let dry naturally with out any heat.

Right, fed up now, olive oil starting to sort of drizzle down (yes, one can I massage it in, but there is a limit)

So, decided to leave the bag on my head, put a towel on the pillow and go to bed!

Ladies, in the morning should I

A) apply shampoo to my oil soaked hair, before water
B) rinse with water and then apply shampoo
C) shave my head (only kidding)

Anya I applied oodles of conditioner this morning whilst in the shower, left it on for as long as possible, but the recent somewhat drastic treatment has meant that I'm slightly prone to Boris hair, hence sitting here at this time of night and hoping that some of the might help!

(Still got bag on head,tired and bored now!)

Yes, shampoo the sticky stuff out and next time why not opt for a conditioner ..in the shower, in the morning.......although if you go to bed with sticky wet hair, it might keep you cool tonight.

(See previous posts, love the new colour, but it did take 3 applications of stuff to get from Scarlet to Champagne/ash blonde, so no wonder my hair is suffering!)

You definitely need to shampoo it out, should then be gorgeous!

Use a gentle shampoo, and never rub hair hard with a towel afterwards.
