Hello, I've been looking to update my skincare products as I find that the ones I've been using just don't seem to "cut the mustard" any longer!
I've looked online but am totally bewildered by the the products that are available and find that most of the online bloggers are younger and although the products work for them are not really appropriate for post menopausal skin - it really is a whole different ball game with dry patches, greasy t zone, eyelines and larger pores!
So I was hoping for some recommendations from "real life ladies" ? On what you use and rate. Hair, Bodycare and makeup recommendations gratefully deceived, too. Thanks

Recently stopped buying big brands, bought Retinol , Matrixyl and Hyaluronic Acid, skin has never looked better. Best of all if you buy from Revolution beauty, The Ordinary, or The Inkey List , each item under a tenner,
Loads of beauty editors use these products over those that cost a bomb.

We and everything we use are "packed with chemicals and nasty stuff". Everything is made of chemicals and nasty stuff. Using such a over-reaching description when one only means some chemicals and nasty stuffs does not help anyone's understanding.

I have found that soap, shampoo, and moisturiser without perfume (Simple brand; there may be others) to be what causes no negative reactions in my skin. That's all I use. Ever.

I think there's a case for simplifying one's cosmetic use. Companies keep on making weird and wonderful products about which they make weird and wonderful claims (anti-aging, indeed! What tosh!) because people keep buying them. Customer demand is what makes the difference.

People like perfumes so much that it's actually quite hard to find perfumeless candles nowadays. Perfumes make me ill.

I'm having difficulty taking all this in!

My skin's needs seem to change according to the season.

I currently use just Micellar Water OR a face wash. Just one cleanse.

Then I moisturise using Lift and Luminate, or similar. Many moisturusers are waaay too greasy for my skin.

I then use a primer, on top which goes foundation.

I'd like to ramp up the routine, but I'm confused. I never know how much AHA is in products, and I don't know where to begin with snail gel.

Heeelp!

I also make my own cleansers using salt and moisturiser.

I have said this before - just stop using products that are packed with chemicals and nasty stuff! After many, many years using Estee Lauder products I changed to the Tropic Skincare range.... I have not regretted it! Entirely natural.

Free from - Parabens • SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate) • Alcohol • Formaldehydes • Petrochemicals • Phthalates
• MI (Methylisothiazolinone) • Harsh Preservatives • Mineral Oils • ALS (Ammonium Lauryl Sulphate)
• Harmful Synthetic Fragrances • Triclosan • Unsustainable Palm Oils • Gluten • Lanolin
• Beeswax • Honey • Toxic Chemicals
Do the comparisons..

Really, these products work, I use them on myself and my grand-daughters - no problem. I have been using them for over a year now and I have no complaints...

You can either source them online or find an Ambassador for Tropic in your area - you will not be disappointed...

I really hope this helps xxx

The snails aren't hurt and it provides a lot of jobs, no different to taking eggs of chickens.

Anyway, unless you are a vegan, or never wear any animal products then you are exploiting animals in one form or another.

DaphneBroon Sat 13-Aug-16 12:26:15

I wonder if the snails feel the same?
Bears' bile is apparently highly regarded in one of the Eastern medicines, rhino horn is ostensibly an aphrodisiac.
Isn't it about time we stopped exploiting other creatures for the sake of our vanity?

LumpySpacedPrincess Sat 13-Aug-16 12:01:11

Snail secretion is amazing for skin, and it's farmed responsibly.

DaphneBroon Sat 13-Aug-16 11:08:52

envy actually [nauseous] emoticon!!
You cannot be serious?
Liz Earle products with no animal tested or secreted ingredients.
Eurgh!!!

LumpySpacedPrincess Sat 13-Aug-16 10:44:16

Ooooo and another ingredient that helps with redness is snail secretion, I use this one as an occlusive layer over my daytime moisturiser and I also have snail serums which I use. That is one ingredient that really hydrates, calms and heals skin, it's really helped with dh's psoriasis.

LumpySpacedPrincess Sat 13-Aug-16 10:25:07

another great blog

LumpySpacedPrincess Sat 13-Aug-16 10:17:31

also f77, check out the ph of the cleanser, I have ph strips in my bathroom! High ph cleansers help noone, low ph, natural ph is the way to go or you are stripping the skin of much needed moisture.

LumpySpacedPrincess Sat 13-Aug-16 10:10:19

This is a great blog with a lot of information about ingredients etc.

The postman brought me these little beauties! grin grin grin

LumpySpacedPrincess Sat 13-Aug-16 10:04:38

f77, if you have clogged pores then you need a bha to clear them out, that's a beta hydroxy acid. I use this one but any product with Salycilic acid in a decent percetage will do, Nip and Fab do some good decent products.

Also a good C serum, used correctly, will help anyones skin, I use this one and I keep it in the fridge! Ascorbic acid, vitamin C, has the most research to back it up and it works but it takes time.

For the veins there isn't really anything you can do as they are deep in the skin, I have eradicated the surface redness that I had though, Niacinamide is a great ingredient for that and I have that in a few of my products.

Keep your skin clean and hydrated but if you want to make changes then you need actives, aha, bha, vitamin c, retinol.

I'm exited as the postman has just turned up with parcels from Korea!!!!! grin

f77ms Sat 13-Aug-16 07:09:35

Oh and I don`t smoke or drink so it is not that causing the veins !

f77ms Sat 13-Aug-16 07:08:30

Lummyspacedprincess you seem to know what you are talking about ! any advice for a 65 year old with pores which get blocked , mainly dry skin and now I am getting broken veins on my cheeks . I use Body shop face wash then in the evening a cleanser , micellar water and Clinique moisturiser but it is just hit and miss as to whether these are the right products , I have no idea! I cannot spend a fortune either , any suggestions ? xx

jogginggirl Fri 12-Aug-16 23:56:15

I use Tropic ... www.tropicskincare.com

I used E.L. for many years until I discovered this beautiful natural range - it's amazing and not over the top price-wise .... ???

mrshat Fri 12-Aug-16 21:11:07

Liz Earle products are the ones for me! Clarins serum and foundation. Colour Me Beautiful for blushers, eye make up and lippy. Expensive but they work and suit my skin.

LumpySpacedPrincess Fri 12-Aug-16 18:22:28

grin

Alpha Liquid Gold is a chemical exfoliant, an alpha hydroxy acid. That encourages skin to regenerate and cleans skin, I use both AHA and BHA in my routine and consider it an active ingredient. The serum is a moisturiser, a humectant moisturiser, so it attracts and binds moisture to it thus plumping the skin.

There are other types of moisturisers that do different jobs, this explains it really well.

Bv1267990 Fri 12-Aug-16 18:16:22

Would the serum be the same as Alpha liquid gold? I've got some of that, but tend not to use it on my t zone as it seems to make it a bit too greasy.

Thanks for your advice Lumpy.... Would you like to be my new best friend? ?
