Following on from the cardi thread, I feel I have blinked and suddenly summer has turned into autumn. Not yet ready for the big cardi look , I had a little retail therapy on Friday and am loving the lovely, soft light gilet I treated myself to. Ideal when there's a nip in the air or the suspicion of rain. I bought it in dark navy which looks good with jeans and most of my clothes, but I am very, very tempted by the lovely fuchsia pink one they do as well.........
I can feel myself weakening .........
Question
What do you wear "in between" seasons? The summer T shirts don't cover enough, no way am I looking out winter woollies, the mornings and evenings are decidedly parky and it just feels as if summer is over sad

rosesarered Tue 27-Sept-16 12:59:56

Anyway, it's all you gilet wearers that have caused this sudden colder weather... angry

rosesarered Tue 27-Sept-16 12:57:42

Maybe your'e meant to wear them inside out.grin

Jayh Tue 27-Sept-16 12:40:09

Me too, Daphne. I walked all round a book festival wearing mine inside out. I found out when I tried to zip it up and of course I blamed the zip. We can't both be eejits can we? ?

DaphneBroon Tue 27-Sept-16 12:05:28

I sallied forth this morning in my new navy gilet as it is exceeding parky. Felling the bees knees, of course. Dropped DH at Drs and walked down to the Co-op for Grace's (current) favourite dog food. On the way back I was facing into the wind so I thought I would do the zip up. Alas it seemed to have been put in back to front blush which was when I realised I had been wearing it inside out blush again.
I fully expect to find my knickers are on back to front next.

I would love the pink gilet but have a very red nose, think Coco the Clown, so had to buy the navy one. It is lovely.

Looks nice Daphne ...but wouldn't suit me, I would feel like a tortoise peering out of it's shell ( the collar) although I do find a gilet useful for gardening in, keeps the arms free but gives a bit of warmth all round ( only buy cheapo ones.)

Go for the bright pink, brightens up a cold grey day

Tizliz Fri 02-Sept-16 12:05:50

14 deg C here today in north Scotland and threatening MORE rain. Yesterday I wore a light shirt, light fleece and a fleece gilet. In our workshop today which is always cold, resisting the temptation to put the heating on.

Jayh Fri 02-Sept-16 11:56:57

Ah yes, a gilet must cover the giblets otherwise there is no point in wearing one. ?

DaphneBroon Fri 02-Sept-16 10:39:17

I think I might call them giblets in future - nice one etheltbags! grin

etheltbags1 Fri 02-Sept-16 10:09:44

Arrrrgh g I l e t. Any advice how to stop the tablet from changing words would be welcomed.

etheltbags1 Fri 02-Sept-16 10:08:13

I must apologise because of this b..... tablet it keeps altering words. I meant of course go let not giblet. Lol

etheltbags1 Fri 02-Sept-16 10:02:59

Tried born marche yesterday and there were2 different giblets, neither covered my bum and both were very thin,so didn't buy one. They were priced at 25 quid, expensive for what they were as they felt cheap and they were not warm.

shockshock
Came across a £10 off voucher and.......I succumbed.

"Blow, blow thou winter wind
It's too damn hot round here I find
A bit of chill or rain I think
And I can sally forth in PINK
And if the isobars are wavy
I could always try out the NAVY"

Granjura that is terrible . The dreadful things we do to our fellow creatures is shocking , I will look for the label in future .

DaphneBroon Tue 23-Aug-16 16:24:52

It is roasting here today, clearly my navy gilet did the trick!
I am still resisting the pink one and might manage to go on resisting until the weather turns again grin
Fear not granjura my gilet, shell and filling are entirely ethically sourced from farmed Polly Esters grin

Daphne you wouldn't want that Gilet on in my garden at the moment: not unless you want to melt smile

Falconbird Tue 23-Aug-16 12:12:10

I wear a short sleeved cardigan over a sleeveless tee shirt with cotton trousers and lightweight shoes rather than sandals. I always carry a mac in my handbag, so if it rains or turns chilly I put it on.

When it gets colder I wear the same outfits only with a long sleeved cardi and I wear a gilet.

GRANJURA thanks for the info' about the geese - I'm a veggie and a member of Compassionate Farming. I will always check gilets for goose down now - its so b----y cruel.

granjura Tue 23-Aug-16 12:04:17

Won't add any articles or videos here- but perhaps do your own research. If your down gilet is cheap- there is probably a terrible reason for it, sorry.

granjura Tue 23-Aug-16 12:01:59

I know some of you may not want to know or care- but many down gilets are made from down 'harvested' by live stripping gueese, again and again (mind you same for duvets, etc- so look our for the guarantee label).

granjura Tue 23-Aug-16 12:00:48

boiling here in the Swiss mountains. I've got several linen or cotton gilets- which serve the purpose of adding just a little warmth but not too much, in spring and autumn- with the main purpose of hiding my bum.

grannylyn65 Tue 23-Aug-16 11:52:34

Well its b*****y cold in Perth !

TrishTopcat Tue 23-Aug-16 11:51:03

Uniqlo had a sale of down gilets last week - don't know if it's still on. I got a beautiful fuschia pink one. They are warm but ultra lightweight, and roll up small enough to go in my handbag. Cost less than £20

kittylester Tue 23-Aug-16 06:37:11

I love a gilet too. I have a couple but there is always room for another! I love the pink.

numberplease Tue 23-Aug-16 01:08:14

Ethel, have you tried Bonmarche? That`s where I got mine.
