M&S new season

I've just had a look at the M&S website as I'm planning a shopping trip next week. Despite all the suggestions M&S have had from Gransnetters it really doesn't look as though the clothes have improved this season. There are some very strange looking tops in weird prints on offer. (I did a cut and paste on a strangely designed pale pink Per Una tunic affair but I can't seem to get it to paste on here}. Is there any hope for M&S?

Forgot to say I hate the fashion for long sleeves that almost hide your hands.

Wobblybits Sun 25-Sept-16 07:35:58

While I've got some fashion gurus on hand, what was it with Will Young, had his trouser had a row with his shoes ?

downtoearth Sun 25-Sept-16 07:54:11

[Grin] I thought that as well wobbly...but I have bought some trousers labelled 'new cropped' which are just above ankle bone
I will wear with my "not for walking " suede ankle boots and pose prettily ,having removed my getting to the event go walk skechers and sticking in a carrier bag grin

I get the fashion on ladies, but never for men with formal style trousers. Looked like he'd borrowed them from a younger brother.

downtoearth Sun 25-Sept-16 08:01:48

And he wore red socks as well grin

DaphneBroon Sun 25-Sept-16 08:05:54

I thought the red socks and "short" trousers helped to show off his nifty footwork. A cunning plan?

I have now had a peek at the blouse and share the general reaction. The colour reminds me of the directoire bloomers my granny used to wear which came over her stocking tops and down to her knees! (Mind you, Scotland was cold.)

Gilbert O'sullivan wore similar in 70's and a flat cap.....seem to remember older gents wearing similar with braces when I was younger, which forced the area of the male anatomy to fall to one side , our greengrocer wore them was always convinced he had spare tangerines there, well that's what mum always said when I asked5grin

downtoearth Sun 25-Sept-16 08:27:14

Have just bought a pink top in that pink ...might take back now as I will think of granny's knickers now each time I wear it Daphnegrin

DaphneBroon Sun 25-Sept-16 09:35:59

shock downtoearth!! Oops. If the colour suits you no way should you take it back. As always the right person makes all the difference to a garment. Wear it and enjoy it!!

To be fair, most shops' offerings are pretty dire at the moment. That blush pink colour is appearing a lot in shops. I quite like it, myself.

I like the boots at M and S, but nothing else.

Teetime Sun 25-Sept-16 09:46:53

I went into the big M & S in Nottingham last week and was faced with a sea of brown. I do not want to wear brown or shades of brown I will be as depressed as that colour if I have to wear brown. Brown makes me look tired and old. Brown is what my mother always wore and she looked old and depressed. There are other colours Marks but hopefully not the bile green which was the only other colour I saw.

They seem to have thought ah yes let's be different with frills . Their materials are poor quality..I tend to buy when reduced or 20% off .

Stansgran Sun 25-Sept-16 09:48:45

If then

Charleygirl Sun 25-Sept-16 10:12:17

I noticed that they were out of stock with size 24- I would have thought that was the very last size to be seen flouncing around in that God awful cheap looking frilly monstrosity.

Kateykrunch Sun 25-Sept-16 10:19:06

Teatime....I once wore brown trousers with a long tunic style brown jumper and I realised I looked like a gaint poo!, never again lol.

Riverwalk Sun 25-Sept-16 10:21:23

It looks like a dishrag even on the size 8, 5'8" model. What are those size 24 women thinking?

lefthanded Sun 25-Sept-16 10:28:02

I took my wife into M&S at Newport Leeway yesterday and she complained that they appear to be following the Henry Ford line - you can any colour you like as long as it's black.

Looking at the garments that face you as you enter the store, I'm inclined to agree.

Charleygirl Sun 25-Sept-16 10:47:31

I will stick with their coffee and £10 meals I think. The way they are going there will be little else left.

NannyMcPhU Sun 25-Sept-16 11:43:16

DaphneBroon my granny wore those bloomers too. With apologies to downtoearth my first thought was 'granny knicker pink,.

Teetime Sun 25-Sept-16 11:58:18

You put it perfectly Kateykrunch that's my worry.
PS you name sounds like a particularly lovely biscuit! smile

downtoearth Sun 25-Sept-16 12:10:31

I just call the pink "clover pink" team mine with burgundy or brown .....I love the bile green as well and the mustard colour and all the autumn colours....but don't like any thing from M&S no offended in any way grin

harrigran Sun 25-Sept-16 12:26:48

That pink blouse looks like a shroud I found amongst my grandmother's effects, had it been white it would have been a dead ringer. Sorry if anyone has bought the blouse sad

NotTooOld Sun 25-Sept-16 14:26:41

Yes, that's the one I meant. You may have noticed it also comes in grey. hmm

NotTooOld Sun 25-Sept-16 14:41:03

OMG - I've just looked on Facebook and the frilly pink horror is on there as a sponsored post from M&S. I couldn't believe it. Perhaps it's because I tried to cut and paste it to post on here.

Nandalot Sun 25-Sept-16 18:27:28

Agree, the pink frilly thing is awful. And horrors it has just appeared in the side ads. In Gransnet.

I like those big cardigans with no buttons, as well, DaphneB. They had loads in Nott. Marks. I wish I'd gone for it. There was a blue one that would have gone brilliantly with jeans for the morning Nanny twins to school run.
