M&S new season

I've just had a look at the M&S website as I'm planning a shopping trip next week. Despite all the suggestions M&S have had from Gransnetters it really doesn't look as though the clothes have improved this season. There are some very strange looking tops in weird prints on offer. (I did a cut and paste on a strangely designed pale pink Per Una tunic affair but I can't seem to get it to paste on here}. Is there any hope for M&S?

NotTooOld I actually have no idea how I got to review stuff, they just started emailing me confused I don't know why because I'm very rude about some of the stuff and they never seem to take any notice. Just like they never take any notice of us on Gransnet.

My God! I've just looked at that blouse! It takes real talent to make a size 8 look like a sack of potatoes! How they can write those descriptions with a straight face I don't know - and the poor model deserves a medal grin

And they want £39.50 for that!

I'm going to M&S in the morning hoping to get some jeggings. I'm going to look out for the pink horror to see if it is really as bad as it appears in the picture.

I had a look round a small local M & S last week and was so disappointed when faced with rails of dull, droopy clothes. Some of their styles have not been updated for several years, the cardigans in particular. There was nothing I wanted to buy and as I had some vouchers, spent them on their toiletries and make up which seems to suit me. Then I went to look in White Stuff which, although more expensive, has a lovely range of skirts and tops which fit my small frame much better.

I bought a longish (on me at 5'2' ) grey merino wool Cardigan with a navy-blue stripe at the bottom from Boden this week. I am already wearing warm clothes and have the heating on today here in Dorset.

I like their big cardis too - might get one then tell my DS that's what he's bought me for C....mas so hand over the dosh!

Their City of London store is full of black outfits as there are so many 'high-power' offices in the vicinity. Comparatively few shops open there on Sundays - there's just not the footfall. For the sake of enticing those same office workers M&S opens there from 7am to 8pm Mon-Friday.

I'm sad M&S closed so many Outlet stores as they were my first port of call if I felt like some cheer-me-up shopping grin Had to be careful what you bought though - I once bought a beautiful jumper but didn't notice the two sleeves were different lengths sad

Yes the pink blouse is as bad in real life, saw it today. DH looked at a dress in there while I was wandering and said "do,they really expect women to wear that sort of thing, it's awlful". When I saw what he was looking at I agreed. Apart from one or two things I do think M&S have rather lost the plot as to what older ladies like to wear.

I can't get rid of The pink horror.
There is a constant picture of it and the gray one on the bottom of my screen
grrr!

susieq36197 Mon 26-Sept-16 19:11:32

Hi.M@S I'm afraid have totally lost it I'm afraid .Not good quality anymore and designed for the older woman I'm afraid.

Jalima Mon 26-Sept-16 19:39:59

It looks like a huge blob of pink blancmange, which takes some doing on a 5' 8" size 8 model!.
Add a few yellow spots and it could be Mr Blobby.

I like the Woolovers cardi/jacket, but would it look so good in a double-8?

Jalima Mon 26-Sept-16 19:45:22

lefthanded I have been to that M&S (in your photo) on my forays over there; it is like a warehouse, quite depressing at the best of times!

DaphneBroon Mon 26-Sept-16 19:52:13

jalima I don't think Woolovers go up to size 88 gringrin
I am a 16 and they suit me fine. If on the other hand you are a size 8 I will never speak to you again - EVER.

Jalima Mon 26-Sept-16 19:59:12

I meant 8x2 grin
trying to be 7x2
moe likely to be 9x2 with all this enforced lounging around at the moment. hmm

I haven't bought any clothes from M and S for years. Not even undies- and I have tried, part of it is the store layout - maybe there is something I would like but I can't be bothered to trawl through all the dross, partly the mass of synthetic/ dull/ trying too hard to be trendy stuff, which seems to be featured heavily in the ads and on the website. My Oh buys from there as he likes the men's stuff, but the women's clothing really doesn't appeal and I am an older women who likes to look stylish and spends quite a bit on clothes.

NotTooOld Mon 26-Sept-16 21:40:08

I found the pink horror this morning and I can only say it is absolutely ghaaaastly, darling. I wanted some black cotton jeggings in a 14 medium but could I find any? No. I didn't bother asking as from previous experience I knew I would be told 'They've all gone, it's a popular size'. Grr. I did buy a grey pair and also some socks and some boots. I realised at the till that I had left my carrier bag in the car and I refuse to pay for another one so left the shop carrying my purchases under my coat as it was raining. I felt like a thief and expected to feel Plod's hand on my collar at any moment. I'm off to Whitestuff and Fat Face later this week as I usually find something nice in both of them. As someone above says, they are a bit more expensive but they are also much nicer than M&S - and they give you a paper carrier bag to put your your new clothes in. What's not to like?

I'm meeting Greenfinch in M&S on Wednesday, I must remember to look for the pink horror grin

GrandmaKT Mon 26-Sept-16 22:43:35

Agree about the pink horror - never seen anything so disgusting in my life!
I got sent a voucher for 20% off at M&S last week (through their stupid 'Sparks' scheme which I still can't get to work properly!). I needed some new clothes for work, so went and had a look. I kid you not, I didn't get one item of clothing! I did one tour of the store (not a city store, but large town), nothing jumped out at me, so did a slower trawl and picked up a few things to try on. They all looked dull and shapeless - left disappointed and unable to spend any money!

Greenfinch Mon 26-Sept-16 22:45:48

I hadn't read the rest of this thread and thought you were referring to me Deedaa ?? !

Galen Mon 26-Sept-16 23:23:05

I get my undies from them, and formal jackets and skirts. These are for work and cba to pay for designer clothes for such!

Galen Mon 26-Sept-16 23:27:55

Just looked at THAT BLOUSE!
It must classify as the most horrible item of clothing I've ever looked at.

Galen Mon 26-Sept-16 23:30:35

Sorry! Pedant alert
The 'most horrible object at which I've ever looked!

Shanma Tue 27-Sept-16 00:14:47

I have never liked M and S clothes. I went through a phase of going in and having a good scout around and always thought yeuk. Don't mind a treat from the food halls now and then though wink

Deedaa Tue 27-Sept-16 22:07:19

I would say "Of course you're not a pink horror" Greenfinch but now I've dug myself into an "Or any other colour horror, or any sort of horror at all" hole haven't I? grin

Greenfinch Tue 27-Sept-16 22:14:12

I like it!???
See you tomorrow.
