It was good to read, fashion essentials over 60.
The women were inspiring, are there any blogs for these women or women like them.
Also I wish there was a magazine that I could buy that is not all about young models.

Junie have you looked at 'Yours' magazine?

It is aimed at 50 + age group. With fashion tips and articles of interest to our generation.

Hi
Yes I have seen yours magazine.

Thanks smile

How do fashion essentials for the over 60s vary from fashion essentials for the under 60s?

NotTooOld Mon 26-Sept-16 21:56:31

I was wondering that, MOnica! I do have one fashion essential that did not apply when I was younger, though - comfortable shoes!

rosesarered Mon 26-Sept-16 21:58:37

And an array of scarves for neck covering.grin

Badenkate Tue 27-Sept-16 08:22:11

Considering I was never bothered about 'fashion essentials' when I was under 60, it seems a bit late to worry now I'm over 60 confused

PRINTMISS Tue 27-Sept-16 08:28:27

Likewise Badenkate. When I was young 'nice' clothes were kept for
'best', and these had to last, fashion or not. Old habits die hard, and most of what I bought (don't buy much these days) was bought with that in mind, however, I became good a 'putting things together' which helps when fashions change.

Where is the "fashion essentials over 60"?

I am not quite there yet, but I am beginning to change what I buy.[I dont buy much]

Tops for me need to be thicker and longer.
Trousers more well fitting.

I cant get away as much with looking more scruffy anymore. It now ends up with me looking scruffy generally.

annodomini Tue 27-Sept-16 10:13:27

Does 'over 60' stretch as far as 'over75'? Or am I exempted from the necessity to conform to some ideal?

www.gransnet.com/life-and-style/style-and-beauty/over-60s-fashion-buying-the-basics-essentials-capsule-wardrobe
Is what this is about.
I read the first one and thought 'that's me out then' I like a bargain and something I don't have to worry about, so Primark and supermarkets are great places for fashion in my view. Labels may be great and a well cut jacket useful occasionally but they don't stand up to a toddler's snotty nose very well.
Maybe I'm just too old for this- Fashion essentials for over 70's?
Buy bargains
Wear what you like, life is too short to worry about other people

At 79 I don't want to be fashionable, just warm and comfortable. But each to his own.
P.S I love Yours magazine.

As DDiL pointed out, all three (female) generations in our family (73, 46, 9) dress in a similar style; leggings and ethnic tops. We even have photos to prove it.

ninathenana Tue 27-Sept-16 15:58:41

I've just checked out the link.
Wrap dresses, slim trousers, fine if your a size 12-14. Nothing there I would could wear.

M0nica Tue 27-Sept-16 16:21:32

...and not even then. I am a size 10/12 and avoid anything that ties at the waist; wrap dresses, figure hugging clothes, coats with belts because the answer to the question 'Does my bum look big in this?' is a resounding 'Yes'.

Slim trousers? Yes, I am blessed with long legs, but anything over them has to skim over the waist/hip junction.

thatbags Tue 27-Sept-16 17:11:18

I've never actually believed that there is any such thing as a fashion essential for anyone of any age. There are essential items of clothing the looks of which depend on one's individual style. And there are knickers, shoes, etc. Whatever happens to be fashionable at any one time is never "essential".

I tend to agree with you thatbags. Whenever I see these lists of 'essentials' for your wardrobe, I usually note with great delight that I own none of them.

obieone Tue 27-Sept-16 18:55:43

Thanks trisher.

Choose quality - tick

Start from the inside out - just about doing

Invest in a wrap dress - tried and failed overthe years. I end up showing too much, um legs when I sit down. Not appropriate very often!
Unless someone knows how to wear them differently hmm

Slim trousers - do that

Get your colours done - tried and failed, though I didnt consult someone, just bought a book. My colours seem to be mustard and lime green, or some other sort of hideousness.

black dress - done. And boring??

colourful statement pices. Ha! I have a nice red stlyish? jumper for instance in my wardrobe, which seems to stare at me. I try to wear it sometimes, but feel I rather stand out? I always battle with colour.

honest person - ha again! My DH but I dont trust his clothes sense very much. And he is the only one that lives here permanently that I can ask.

Deedaa Tue 27-Sept-16 22:02:27

I can't take having your colours done seriously. It just reminds me of Bridget Jones and her mother grin

NotTooOld Tue 27-Sept-16 22:20:06

Deedaa smile It does, doesn't it? Like obieone I borrowed a book and did my own - it's dead easy. I'm winter apparently, so pink, cherry red, bluey-blue, a sagey green, well I already knew all that.I just tell myself to avoid orange and I'll be ok. I'm always stuck if I'm going somewhere where jeggings, a top and ankle boots are not appropriate. I'd buy a winter dress but as I hate tights what would I wear with it? Leggings and ankle boots? My feet would be cold. Socks? What do others wear with dresses in winter? Help, please.

etheltbags1 Tue 27-Sept-16 22:34:36

I too hate tights and have only worn trousers in the winter but I would like to wear a skirt sometimes but unless I wear it on top of leggings I would have to wear legs as I just cant bear the scratchy rubbing feeling of tights. I would only wear 60 denier black ones anyway, I wouldn't be seen dead in clear tights . YOu used to be able to get footless tights similar too leggings but thinner but I cant find any now. I shall just have to wear knee socks and look a bit hippy.

Tegan Tue 27-Sept-16 22:35:13

Can anyone wear those recommended shoes??

Nanabelle Tue 27-Sept-16 22:38:05

I don't think these clothes would stand up to little grandchildren either! I love wrap dresses, but with a swollen arthritic knee, I can never find any that are long enough. Most dresses finish on the knee or higher. And as for those gold pointed shoes - well my bunions would not be a happy bunny.
Ah well, never mind!

M0nica Tue 27-Sept-16 22:56:23

I've just looked at the fashion recommendations and, slim trousers apart, there wasn't a single item I would ever want to wear. My first impression was that almost all the clothes were black. Just because I am over 60 it doesn't mean I want to look like an old crone in a continental film noir. Anyway black is a disastrous colour on me and always has been. It makes me look as if I am attending my own funeral.

mumofmadboys Tue 27-Sept-16 23:09:46

I think fashionable could be replaced by common i E occurring frequently
