Slugs instead of eyebrows

What is it with this fashion for painting fat brown slugs over the eyes? Does anyone think it looks beautiful?

Deedaa Sun 19-Feb-17 20:24:08

There was a report a couple of nights ago about two girls who attacked a third with a wheel brace. One of them had obviously had her hair scraped back for so long that her hair line had receded almost to the middle of her head and she had two massive black slugs.

Joelsnan Me too grin Also shops which open up and make a living from plucking eyebrows -the mind boggles . I also used to draw the `spiders legs ` under my eyes and add a few sparkles to cheekbones when going out to a Disco . Happy days , are you 65 by any chance !

Did anyone one watch `First dates restaurant` last night ? there was a beautiful girl having a date who had the most enormous black drawn on eyebrows , I could not take my eyes off them . Apart from the eyebrows she was stunning , I just don`t get it !

The eyelashes drawn under the eyes were great if you got them right Joelsnan I used to stick green spots round my eyes as well (It looked much better than it sounds! They matched my Paco Rabanne earrings.)

I was stunned into silence by a checkout girl who had very elaborate and expertly applied make up (Including slugs) but it stopped at her chin so her face was balanced on a pure white neck. I couldn't see how she could have looked in a mirror and thought it was all right.

I think there must be some mysogynist somewhere drip feeding these trends to the gullible females. I too think the slugs look horrendous along with the weird pout. I do admit to drawing long eye lashes under my eyes in the 60s but I don't think they were quite as bad as the slugs...maybe they were and just as today I personally was oblivious to it.
I am quite bemused by the new professions (with qualifications) that have arisen for painting nails and plucking eyebrows confused

I've just treated myself to one of these from Charlotte Tilbury
Cheaper than Revitabrow and the effect is very natural. There are different shades for different colourings.

Nanna58 never stop with the brow and eyelash stuff or you'll be back to square one! I used it on my eyebrows and the results were spectacular but the price tag is eye-watering and the new hairs fell out immediately when I stopped using it.

I'm all for people enjoying the freedom to look as they wish - I just wondered what people thought about it. I find it impossible to take my eyes off them as they look so unnatural.

I wonder why that is - I can cope very happily with hair of all colours and piercing etc. - maybe it is because it is the eyes - the mirror of the soul.

shirleyhick Sun 12-Feb-17 21:35:55

I really dislike them

Rapunzel100 Sun 12-Feb-17 20:36:20

My guess is that there are going to be many young women, a few years hence, who are looking back, not in anger, but in anguish! This look flatters no one.

Asked male relatives what they thought of slug eyebrows, not one found them attractive. I think common is the polite description.

Shazmo24 Sun 12-Feb-17 19:16:56

Last year I started to have my eyebrows (& upper lip threaded)..its kinder to sensitive skin - although the first time it's a bit painful but no more than waxing. ..so I have tidy eyebrows and no moustache

Well said Dee -

Another here who hates the dark slug look.

Nanna58 Sun 12-Feb-17 16:27:37

My eyebrows were thinning until I found a product called Revitabrow which has transformed them. Also use Revitalash, fantastic! Not cheap but ask for it for Xmas , birthdays etc and it lasts about a year.

Well as someone who wore some incredibly outrageous clothes and make up in my youth I don't judge, they'll grow out of it.

Marydoll Sun 12-Feb-17 15:43:38

My eyebrows and eyelashes are still fair after all these years. If I don't use eyebrow pencil or mascara, I look as if I have no eyelashes or eyebrows at all. For the first time, at 60, my hairdresser persuaded me to dye my eyebrows. The staff in the salon were all dying their brows and had some dye left.
I had a go and it totally transformed my face. I wish I had done it years ago. The best bit, I can now see what I am plucking. However, I hate the slug look.

Sheilasue Sun 12-Feb-17 15:39:33

It reminds me of the film stars in the 50's Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn used to have. Always very thick eyebrows.

Peaseblossom Sun 12-Feb-17 15:14:14

Phoenix Why do you need to remove your glasses to pluck your eyebrows?! I pluck mine whilst wearing my glasses. I just pluck a few stray hairs below them (far less than there used to be) and then go over them with a dark brown eyeshadow using an angled eyeshadow brush. They come out very well. I must say I hate the big heavy tattooed eyebrows, they look hideous. They're called HD (high definition) eyebrows. I also hate shaved off eyebrows with a hard pencil line, which looks totally unnatural. I worked with a young guy of 18 and he agreed with me that the heavy eyebrows and false lashes look was not attractive at all and we don't understand why girls do that to themselves, because if anything it puts boys off. They prefer something more natural.

lizzypopbottle Sun 12-Feb-17 13:05:52

Where oh where is the long awaited edit facility?
One can carry them off.

Also, the less pretty one has fairish hair so big, dark eyebrows are just wrong!

lizzypopbottle Sun 12-Feb-17 13:02:57

There are two young girls who have coffee together after school in our local Sainsburys cafe every Friday (as I do). One is very pretty with high cheekbones and dark hair. The other isn't as striking and has long, crimped curtain hair (as my mother used to say). Both have the huge, dark, caterpillar eyebrows. One came carry them off. The other one cannot. Where is her mirror and her mother (I know she'll probably take no advice from her mother!)? (Not to mention common sense and self respect!)

Maggieanne Sun 12-Feb-17 12:27:29

The new fashion for pale lips is not a good look, especially if, as one make-up girl I saw, just blends the lip colour into the same shade as her skin! Aaarrgh, no mouth.

Diddy1 Sun 12-Feb-17 11:23:02

mrsmopp, I agree with you, these brown slugs make all girls look the same, together with the long straight hair, why dont they dare to be different, my Granddaughter is exactly the same, they dont need to paint their eyebrows at their age, they are lucky!
