For over thirty years I have had bad splits/cracks throughout the full length of my fingernails (I am nearly 78 now). I have tried every remedy under the sun, and must have spent over £500 on expensive OTC remedies for poor fingernails. On several fingers I have a crack/split which starts at the cuticle and the whole of those nails grow as though they are TWO nails - the split when it reaches the top end of the nail is impossible to "seal" and I have to continuously keep filing them smooth - which only lasts half a day at best.
I have ALWAYS looked after my hands and nails, and when I was a young girl/woman (17 to 48-ish) I had hands and nails I was proud of ... but now, I am ashamed of my hands, and this is such a shame as I have some beautiful rings, but I hardly ever wear them now, because they draw attention to my nails, and I hate the way they look. I have seen my Doctor about this - no remedy - and since I always wear rubber gloves if I am "in water" etc I cannot understand it. I have been taking Biotin (for hair, skin & nails) from Holland and Barrett, for years ... no improvement. Also have used various Vitamin supplements - still no improvement. I am really, really fed-up about this. Six years ago I decided to have Acrylics and at last my nails looked wonderful - but (a) it is expensive to keep up, and (b) when I decided to discontinue this, my nails were damaged beyond belief. Oh dear - sorry for the long rant, but I am very sad about this and cannot think what else to do. Any ideas?
