I've been a slave to Clinique forever but I'm finding it a bit dry for my skin the past few months and perhaps I need to swap to something for more mature skin. Are there any moisturisers you'd recommend?
None but I do take collagen.
I'm allergic to all but "Aqueous Cream BP" which is entirely mineral in content. It is a wonderful moisturiser and it costs about £5 for an enormous tub!
I also use it instead of soap, for the same reasons... My skin is pretty good.
PS my skin is hideously dry, so the cream helps everywhere...
You need to up,your game on skincare as you get older ..
Retinal and hyaluronic acid -and matryxil are the key ingredients.
No 7 serum is good. La Roche posay redermic for retinol
Eucerin for hyaluronic
All French skincare lines are very good.
Plus there is anew brand called the Ordinary that is cheap and amazing targeted skincare and Niod if you can afford it. ( neck cream is very good )!
I'm a Nivea Soft addict too. Apparently, Joan Collins uses it, and she's hanging together pretty well. I guess with her money she could afford any expensive cream she wanted, but still uses Nivea which must say something.
Mind you - you can't believe everything you read on the 'net!
For years I've been using Olay combined moisturiser+serum. It is reasonably priced and has kept my very dry skin in excellent condition. This saves a bit of time too as it cuts out the need for applying serum and then moisturiser.
Nivea Naturals- I use the day and night creams. They suit my skin which is sensitive and very dry and they smell nice too.
I think the ridiculously expensive creams are a rip-off and the "wonder" ingredients do more harm than good in the long run.
I often get complimented on my skin so I must be doing something right!
L'Oréal Golden Age - used to use Clarins (still a big fan, but too expensive), then Boots No7 Advanced (pricey now), but L'Oréal is really good and Superdrug often have it on offer so I can buy Day and Night at reduced price. Win win
Agree with blueberry1. Nivea day & night cream. Expensive ones are a rip off. Been told this by (female) GP!
Boots No 7 for mature skin- the whole range. It is always on 3 for 2 & often has offers as well. I've been using it for years.
It is great & my skin looks very good for my age even if I do say it myself- well someone has to!
From choice Clarins Restore and Protect or whatever its called but it's extortionate
Failing that, No 7 similar name
In practice I seem to be working my way through a whole load of freebies/gifts.
Suspect it doesnt actually make much difference as long as you use something and it doesnt react badly with your skin ! And I do have very good skin (for my age)I think it's mostly genetic and drinking lots of water ,not smoking helps. I can always tell when I've been overindulging in alcohol too
The Aldi Lacura serum seems to perform as well as hideously expensive makes too so will buy their moisturiser when I've worked through my collection(trying to declutter and cant waste anything)
And a thread on mumsnet praises Lanacane cream as a primer ...about to try that one
DH used to work in commercial TV and one day heard a well known actress with lovely skin who was advertising some expensive product being asked if she actually used it .'B******s'darling she replied .Think she cited Nivea or Ponds
Nivea for nightcream....wonderful.
L'Oreal in the red and white packaging ( with retinol) for day cream.Anything else seems too greasy for day cream.
I always use Simple Age Regeneration. Been using it for years and it's quite cheap. Cannot justify to myself spending a lot of money on cosmetics.
i use m&s royal jelly and pure honey. they do facial moisturiser for day and for night. they also do body moisturiser and hand/nail cream plus a lovely foot cream.
they withdrew their lovely eye cream a while ago but a friend recommended snake venom eye cream by balance which is lovely (bought from a "bargain" store or fro amazon).
I took a risk and bought the new fragrance free neutrogena moisturiser cream gel and so far no probs with my difficult allergic skin but also found La Roche pose tolerating very good if expensive (await offers in Boots or buy in France) .ps thanks whoever about the Jolene creme tip for occasional highlights in long hair tho I will go sparingly with that. One of my local friends on here will see the result- V?
Well for a long time I used Johnsons baby lotion but now I use Nivea lotion. Now 67 and am often complimented on my skin. Never felt the need to buy all the expensive stuff advertisers constantly suggest we need in order to have youthful looking skin!
Nivea Soft - goes on smoothly, mild , pleasant perfume and inexpensive. Always think the Clarins etc of this world are rather a rip-off - but that is just my opinion.
As a tangent to this issue - Nivea has worked for me for many years but now, at 74 I have rather pronounced dark circles under my eyes - any tips please?
I've started using Neal's Yard Frankincense serum and cream which is great (and I like the smell!) Tried Pond's which was horrid (not at all how I remember my mum's, have they changed the formula?) and various big brands like L'Oreal which was fine but the NY products are the best I've used.
Boots No 7 +serum. Promises a lot but difficult to know if it really improves things. Have just started using their night cream but took close up photos of my wrinkles before I started so I'll have something to compare.
I've used Avon Anew for years and have been complimented on my skin but they and Boots are now reverting back to animal testing to appease the Chinese. I'm very disappointed at their greed. I'm going to try Tropic skincare which is vegan so definitely no animals treated cruelly
I am with you, Thingmajig, as Nivea Soft seems to be the perfect all over cream for me - not too scented, just a fresh aroma. Have tried lots of others but this goes on without greasiness, and by the time I have cleaned my teeth it has absorbed enough for foundation to be applied. I wouldn't be without it - the large tubs are frequently on offer, sometimes half price, so it becomes a staggeringly good bargain. I buy smaller tubes for holidays and travelling, and would be distraught if Nivea stopped making it.
I have sensitive skin, very sensitive around my eyes. After trying lots of things (including aqueous cream on prescription) I found a French range called Avene, which is now available in Boots. Their Hydrance Riche Hydrating cream is superb and I've used it for years now.
Lostmyglassesxx I hear ya!
I use www.amazon.co.uk/Hadalabo-Institute-Gokujun-hyaluronic-solution/dp/B013HHJV0C/ref=sr_1_10_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1489241149&sr=8-10&keywords=hada+labothis&tag=gransnetforum-21 for my Hyuluronic, it's high grade and cheap as chips.
I use Cerave pm lotion as a moisturizer, it's cheap and is full of Niacinamide and Ceramides plus other skin friendly ingredients. It's also in a pump acion bottle so doesn't degrade or become contaminated.
Then apply suncream, always, everyday. I use Biore watery essense, you won't know your wearing it, it's not like western suncreams at all.
I also use Rosehip oil at night, plus retinol, vitamin c, glycolic acid
Avene has some great products AliBeee, I've used them in the past.
